About SHISA NYAMA Shisa Nyama is as diverse as the vast continent of Africa itself. Combining excellent grades of meat, the freshest ingredients, the friendliest service and the best dining experience possible, we offer you the best at Shisa Nyama. Shisa Nyama, a Zulu slang expression for buy and braai, has been traditionally practiced in African culture for years. These days, more and more folks are doing what Africans have traditionally done in their free time and it has evolved into a heritage symbol: grilling good old meat, aka shisa nyama. And now husband and wife entrepreneurs like you are taking things a step further. Shisa Nyama, a traditional buy-and-braai concept that started in South Africa s townships, has taken off among the South African middle class. What started off as a way for township butcheries to increase their weekend sales has grown in popularity, becoming a place where people go to relax and socialise. To the grilled offerings have been added formal bars, music performances and car washes, catering to those who want to while away the afternoon in a convivial environment. As a favourite hangout spot for up-and-coming professionals and South Africa s emerging middle class, these venues have become ideal for networking sessions where business deals are frequently discussed and brokered. From the outset, the Celes have striven to ensure that the very best service is provided, ensuring that the customer s needs are met at all times. Shisa Nyama: a time to braai still stands today as testimony to their tradition of great tasting meat, served in a friendly and courteous manner. The first restaurant was started in Midrand, Johannesburg, catering to a middle- to upper-class clientele that wants to enjoy the townships tradition in the northern suburbs. The restaurant has been such a success that the Cele s have franchised both restaurant/lounge and fast-food outlets. It is bringing the African tradition to people where they work and sometimes live, part time or full time. Perpetual focus is on quality of product and service with a smile, food without compromise and an ever-improving ambience. Shisa Nyama Midrand was founded seven years ago. It all started with the idea of a place which people could regard as a home-away-from-home, be it during working hours or time to have fun in the evening or at the weekend. Many would ask why in the suburbs, but that's the whole Idea of bringing back the vibe and creating a place where people not only enjoy good soul food but combine it with listening to soul music. Shisa Nyama uniqueness lies in offering value-for-money, top quality meat, combined with special blends of spices, ensuring tantalising flavours that appeal to all palates. The creative image, standardisation of products and adherence to cleanliness serve as the franchise s main competitive advantages. The customer base is comprised mostly of the Black community, but also has great appeal to all cultures. PROSPECTUS 02

In addition, we are determined to build a brand to compete with the key industry players who are currently dominating the fast food industry. The Shisa Nyama brand is divided between the restaurant/lounge and fast food franchises. The fast food option serves as a take away franchise and the restaurant/lounge provides a sit-down restaurant that is combined with a social event with live music and all the trimmings of an outdoor restaurant. Our Services Shisa Nyama is a term used in many South African townships to describe a buy & braai where friends come together for braaing meat. 12 FRACHISE COST Shisa Nyama s vision is to provide the best African and western cuisine at a fair price which is nutritional and well prepared, using only quality ingredients and service excellence. Franchise Association of South Africa Membership Shisa Nyama A Time to Braai A member of Franchise Association of South Africa. The need of Shisa Nyama franchise agreements are: 5 Years with the option to renew after five years; Setting up costs: Fast Food R (excl VAT) Restaurant R (excl VAT) This fee is estimated and may vary from operation to operation; Franchise Fee: - R (excluding VAT) due upon signing the franchise agreement; Monthly management fee: - 5% of Monthly turnover (Excl. VAT). Monthly marketing fee: - 3% of Monthly turnover (Excl. VAT); Working Capital suggested: - This is just an estimate. Fast Food R Restaurant R Owner operated The franchise fee is a once off payment for each franchise that is opened. It secures the rights to operate a franchise, using Shisa Nyama trademarks and business systems. This fee is excluded in the set up costs. The franchise fee includes training for 14 days. 13 SHISA NYAMA marketing Ethos SHISA NYAMA conducts marketing and advertising activities which are funded by a central marketing fund from monies collected from the advertising levy appropriated through contributions by all franchisees. We will advise on any local marketing. Appropriate mediums and advertorials in relevant consumer and trade magazines are generally used with a combination of shows and press advertising. Joint promotions and direct mail will be encouraged to convey Shisa Nyama message to a defined market. The direct selling concept is the very core to Shisa Nyama mode of operation. Each franchise operates independently, marketing and selling the services to the consumer. Training Shisa Nyama offers an intensive 15 day in-house training course for franchisees and managers followed by on-the-job training on the training site. Other training courses are also available at various times during the year and will be run on an ongoing and ad hoc basis. Franchisee profile Shisa Nyama is particularly interested in people who possess some or all of the following attributes: A people s person who is able to work with people and have a pleasant, positive and caring nature; He or she must have excellent selling skills, experience in direct selling is preferable; Communication skills: This is one characteristic that any franchisee must possess. This means they must be able to deal with people in a positive way. A good franchisee is one who enjoys spending time with people. Remember, if one treats their staff and customers with trust and respect, then they will remain loyal to them. Hence, it is must for a franchisee to treat their customers well which will ultimately add to the popularity of a business; Hard working: Running a franchise is not easy; it takes hard working to make it successful. For new franchises to be successful, a franchisee must not be afraid of hard work and happy to put in the hours required to get the job done; Positive attitude: A potential franchisee must have a positive attitude towards the Shisa Nyama business model. A franchisee must have a good attitude towards work and show that they can work alongside their employees, whether it is in the office, on the store floor or out in the field. They must even be willing to look for ways to make the brand more popular and suggest frequent changes for the betterment of the business. In another words, a franchisee must be self-motivated to take action and follow the successes of others. A self-motivated and organised person who wants to succeed and be prepared to work as part of a team; The term to be a good leader, you also must be a good follower is indeed true in franchising. Customers preferring franchised fast food restaurants are generally there because they know what to expect. A franchise system then rests upon the consistency of the products or services it offers. Deviate from this and you have taken out the foundation of this business system. This is why franchisors look for people who can lead and at the same time follow the business system in place. This is why people who can treat the operations manualof the company as the Ten Commandments handed down to Moses are generally a shoo in as a franchisee PROSPECTUS 07
14 As there is always the chance of a franchise failing. Shisa Nyama is looking for people who cannot just follow the system but can get going when the going gets tough. Of course, getting a franchise also has its risks as with other business systems. What Shisa Nyama likes are people who can handle the risk and work hard to make his franchise a success. Financially and ethically sound person who treats customers, suppliers and Shisa Nyama Support Office with bnintegrity; and Approximately 40 percent of total set-up costs available in cash. Working capital which will include 6 months personal living expenses while the Franchise outlet is being established.
