1 Tahoe Tech Group LLC Cyber Security Briefing Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce March 6, 2015 Tahoe Tech Group serves as your technology partner with a focus on providing cost effective and long term solutions. Potential threats for business owners to consider Due to recent cyber threats to local businesses, Tahoe Tech Group would like to educate our business community on protecting themselves and their customers. There are several issues to consider when it comes to being exploited: Malware and viruses Malicious software and viruses can run in the background and extort payment and financial information. A relatively new threat that has affected several Lake Tahoe businesses called, Crypto Locker is infecting computers and servers and then encrypting the data and locking it down so that all files are rendered useless to the business owner. Imagine if your company s files were suddenly held hostage, how would your business suffer? Changes in PCI compliance laws Starting in October, Payment Card Industry compliance laws are undergoing a significant change. Credit card fraud liability is going to shift away from the big banking institutions and toward the small business owner. Business owners will need to adhere to new standards in network hardware, credit card terminals and point of sale software to protect themselves from this massive liability. Physical network security Your devices are not secure out of the box. Default settings are well known and exploitable by would be hackers. Password management and protection Disgruntled or recently terminated employees can cause major problems when they have usernames and passwords related to sensitive data, banking and shopping information. When a website password is compromised, no matter how unimportant the site, hackers will then instantaneously try your credentials on more important sites like your banking and shopping websites. Fake virus and speed up my computer scams Phone calls, pop up ads and fake computer clean up scams can convince you that you have been compromised and trick you into giving hackers access to your system and information. The following pages will educate you on how to safeguard your business against these
2 threats. TechGuard Managed Anti Virus There are the do it yourself methods and then there are managed services from Tahoe Tech Group. With inbound and outbound port and application protection, your business is always protected. Scans without distractions Managed Smart Scanning reduces distractions. 3 TechGuard Cloud Backup With the Crypto Locker virus having already affected several local businesses, it s important to understand that not all backup solutions are created equal. Safe and Secure Online Backup Online backup (also known as off site or cloud backup) All hardware is prone to failure and this is why external hard drives are not a safe place to store your business critical data Routine checks to ensure the proper data is chosen for backup Routine checks to ensure the backups are completing successfully Routine checks to ensure that data retrieval will be straightforward and effective Managed TechGuard Cloud Backup from Tahoe Tech Group We all know how important it is to keep information backed up, but with time under constant pressure, few remember to do so regularly. How can this benefit you? Protect what s important Data is protected both in transit and at rest with encryption at every stage of the process. Data Centers also have ISO9001 & ISO27001 certification giving customers peace of mind that their data won t be compromised. For extra protection combine Cloud Backup with TechGuard AntiVirus to scan files before backup and restore. Automatic backup, fast restore Automate the process to ensure timely protection. Backups run silently in the background while the use of an incremental backup mechanism keeps bandwidth usage to a minimum. Should the worst happen, we can restore your data on demand ensuring the impact of any data loss is minimized. Include servers and server based files Capture unlimited bare metal server 'snapshots' and automatically run incremental backup large files such as Exchange or SQL Databases as often as every 15 minutes. Store locally, in the cloud or both and choose from multiple retention policies to meet your needs. Optimize storage Files are compressed to minimize the amount of storage used and for extra efficiency, TechGuard Cloud Backup lets you limit the data to be backed up by folder, file type and/or file size to ensure that only your business critical data is captured. Free 30 day trial Try TechGuard Cloud Backup free for 30 days to ensure it s the right service for you. Pay as you go service Data storage is billed in arrears and based on actual usage, so you don t have to worry about estimating requirements in advance of risk paying for unused storage space.
4 PCI compliance to protect your business and your customers New laws go into effect October 2015 which transfer credit card fraud liability away from big banks and toward small business owners. By October 2015, all restaurants and other merchants will be subjected to new Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EMV) standards, which reflect a shift from magnetic stripe credit cards to chip and pin cards. Considered safer and widely used across Europe and other nations, the chip based cards require insertion of the card into a terminal throughout the entire transaction. Merchants who don t meet compliance by October 2015 will assume liability for fraudulent purchases a shift that is poised to drive many to adopt the new standards and avoid the risk. Secure Credit Card Processing Review your point of sale systems with your credit card processing company In store hardware In store software Contact Tahoe Tech Group at (530) (TECH) for your free evaluation Upgrade hardware and software as necessary before October Secure your wired and wireless network Your network is your gateway to the Internet. It s also the gateway that hackers will attack to obtain you and your customers information. Keep your information flowing safely and securely Change the default configuration to a customized configuration Password protect your network with strict password standards Separate your public guest network from your private business network Make your business network invisible to the public Call (530) (TECH) for your free network security evaluation
5 TechGuard Secure Sign On for Business Managing passwords, securing lost devices with confidential data, and preventing ex employees from accessing proprietary data from their personal devices has become so complex that few companies can confidently address the problem. TechGuard Business SSO (Secure Sign On) changes the equation by simplifying your accounts and passwords (while maintaining security) and giving you the control you need. Simplify your login / password process and protect your data Develop policies and procedures for managing login credentials Control your employees access to critical data Implement a plan to block access from ex employees Call (530) (TECH) and we ll show you how we can help you End password sprawl and create a single sign on across a wide array of devices, programs and websites Simplify identity management Secure your applications and mobile devices and protect confidential data, even on your employees personal devices. Don t fall victim to fake tech support, PC speed up scams You ve seen it and heard it before: Your computer has been infected. Click here to solve your problems! Don t get scammed. Between fake virus solutions, pop up ads and scammers calling your home, you need a trusted advisor. How can you tell what s real and what s not? Know your software and how to identify a legitimate warning Do not ever give a stranger access to your computer (Microsoft does not make house calls!) Call before you click! If you re not sure what to do, a 60 second no charge phone call can be made to (530) (TECH) and we ll tell you if you re about to make a mistake. Tahoe Tech Group: Name: Carl LeBlanc
