It is anticipated that many of the extra pupils will be accommodated in modular buildings, to meet short/medium term and longer term requirements. The proposed Southern Modular Building Solutions Framework will be an OJEU compliant procurement vehicle operating across southern England that will enable all education authorities, colleges, universities, health authorities, local government / public sector organisations ready access to procuring modular buildings. The lots: The framework will comprise 3 lots: Lot 1 Modular Buildings: Short/Medium Term: Standard Class Rooms; Lot 2 Modular Buildings: Short/Medium Term: Bespoke Buildings; Lot 3 Permanant Buildings of Modular Construction; For further information on the lots please see Annex B. 3 3/6 Lot 1 Modular Buildings: Short to Medium Term: Standard Classrooms. Single and double classroom units, with and without toilets and lobbies purchased and hired. It is the intention that the supplier will offer their own standard product which complies with current education standards and requirements. Typically buildings in this category would be deployed at schools for short / medium term which may be for a term of a few months up to several years. Buildings will be constructed off site, delivered to and erected on site, and they should be demountable to allow redeployment / ease of removal. Typically units in this sector would be deployed in the following circumstances: Emergency work e.g. to provide temporary accommodation after a flood. To provide decanting accommodation whilst major works take place. Provision of accommodation for schools to deal with short and longer term population increases often as an interim measure pending extension of a school. The Modular buildings would then be removed on completion of the other works. The service shall include for site preparation works including, where required, survey and planning work. The Contractor will be expected to have a Building Regulations Type approval for their units and will obtain Building Regulations approval for the project, and the contractor will undertake all works necessary to construct deploy and finish the building to allow occupation, including: Transport, crainage and track-ways to allow delivery of the unit, foundations appropriate to the building, term required and role, connections to services, any necessary ramps and skirtings, and associated external works such as paths, fences and gates, hard and soft landscaping. Options to include: 1. Outright purchase and installation. 2. Hire. 3. Hire with subsequent purchase of the unit. 4. Bespoke buildings, required to provided a range of accommodation types, with the building layout being designed to meet the relevant brief and any related statutory requirements or recognised good practice standards. Buildings will be constructed off site, delivered to and erected on site, and they should be demountable to allow redeployment / ease of removal. 3/6

Provision of accommodation in the medium term (5-10 years) on a temporary site, whilst a site for a permanent building is acquired and the building is constructed. Typical buildings in this Lot might be: Science Laboratories for schools. Nursery Schools which may include kitchens, serveries, rest rooms, areas which can be divided by acoustic screens. Whole schools including teaching accommodation, a hall, servery, kitchen, administration, staff rooms and offices. Community Centres offering a range of accommodation. Studios EG Dance studio's for schools. Offices. Temporary residential accommodation. Waiting rooms. The service shall include for site preparation works including, where required, survey and planning work. Bespoke buildings of Modular Construction to be built as a Permanent structure with a design life of in excess of 50 years and with Design, external and internal finishes and appearance appropriate to their role and location. The finishes should be appropriate for a permanent building and typically this may be cladding, brick slips, brickwork, render, or curtain walling. The scope would be for full design and construction of the building and site from scratch or from a concept design' provided by the client. The service shall include for site preparation works including, where required, survey and planning work. The Contractor would be expected to obtain building regulations approval and would include: Transport, crainage and track-ways to allow delivery of the unit, foundations appropriate to the building, term required and role, connections to services, any necessary ramps and skirtings, and associated external works such as paths, fences and gates, hard and soft landscaping. The scope in this area is broad and this Lot might be used to provide anything from a single room or classroom thought to a whole school an accommodation block a small surgery or library.
