1 John Muir Middle School School Accountability Report Card Reported Using Data from the School Year Published During Every school in California is required by state law to publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC), by February 1 of each year. The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school. Under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) all local educational agencies (LEAs) are required to prepare a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which describes how they intend to meet annual school-specific goals for all pupils, with specific activities to address state and local priorities. Additionally, data reported in an LCAP is to be consistent with data reported in the SARC. Engagement State Priority: Parental Involvement The SARC provides the following information relevant to the Parental Involvement State Priority (Priority 3): Efforts the school district makes to seek parent input in making decisions for the school district and each schoolsite. Opportunities for Parental Involvement (Most Recent Year) Classroom Volunteering Parents can volunteer in classrooms. You can help the teachers with classroom tasks or assist in instruction. Field Trips JMMS students take the following trips that require parental chaperone help. 6th Grade Outdoor Education Day at Burris Park 7th Grade College Field Trip to Cal State University-Fresno 8th Grade Sacramento State Capital Tour 8th Grade Promotion Trip 8th Grade Promotion Dance Various Smaller trips put on by clubs. Student Activities JMMS can use help with operating large student activites. Some of those activites include the school-wide Field Day and the Beach Boardwalk Water Day, both held in May. Parent Teacher Club If any parent is interested in starting a JMMS Parent Teacher Club, please contact the principal for a meeting to discuss the possibility of starting this type of parent club on campus that can help organize educational support and fundraising for JMMS. State Priority: School Climate The SARC provides the following information relevant to the School Climate State Priority (Priority 6): Pupil suspension rates; Pupil expulsion rates; and Other local measures on the sense of safety. School Safety Plan (Most Recent Year) GOAL: To Provide for a safe, student-centered environment. The following procedures are elements of John Muir School action plan: A. An emergency Response Plan is in place. B. Have a staff meeting/training before school begins. C. Quarterly fire drills will be conducted, along with a lockdown and earthquake drill. D. Implement a Safety Month during the month of September in order to prepare effectively. E. Present sixth, seventh and eighth grade orientation assemblies to students and staff. Include an overview presentation of our Emergency Response Plan, Dress Code and Discipline Code. F. Implementation of a school wide Character Counts Program. G. Athletic equipment will be available to students during break and lunch on a check out basis. H. On a daily basis the advisory teachers will check students for dress code compliance. Students in violations are sent to the office. I. A Resource Officer and the John Muir administrators will assist with supervision on campus during the day. Also, when possible at the end of the school day, they will assist with the supervision of students exiting the school site. J. Varied weekly activities are available to maximize student involvement. K. On a weekly basis teachers are assigned yard duty. It is on Wednesday mornings from 8-9:40 a.m. Students have a late start every Wednesday. The teachers are able to meet together as a whole staff and receive professional development from each other, site administration, or outside presenters in some form or another every week. Teachers also have frequent time to collaborate together in their PLC s (Professional Learning Communities). There are various forms of PLC s on campus in order to keep the collaboration functioning at high efficiency. In addition to on site professional development, teachers are provided with district wide professional development. In the last year, teachers have received technology training, Kagan Cooperative Learning training, and Positive Discipline Training. Smaller groups are also sent out to various professional development trainings and conferences with various topics including common core instruction and technology. Facilitators are also brought into the school to help teachers plan their curriculum and teaching around common core principles.
