1 2016 SUMMER EXTERNSHIPS THE LOS ANGELES SUPERIOR COURT The Los Angeles Superior Court is now accepting applications for 2016 summer externships. The Court offers full-time externships in the following areas: civil, criminal, probate, family, and juvenile. Externs work directly with the Superior Court's Judicial Officers, researching and writing legal memoranda for scheduled motions, as well as observing trials and daily law and motion hearings. Externs may also be assigned special court-related projects. Interested students should submit a resume, transcript (if available) and writing sample via to Extern@LACourt.org. In the text of the , if there is a preferred area of law, it should be highlighted. In January, the student would immediately begin work conducting research for an amicus curiae brief in the California Supreme Court. The section protects the public by prosecuting professional licensees, including nurses, accountants, dentist, pharmacists, contractors, etc., who have committed professional misconduct. The licensing section is currently accepting resumes for its Summer legal internship/externship program in Los Angeles. The position is unpaid and open to (rising) 2L and 3L students. The students must be enrolled in or have completed Evidence and Civil Procedure courses. Only

Public Counsel s consumer law practice addresses issues in range of areas: foreclosure, financial elder abuse, unfair business practices and more. Summer clerks split their time between fact development, case assessment, and assisting on our currently litigated cases. 7 CALIFORNIA COURT OF APPEAL-SUMMER The California Court of Appeal Summer Judicial Externship Program is seeking externs. Program participants work in justices chambers drafting opinions and writ memoranda. In addition, they are involved in an education component consisting of seminars on the appellate decision-making process and opinion writing skills. They also attend oral argument sessions in appellate courts and observe trial court proceedings in order to understand the entire judicial decision-making process. During the summer of 2015, 20 students from law schools across the country participated in the program. These students made a significant contribution to this court s ability to administer justice. Applications for the 2016 summer program will be accepted by per the attached instructions between December 1, 2015 and February 15, We will not consider those applications received before December 1, In order to receive consideration, the applications must include a cover letter, resume, legal writing sample, and law school transcript in a single pdf formatted document. Shortly after receipt of completed applications, the applications will be electronically circulated to the 32 justices on the court for their consideration. 8 SALES & TAX CLINIC/STATE INCOME TAX SUMMER 2016 There are current openings for summer 2016 in the Sales and Use Tax Clinic and the State Income Tax Clinic here at Loyola Law School. Students in both clinics represent clients who have tax appeals pending before the California State Board of Equalization (BOE). Students meet with the supervising attorney who offers guidance and instruction on the issues. Students work independently and will draft briefs, communicate with clients and opposing counsel, and perform legal research. Further students will occasionally have opportunities to represent clients at appeals conferences and oral hearings (like a court trial). Both clinics offer students a chance to gain real life experience representing clients in a litigation setting. Both clinics are on-campus programs, and class generally meets every other Thursday from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Class meetings are mandatory.. The course may be taken for one or two units and automatically satisfies the Public Interest Graduation Requirement if two units are completed. Students who have completed the first year of law studies are welcome to apply. Students need not be focusing on tax law to participate.
