WHAT THEY SAID

The biggest change to public services I want to see is Ring road dual carriageway More reliable public transport Enforce all lories out of city centre by 11am Less traffic and congestion York guide books for students Sports for the disabled Change direct payments to pay living wage Care tailored to individual needs Traffic control in residential areas Grit cycle tracks in bad weather Allow residents to prioritise services I really appreciate poverty work Address city centre alcohol consumption Better 20mph signage BETTER BUS DRIVER TRAINING Buses in York are great Joined-up support for the unemployed Bus stop announcements for visually impaired Fix traffic lights "one-stop-shop" for adult social care/ elderly care Suitable Adult Social Care equipment Parking is too expensive INCLUSIVE SUPPORT Better communication with young people Festivals and activities for a diverse audience PEOPLE TRAVEL Better buses on an evening Safer roads Taxis being fined for using bus lanes Improvements to cycle tracks bigger police presence ON STREETS PLACE CYC Be more efficient Weekly grey bin collection Some parks are damaged More dogfriendly places Litter collection on an evening in city centre Better grass cutting Less reliance on doing everything online council listening to you RIVER SAFETY Cleaner swimming pools locked PARKS at night drain cleaning A better market More plastic recycling Openness Talk less about achievements and 'paint a picture' instead EXTENDED Green waste collections Payment desk in West Offices More frequent waste collection disabled access for events A park in Hop Grove Improve 'Do It Online' Less levels on telephone answering system More common sense about benefits Area-expert staff Seasonal newsletter to outlying areas of York Getting rid of A-Boards more seats in the city centre Nothing - doing a great job! More transparency Better access to information Spend money on front line services cleaner public toilets Don't change the skateboard parks Advertise where public toilets are Not online-only job applications Encourage communities to take charge Community hubs focus on main things Recreating Bishy Rd spirit Services working together Nothing - my experience of adult social care is good

I WOULD FEEL MORE ENGAGED IN MY COMMUNITY IF an area important to me Allow communities to evolve as much as they want to Inter-community competition, by ward There were more regular street parties Time! Bishyroad.net I knew how I could get involved Linked to sectors I knew my neighbours already there - Opportunities to faith/parent/ engage in a child different way I had more time Public consultations were in city centre I am not that bothered It didn t seem such an "old person" thing to do It was easier to access on mobility scooter staff >60 THINGS WERE followed up more for young people to do More information on activities Initial start up of community groups by council representative < If opportunities were made more obvious "youth culture" and drinkers were not so present I knew how to be involved I had time to volunteer better communication of events/improvements There was more to do IN HAXBY More ways for people without children to do so able to access facilities using public transport ward meetings achieved anything I knew what was expected of me My community is my street and its lovely There was somewhere to go and meet people More residents weekends I had time to volunteer

how engaged do you currently feel in your community? On a 1-10 scale 5.6 all < >60 staff

I WOULD CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING TO HELP IMPROVE Initiatives to create community interest companies Keeping locality tidy The community I live in my community Keeping my local park clean and tidy Ways for people to feed back into the community Breaking the stigma attached to community groups More joined up care services LGBT and mental health disability friendly building community spirit Access for support to people with mental health A sense of community spirit staff <25 Community integration between age groups Support and raise awareness of 'causes' important to me Don t want to commit the time > Nothing People's wellbeing Local green spaces My community Anything Information about how to get involved My kids' schools and local parks Better community spirit Already part of neighbourhood watch
