(3) Those who have completed a program at a foreign university through correspondence courses while residing in Japan and have been conferred a degree equivalent to the master s degree or a professional degree (or expect to receive it by March 2016) (4) Those who have completed a program at a foreign educational institution, which is positioned in the educational system of that country as being a graduate school and is specifically stipulated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan, and have been conferred a degree equivalent to the master s degree or a professional degree (or who expect to complete it by March 2016). (5) Those who graduated from United Nations University established on United Nations General Assembly Resolution in December 12, 1972 provided that Act on Special Measures Incidental to Enforcement of the "Agreement between the United Nations and Japan regarding the Headquarters of the United Nations University" No.72 of 1949 (Ordinance No.1, Item 2) and was given a suitable master s degree (or expect to 1
3 graduate by March 2016). (6) Those who graduated from foreign university or United Nations University, pass a suitable examination and screening provided that Standards for the Establishment of Universities No.28 of 1947 (Ordinance No.16, Item 2) and are recognized that they have academic ability Equal to or greater than master s degree (or expect to graduate by March 2016). (7) Those who have been stipulated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (for details, see Ministerial Announcement No. 118 of 1989). (8) Those who have undergone a special admissions screening and are recognized by the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine as having achieved an academic level equivalent to those who have a master s or professional degree, and are 24 years of age or older by March (EXPLANATORY REMARKS) A master s or professional degree mentioned in items (1), (2), (3), (4), and (8) above refers to a degree conferred from a graduate school in Japan. Those who satisfy the conditions for item (8) above must pass the preliminary qualification screening for application. a. Application period for preliminary screening. Candidates who stay in Japan (whose stay is over 90 days) must submit your copy of certificate of alien registration or resident s card (both front and back) at the application. Note: In addition to the above application-related documents items, please submit a photocopy of a score sheet from the external test of English language (TOEFL, TOEIC, etc.) as a reference if the applicant has such a score (the score does not affect the admission). 7 7. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS & PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION (1) The identification numbers of the successful applicants will be posted at the entrance lobby of Bldg. No. 1 of the School of Medicine at 10:00 on February 12 (Fri), 2016, and also published on the website. For the admission examination results, please check the Notification that is mailed later. We cannot answer the examination result on the phone or via . (2) In this research course, the handling of the pass or fail telegraph etc. to the examinee is not done. Please note that the person who accepts the pass or fail telegraph etc. around the examination room is not related to this learning at all enough. (3) Admission documents will be mailed to successful applicants around early March (4) Fees for admission are as follows: 1 Admission Fees: 282,000 (expected amount) 2 First Semester Tuition: 267,900 (Annual Tuition: 535,800) (expected amount) Explanatory Remarks 1. The amounts mentioned above may change if fees are revised at school entry or during the period of the applicant s enrollment, in which case the new amount is effective at the time of change. 2. (6) The date of registration for admission is April 1, OTHER INFORMATION (1) For those students who already have full time jobs, and may take longer than the standard number of years to complete their studies, our graduate school reviews and may provide an opportunity to plan a course schedule to fit such special circumstances. This system is termed the Long-term Program for Students and students in this program pay the same total amount of tuition for the entire program as regular students. It appears also on the website. 9 DESCRIPTION OF GRADUATE SCHOOL PROGRAM 1. OBJECTIVE AND MISSION The Doctoral Program of the Disability Sciences Integrated Master s and Doctoral Program aims to train human resources to acquire abilities enabling them to perform independent research activities or to be engaged in medical rehabilitation work, and to contribute to the international society. The Doctoral Program of the Health Sciences Integrated Master s and Doctoral Program aims to train human resources to be professionals in health and nursing sciences, and perform research activities independently as researchers/educators or play an active part in research at a clinical site, enterprise, etc. as a leader in the front lines. 2. COURSE OF STUDY AND DEGREE To complete a course of study in the Integrated Master s and Doctoral Program (Doctoral Program), Disability Sciences at our graduate school, students must be enrolled for at least three years and attain 16 or more credits, 8 credits or more from core and 8 credits from elective subjects. Also, students will receive the necessary research guidance so that they may complete a doctoral dissertation and successfully pass the review and final examination and earn a degree. However, students who have acquired the necessary credits and been highly evaluated for their achievements by the Graduate Research Review Committee may complete the course in one or more years (for those who have completed the master s program in less than two years of attendance at the graduate school, a period of three years in total is required). To complete a course of study in the Doctoral Program, Health Sciences at our graduate school, students must be enrolled for at least three years and attain 16 or more credits, 8 credits or more from common and 8 credits from specialized subjects. ADMISSION FEE/TUITION EXEMPTIONS (1) Exemption of Admission Fee Students recognized as being in severe financial difficulties are eligible to apply for exemption from payment of the admission fee (complete exemption or 50% exemption). (2) Exemption of Tuition Students recognized as being in severe financial difficulties are eligible to apply for tuition exemption (complete, 50%, or 1/3 exemption) if they have an excellent academic record. 5. SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Japan Student Services Organization offers students loans of up to 122,000 or 80,000 per month which you can choose (for first-level students as of 2015). 6. STUDENT ACCIDENT AND DISASTER INSURANCE This insurance covers damage or injury resulting from experiments, clinical research, university activities or extracurricular activities. The insurance premium is 4,150 for a period of three years (as of 2015). 9
