2 The Supply Chain Management Workshop is one of the collaborative activities of faculty members from IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombays and IIIT Gwalior, and is designed to guide the participants along the difficult terrain of Supply Chain Management and Logistics to support their exploration and learning of the various theories of logistics, management of the flow of goods, movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption. This workshop will help participants to obtain a good hands-on learning experience with different tools used in the area of Supply Chain Management. The workshop will explore different introductory aspects like optimal design of supply chain, good vendor selection policy, reverse logistics, risk management issues, etc, as applicable to supply chain management. The stress in this workshop will be, to enhance problem solving abilities which have useful practical applicatons, to different groups of participants, namely people from academia and those from logistics and related industries, etc. The instructors of the workshop are reputed faculty members from IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay and IIIT Gwalior, who along with able resource persons from academia and industry, will deliver the materials through class lectures, up to date course materials, and hands on tutorials. Who can attend this workshop This workshop is specifically meant for dynamic professionals from industry, academically oriented post graduate and doctoral students, business faculty members who are working in the area of logistics, supply chain management, reverse logistics and have an aptitude and interests in areas like, logistics, procurement, supplier/vendor selection, etc. People in academia and industry or anyone keen to gain in-depth knowledge as well as understand the practicality of supply chain management in our day to day affairs are strongly encouraged to apply for this exclusive and unique workshop. With an excellent blend of theory as well as practical examples and a comprehensive course curriculum, this workshop will undoubtedly be a very good learning experience for the participants. In all, around 30~40 participants will be selected from across the country and abroad, based on their vita, work experience, as well as reference letters (where applicable). The workshop built on the expertise of highly distinguished faculty members from IITs and IIIT, as well as other stalwarts from academia and industry, is an excellent opportunity for a superior learning experience. From the day of its inception, the aim of the institute has been to provide meaningful education, to conduct original research of the highest standard and to provide leadership for the growth of this country. At present IIT Kanpur has a sprawling residential campus of 1055 acres with about 2500 undergraduate and 1500 postgraduate students, 330 faculty members and more than 1500 supporting staff. The Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) department at IIT Kanpur started in It has three separate programs, which are Ph.D, M.Tech and MBA. For the Ph.D. and M.Tech programs the main thrust areas of research and teaching are in Operations Research (OR), Operations Management (OM), Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), etc. In 2000 the IME department started the MBA program, which, under the aegis of IIT Kanpur, has fast blossomed into a successful program where the emphasis is always on building the quantitative skills of the students along with their knowledge in other areas of management. IME has a very vibrant faculty, who are deeply dedicated into research and teaching. The vision of the department is to define itself as a leading management institute of the twentyfirst century so that it is able to educate the leaders of a technologically driven world for the coming decades. For that, the IME department is geared up to impart the best education needed to the students as well as to the industry in such a way that synergy is attained within the requirements of industry, government and the core beliefs of IIT Kanpur. Instructors 1 R. R. K. Sharma: Prof. R. R. K. Sharma is at present Professor in the IME Department, IIT Kanpur. After his B.Tech he started his career in industry working with TATA Motors. After few years he went on to do his FPM (Ph.D.) from IIM Ahmedabad after which he joined the IME department at IIT Kanpur where he has been there for the past 25 years. His research interests are in scheduling, warehouse layout, SCM, etc. He has taught over 22 different courses at IIT Kanpur and has the unique ability to integrate different areas of management in his research. To date he has written over 100 journal publications and two books. He has already guided 52 M.Tech and 8 Ph.D students with their respective thesis work. As a researcher Dr. R. R. K. Sharma has made some important contributions to the field of management science and management, like in the area of algorithm design for PERT networks, warehouse Page 4 of 6

5 location theory, transportation problems, etc. Dr. Sharma has won several international awards also like Archimedes Award, Life Fellow, Life Time Achievement Award, American Medal of Honor, Outstanding researcher by the AIMS (All India Management Scholars) International Society, Dr Manubhai M Shah Memorial Award Raghu N. Sengupta: Raghu N. Sengupta completed his B.E from BIT, Mesra and his FPM (Ph.D.) from IIM Calcutta with a specialization in OM and Finance. His research interests are in the areas of Sequential Analysis, Statistical & Mathematical Reliability, Financial Risk Analysis and use of Meta-heuristic techniques for optimization. His research work has been published in journals like Metrika, Sequential Analysis, Statistics, Journal of Applied Statistics, European Journal of Operational Research, Communications in Statistics, Computational Statistics & Data Analysis, etc. At IIT Kanpur he is a Professor and teaches Probability & Statistics, Financial Risks Analysis, Portfolio Management and Derivatives, Stochastic Processes and their Applications, Management Decision Analysis. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) Fellowship 2008 under which he was a senior research associate at ORFE department at Princeton University, USA. Apart from that he has also been awarded the ERASMUS MUNDUS Fellowship 2011 to visit University of Warsaw, POLAND. 3 Prof. S. G. Deshmukh: Prof. S. G. Deshmukh is affiliated to the department of Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Delhi for the last 25 years. He did his B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D from IIT Bombay. At present he is the director of IIITM Gwalior. Prof. Deshmukh works in the areas related to production, quality and optimization and issues related to general management. He has over 150 publications and has guided numerous M.Tech and Ph.D students. Prof. Deshmukh has also won numerous awards like Ramaswamy Cup, Emerald Literati Network Awards, Certificate of Appreciation as Proctor by American Society for Quality, etc. 4 Prof. M. K. Tewari: Prof. M.K. Tewari has been associated for long with National Institute of Foundry Technology at Ranchi. Currently he is head of IE & OR department at IIT Kharagpur. His research interests are in Manufacturing Planning & Scheduling, Logistics & Supply Chain Analysis, Computational Intelligence in Manufacturing & Logistics & Optimization & Simulation, and has also guided numerous M.Tech and Ph.D students with their respective theses work. 6 has over 150 publication and three books to his credit. Apart from that he is also in the editorial board of EEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics: Systems, International Journal of Production Research, Journal of Computers and Industrial Engineering, Journal of Information Science, Journal of Decision Support System, European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, etc. 5 Prof. Indrajit Mukherjee: Prof Mukherjee works as an Associate Professor in the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. He also worked as Faculty member in the School of Management Science, Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU), West Bengal (India), and in Mechanical Engineering Group, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan (India). He also had the opportunity to teach as a visiting Faculty in the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering, AIT, Bangkok, (Thailand). IIM Ranchi, NITIE (Mumbai), and Symbiosis (Pune). Prof Mukherjee received his Ph.D. from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (India), M.Tech (QR &OR) from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, West Bengal. The specific areas of research interest of Prof Mukherjee are Manufacturing and Service Quality, Supplier Selection in Supply Network, Multivariate Process Control, and Multi objective Optimization. Few of his research contributions can be seen in international journals, such as European Journal of Operations Research, Computers and Industrial Engineering, Applied Soft Computing, Quality Engineering, Journal of Material Processing Technology, Materials and Manufacturing Processes, Expert Systems with Applications, and Journal of Advance Manufacturing Technology. 6 Dr. Sumit Bose: Currently, Dr. Bose is a part of IBM's Strategy & Analytics Center of Competency and focus on predictive analytics, optimization and big-data. Dr. Bose has several years of experience of applying optimization techniques in solving challenging problems arising in different industries such as Oil & Gas, Transportation and Logistics. Prior to joining IBM, he has worked in industrial labs of Unisys Corporation and Infosys Technologies Ltd in Big-Data, Cloud Computing and Virtualization. Dr. Bose did his BTech from Delhi College of Engineering and his PhD from IIM Calcutta and he has several patents and publications to his credit. Page 6 of 6
