1 Nine Tips for Success in QuickBooks 2008 Thank you for upgrading to QuickBooks 2008! We ve made a number of improvements since your last purchase. Here are nine tips to help you get started and be even more successful with QuickBooks Click on the links below to jump to the topic in which you are interested. Locate Your Learn how to easily locate your company file. Customize Your Add shortcuts to the icon bar for quick access to frequently performed tasks. Access Customer, Vendor & Employee Learn how to find customer, vendor and employee lists. Find All the Information You Need in the Manage and locate all key information in the Customer, Vendor and Employee. Graph Income & Expenses See how your business is performing with easy-to-read graphs. Customize Your QuickBooks Set any window to open every time you start up QuickBooks. Turn on the Quickly toggle between reports, forms, and other screens. Create a Portable Create a compact version of your company file to easily move or . Learn Since Your Last Purchase See what we ve added to QuickBooks since your last purchase!
2 If you are trying to locate your company file, you can do so in one of two ways: Option 1: Open your old version of QuickBooks and press the F2 key. Look in the File Information box for the location of your company file. Portable Continued on the next page...
3 (continued) OR Option 2: Search your computer for files with the *.qbw extension (QuickBooks File extension). Portable
4 QuickBooks has added new icons to the for easier navigation to your Customer, Vendor, Employee and Report. For quick access to the areas of QuickBooks you use frequently, consider customizing your icon bar by adding the tasks and reports that you open on a daily or weekly basis. (Icons which you do not frequently use can also be easily removed.) Any window in QuickBooks can be added to the for easier access. Simply open the window that you want to add, then go to the View > Add Window to Icon Bar (where Window is the title of the window you are adding). If you require more room for your custom icons, you can remove the Navigation Bar. You can still access the Customer, Vendor and Employee from the homepage or via the QuickBooks menu. Portable Navigation Bar To Remove Navigation Bar: Go to the View Menu > Uncheck Navigation Bar To Customize : Open the Desired Window > Go to the View menu > Add Window to
5 In older versions of QuickBooks, the customer, vendor and employee lists were located under the List menu. With QuickBooks 2008, you can access your lists in the Customer, Vendor or Employee centers simply go to the Customers, Vendors and Employees menus, icons on the homepage, or icon bar. 6 The Customer, Vendor and Employee centers are a one-stop shop for viewing all of your transactions and other important information, such as the names and addresses of your customers, vendors, and employees. Customize the information that is displayed in each of the centers by adding new columns, such as address, phone number and job description. There are many available columns to choose from! 8 Want to know where your business stands? In QuickBooks 2008, you can find the Income & Expense Graph easily by using the Reports Menu. You can also create an icon for the same graph and add it to the for quick and easy access (See Page 4 for instructions). 11 The new QuickBooks homepage provides easy access to data and everyday tasks. The homepage is displayed when you open a QuickBooks file. But if you would rather have QuickBooks open different window(s), you can customize this in QuickBooks Preferences (Step 1). Note that the homepage will automatically open as well. Step 1: Open the window you would like to set as your QuickBooks desktop. Then, go to Edit > Preferences > View > Click Save Current. Portable Continued on the next page...
12 (continued) To prevent the homepage from opening, simply change the setting in your View Preferences (Step 2). Step 2: To remove the homepage from startup: Uncheck Show Homepage when opening a company file. Portable Continued on the next page...
13 (continued) You can also control which icons on the homepage are displayed. This is useful if you do not use certain features. To show or hide icons on the homepage: Go to Edit > Preferences > Destkop View > Company Preferences. Then select the feature you want to display or hide. Portable
14 If you used the Open Windows list to quickly toggle between reports, forms, and other screens, you can still turn on the Open Windows list in QuickBooks Once activated, the will appear to the left of the homepage upon startup.
