1 Initiative MY PIECE FOR PEACE Help us change the picture of the world The world we live in is only one for all of us. Therefore, we all have the right and responsibility to co- create the picture of the world we live in and will continue to live in the future. In Europe and worldwide, we are witnessing many stories of children that, due to war and other political conflicts, do not have the freedom to enjoy a safe and carefree childhood, to experience a healthy personal development and well- being, enjoy a peaceful life with their family, to have freedom of learning. Recently, we can observe children being victims of war conflicts in the Middle East and Africa, fleeing their countries as refugees together with their families following their wish for a free and better future, children being victims of terrorist attacks, children facing poor living conditions in different countries both worldwide, as well as within the European Union. Wishing to contribute our piece toward creating a different picture of the world, we are starting the My piece for peace initiative in Slovenia. The primary intent of this initiative is to create a public and widespread call to country leaders worldwide in order for them to combine their power and aid in ensuring a safe and free future for the children who are walking the path to a better tomorrow as refugees, for the children who have lost their homes, their families, their friends, their opportunity for play and education and for us all. With this initiative, we wish to contribute to the strengthening of solidarity, tolerance, understanding, and acceptance of others with whom we share the world. The invitation for cooperation is intended for the students of primary schools in the European Union and in other countries around the world.»my piece for peace«we invited Maks Lenart Černelč, a fifth grader from the primary school Majda Vrhovnik in Ljubljana to cooperate in our start- up international initiative, as well as in the design of the appeal to the world leaders. Maks says that he is a research artist. He was happy to cooperate and began our appeal with a painting titled Distress hope, Slovenia, fall 2015 with which he wanted to address the issue of children losing their homes, families, opportunity for education, careless play, the issue of children who have to move to save their lives. We wanted to show their distress, sorrow, and pain. He drew the children and their dreams of freedom, family, education and playtime combined with demolished cities. Ongoing attacks and numerous refugees. The wire represents terror and what is happening in the world is frightening him. The sun is happy; however it looks like a little devil. Maks used bright colors, because he says that life is diverse, good and bad. Maks's picture is available on the website of the initiative:

2 How can we help in changing the picture of the world? Our initiative is quite simple. We are inviting students from primary schools to help us change Maks s picture, which represents the current picture of the world and thus add their piece for world peace. In such a way, we will create an appeal to the world leaders in a creative way via pictures, photos, music, movement or other kinds of artistic expression, asking them to try their best and invest all their knowledge and power to stop attacks, war, and enable all people to live in peace, freedom and safety. As says Maks: We have one world, and it is for everyone. Who can cooperate in the initiative? Student of primary schools in the European Union can cooperate in the initiative. All materials should be created by the students, teachers can contribute as mentors. We advise you to include several classrooms and students. At the end of the competition please send us no more than three products, which depict a better picture of the world, as seen by your students. How to cooperate in the initiative»my piece for peace«your steps 1. step: Based on Maks s picture Distress hope, Slovenia, fall 2015 (visible on prepare your idea of how to change this picture of the world. Your idea can be presented in the following format: - Paintings or pictures using any technique (A3 format), - Comic book stories, using any technique, no more than 1 page in length (A3 format), - Photos or photo collage, in digital format (jpg). Photos should not be digitally manipulated. In case you will have textual messages in your product, they have to be in English language. The inspiration for changing the picture of the world can come from various facts of life, such as freedom, home, family, friends, playtime, sports, art. 2. step: Record a short presentation video The video should contain: - Your message to the world leaders regarding the change of the current picture of the world and - The slogan of the initiative, namely»my piece for peace«.

3 Your message can be presented in the native language of your students. In this case, you have to add a translation of the message to English language when submitting the video. The video can be recorded with a mobile phone. Video length: up to 60 seconds. You can add sound materials, such as music, but please make sure you respect copyrights. Video format: AVI, QuickTime (mov), MPEG, Flash. 3. step: Best practices of developing interculturalism, solidarity, and tolerance in your school Send us a short presentation of one best practice (activity or a set of activities), which is performed at your school in order to strengthen solidarity, tolerance, interculturalism, understanding and openness toward other people. Please use the template attached to the invitation, the template is also available on our website Our steps 1. step: Creating a message for the world leaders Online postcards We will create e- postcards from the materials created and submitted by the students of primary schools in EU. The shortlisted postcards will be sent to the world leaders. Furthermore, we will prepare a special e- book of postcards. The online postcards will be available for everybody on the initiative s website ( Short video messages Based on the shortlisted videos, a common video message will be created and sent to the world leaders. 2. step: New picture of the world Maks will create a new different picture of the world based on the products provided by the students of primary schools in the EU. The new picture of the world and other products will be presented at the final event in the center of Ljubljana (most likely in May of 2016). In this way, we will illustrate the central message of our initiative that a small contribution of each and every one can contribute to world peace.

4 Initiative dates The initiative will begin on February 1 st and until March 31 st of You can submit your products in e- format via the initiative website All products have to be submitted by of March 31 st of Every school participating in the initiative can send a maximum of three products. All products that will be submitted by the determined deadline will be included in the selection process to determine which products will be included in the message sent to the world leaders. The products that will not have all attachments or that will be evaluated as inappropriate, due to inappropriate content related to other nations or ethnic groups or will contain discriminatory, racial, hate or illegal messages, will not be included in the selection process. The following attachments are required when submitting the products: - Information on the work, authors, school, - Declaration on copyright and permission of data publication. Shortlist selection process The products will be reviewed by the editorial board from April 1 st to April 15 th of The criteria for the evaluation of the submitted products will be as follows: content, message, originality, execution, quality. We will prepare short messages regarding the initiative performance that will be posted on the initiative website All created products will be available on the initiative website The initiative and its messages will be presented in the media.
