1 CITY ATTORNEY-ELECT MIKE FEUER'S TRANSITION TEAM Co-Chairs Andrea Sheridan Ordin has practiced more than 25 years as a government lawyer at the federal, state and local level, including serving as United States Attorney for the Central District of California, Chief Assistant Attorney General for California, Los Angeles County Counsel, and is now the President of the Los Angeles Police Commission; she was also a Partner and Senior Counsel at Morgan Lewis and Bockius for 18 years, President of the Los Angeles Bar Association, and Assistant District Attorney of Los Angeles. Robert M. Hertzberg is the Former Speaker of the California State Assembly and served as Chair of the 2005 transition team for Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, a transition team member for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, as Co-Chair of the 2009 transition team for City Attorney Trutanich, Chair of the Executive Committee of the Public Policy Institute of California and a member of the board of the public policy schools at USC Price, Pepperdine and Claremont; he currently practices with Mayer Brown LLP and serves as Vice Chair of the firm s LA office. Team Members Rebecca Avila is the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration at the UC Irvine School of Law and previously served as Executive Director of the City of Los Angeles Ethics Commission, a member of the Los Angeles Police Commission and Chair, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority Lourdes G. Baird served as a U.S. District Court Judge and a U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California, as well as a state court judge in Los Angeles County; she recently served as Chair of the Los Angeles Citizens Commission on Jail Violence and is currently a Mediator and Arbitrator with JAMS. Rev. J. Edgar Boyd is the influential pastor of the First African American Methodist Church; he has a long history of civic and religious leadership and public engagement. Bruce Brodie is the Los Angeles County Chief Deputy Alternate Public Defender, a County Office created to handle cases of conflict with the Public Defender's Office. He is widely credited for being part of the team that has created a model office for the nation, and serves on many community and professional boards. Mark Burton is a Councilmember in the City of Manhattan Beach and a former Senior Assistant City Attorney and General Counsel to LAPD, LAFD and Airport Police. Erwin Chemerinsky is the Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law at University of California, Irvine School of Law and formerly served as Chair of the Elected Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission. James Clark was a long-time litigation partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has handled a multitude of complex civil litigation matters at every level of the California and Federal Courts. 1
2 James Colbert was a senior litigation partner at O'Melveny & Myers for over 30 years, and later served for over six years as an Assistant City Attorney in the Criminal Branch of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, overseeing complex civil law enforcement actions. Camilo Cruz is the Community Relations Director for the Los Angeles Superior Court where he administers the Los Angeles County Teen Court Program, court diversity projects, judicial outreach to clergy and various other initiatives. Claudia Culling is a former Senior Assistant City Attorney with experience in a wide variety of municipal law issues, including land use, environment, election, ethics and other areas. Julie Downey previously served as the Managing Assistant of the Housing and Economic Development Division of the Los Angeles City Attorney's office and also served on the City of Los Angeles Redistricting Commission. Richard E. Drooyan is of counsel to the firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson, a member of the Los Angeles Police Commission and the Implementation Monitor for the reform of the County Jails; he formerly served as the Chief Assistant United States Attorney in Los Angeles. David W. Fleming is Of Counsel with Latham & Watkins LLP and has served on multiple City, County and State Commissions; he chaired the Los Angeles Chamber, BizFed, Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Valley Economic Alliance, VICA, LAEDC, Project Grad, among others. Alan Friedman, a labor and employment attorney with Munger, Tolles & Olson, chaired the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission, represented the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Committee for employment issues, and chaired the Los Angeles Bar's Labor Law section, the Constitutional Rights Foundation and Bet Tzedek Legal Services. Shirley Friedman serves as a Chaplain with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department; she has been a Los Angeles City Commissioner since 1993 and is on the board of Mission Community Hospital. Dean Hansell is a partner at Hogan Lovells and also serves as President of the Los Angeles Fire & Police Pensions Board. He has served on the Boards of the Los Angeles Police, Library, State Bar, Los Angeles Community College Foundations and the Los Angeles Gay &Lesbian Center. He is a past member of the Los Angeles Police Commission. George David Kieffer is a partner and member of the Executive Committee at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, principal co-author of the Los Angeles City Charter, and a member of the Board of Regents of the University of California. Patricia Kinaga is a former Los Angeles Deputy City Attorney (in the Criminal and Civil Branches), former partner at Seyfarth Shaw and Jones Day and now has her own law firm specializing in employment law. 2
3 Miriam Aroni Krinsky has served as a Lecturer at the UCLA School of Public Affairs, Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Citizens Commission on Jail Violence, as President of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, is a former Los Angeles Bar President and served for 15-years as a federal prosecutor. Manav Kumar is an attorney at Caldwell Leslie & Proctor, PC; he previously clerked for Judge Kim Wardlaw on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and served as a Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs and Defense to Senator Russ Feingold. Barbara Lindemann served as a Los Angeles Police Commissioner and a federal prosecutor; she is a civil rights attorney and the author of the leading treatise on employment discrimination law. Greg Lippe is a CPA who has provided professional services to a variety of Los Angeles area business enterprises for four decades; he currently serves as a Los Angeles City Commissioner of Fire and Police Pensions and as a Public Member of the California State Board of Pharmacy. Capri Maddox has served as a Los Angeles Deputy City Attorney and is the President of the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works. Carlos R. Moreno is a Former California Supreme Court justice, and is currently Of Counsel at Irell & Manella LLP; he was a Los Angeles Deputy City Attorney for four years before appointment to the State Court bench. Diana Nave is President of the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council and founding member of the Harbor Alliance of Neighborhood Councils; she previously worked for the City of 3
4 Los Angeles, heading the Community Development Department's Workforce Development Planning and Youth Sections, for United Way and Toberman House. Wilma Pinder is a former longtime member of the Los Angeles City Attorney s Office, serving there for nearly three decades, including six years in criminal trials and approximately 24-yrs. in civil litigation. Glenn Pomerantz is a partner at Munger Tolles & Olson; he previously served as President of the Board of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and currently serves on the Board of the Western Justice Center. Ira Reiner has a long and accomplished career in public service, having served as the Los Angeles City Controller, City Attorney and Los Angeles District Attorney; currently he is the President and CEO of the Homeland Security Advisory Council. Connie Rice is a civil rights attorney and gang prevention strategist; she is the co-founder and co-director of the Advancement Project and former co-director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's Los Angeles office. Thomas Saenz is a nationally-recognized civil rights attorney who serves as the President and General Counsel of MALDEF and on the steering committee of the California Civil Rights Coalition; he formerly served as Counsel to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Carol Schatz is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Central City Association and Downtown Center Business Improvement District; she has been instrumental in the revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles. Cheri Shankar is an animal welfare advocate who sits on the board of the Humane Society Legislative Fund, serves as National Council Co-Chair for the Humane Society of the United States and is a National Advisory Board member for the Union of Concerned Scientists. Rev. Xavier Thompson is the innovative pastor of the Southern Missionary Baptist Church and serves as President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California. Patricia Tubert is the owner of Tubert Consulting and previously served as the Chief Assistant City Attorney and Deputy Executive Director of Los Angeles World Airports. John Van de Kamp served the Central District's first Federal Public Defender, Los Angeles County District Attorney, California Attorney General, and is now Of Counsel at Mayer Brown LLP. Hernan Vera is the President and CEO of Public Counsel, the nation's largest pro bono law firm serving low-income children, immigrants, seniors and veterans. Stuart Waldman is President of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), one of the City's preeminent business groups representing almost 400 Los Angeles-area businesses that create and maintain over 100,000 jobs. 4
