1 Autism As s oci ati on of W es tern Aus trali a ( I nc.) Autism Ass oci ati on of W es tern Aus trali a ( I nc.) Autism Association of Western Australia Shared Service
2 The Autism Association s Shared service was launched in It is now being accessed by a growing number of individuals and families. It empowers individuals and families to manage what they do with their funding by providing more choice, flexibility and control over your funding. What is a Shared Service? Shared is the agreed sharing of service management responsibilities between you and the Autism Association. It gives you the option to recruit and supervise your own support staff, while the payroll and management of your funds is the responsibility of the Autism Association on your behalf. To help you decide if this is the right service for you we have answered some of the most common questions below. What are the advantages? Greater flexibility and control over the services you want. You can determine the level of responsibilities you undertake and control you have over the resources and information. You choose, employ and supervise your own staff with support from the Autism Association. You can deal with your own support staff directly without needing to go through a third party. Greater involvement in the planning and decision making process where you can make decisions regarding the pay levels, conditions and hours of work for your support staff. Services are personalised to how you want and focus on the individual s and family s needs. What are the options? 1. Self We manage your funding and will release a lump sum to you each month or as negotiated and acquit the funds to DSC. You employ and pay your own support staff and provide evidence of invoices. A separate bank account is required. 2. Shared We manage your funding and use the funds to pay all expenses and invoices, including staff wages, insurances and other expenses. You employ and supervise your own support staff with support from us. 3. Shared with Coordination We manage your funding, recruit, supervise and pay your support staff including your staff wages and other expenses. We provide you with support to manage your staff and access further resources that you may require. What are the costs and fees involved? Annual Fee The Shared Annual Fee is between 3% to 10% of your funding, depending on the option you choose and the amount of funding that you have. Workers Compensation and Public Liability Insurance It is mandatory to pay Workers Compensation and Public Liability for your employees and the amount will depend on the wages you pay over a one year period. The rest of the funds will be spent according to your family s needs. You may choose to use some of your funding for staff transport, training, advertising, respite services etc. 2 3
3 Quick comparison table for each option Self Employ your staff Supervise your staff Pay staff Shared What support and assistance do I get? Shared with Coordination Depending on the arrangement you have with us, we can assist you with the following: Recruitment Providing you with sample documents Planning and budgeting Coordinating your support assisting with recruitment, rostering, supervising Hold and administer your funding Pay invoices as agreed with you Obtain your Australia Taxation Office (ATO) Withholding Payee Number for a person with a disability, parent or their legal representative Calculate payroll Make other payments Hold and manage funding Pay employees by bank transfer Provide employees with a pay slip for each pay period Calculate PAYG tax and pay it to the ATO Provide quarterly tax statements to the ATO Report to funder Cost 3 5% 7 10% Minimum of 10 services at $487 At the end of financial year provide employees with a pay and allowances summary (group certificate) and lodge a PAYG withholding annual report with the ATO Reimburse you or your support workers for other expenses as agreed with you Arrange and pay workers compensation and public liability insurance Calculate and pay superannuation (If applicable) Provide you a budget report for each month so you know how much funds you have spent, and have left Send Annual Acquittal reports to Disability Services Commission. 4 What can I use the funding for? Commonly, funds are used for individuals to receive support to connect to the wider community, develop new skills and expand their social networks, if they choose. Funds are generally assigned to services such as social support, family support, holiday support and respite breaks. How do I access the Shared Service?
