Her company JRAM Enterprises, Inc. works to keep equine activities accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Barbara T. Page, DVM, ICVA Colorado Equine Clinic Although wanting to be an equine veterinarian since the age of 5, the arduous, difficult, and discouraged path to become one was confirmed after a somewhat simple, but life defining experience. It was 1967 and I was spending the day with some equine veterinarians when we went to see a big black mare with an old melon sized open dirty laceration on her right forearm. The wound was crusted with feces, dried blood, dirt, and oozed pus. She flinched as we pulled her hair in our attempts to wash and loosen the debris. It took more than an hour and she stood, not moving, until the wound surface was clean, pink and bleeding with fresh healing blood. I felt a connection: me helping her, she let me do what I felt she needed and what I wanted to do. There were no words, only feelings. She allowed me to give her my love through my efforts to help her. As I drove home, tears fell from my cheeks, tears because I felt love. The material realm was no longer all that existed. I knew, that whatever it took, equine medicine was where I would spend much of my life. Since graduation in 1977, I have been a scientist with a job to honor truth, and I am a veterinarian with a job to help heal horses. Horses have their own job. They help their owners manifest compassion and thus to become closer to their spiritual selves every day. 2

4 Steuart Pittman Steuart began riding as a child in the hunt field, in pony races, and at local shows. He was introduced to eventing through Pony Club and learned the fundamentals of dressage as a teenager from his inspiration and mentor, Ellen Shepherd. In high school Steuart evented through Preliminary on his Thoroughbred mare, Hurricane Hannah. After a ten-year absence from horses, Steuart returned full force in Since then he has derived most of his income from training and selling horses for eventing, dressage, and jumpers. Steuart can be seen each year with a new crop of horses who usually compete to the preliminary level and are sold. Some he has shown in the preliminary jumper circuit, and one he has shown fourth level dressage. In Salute The Truth, Steuart finally has a horse that is not for sale and is has competed up to the Advanced level. Steuart's instruction has come from a variety of trainers including Bruce Davidson, to whom he went regularly with his stallion Salute The Truth; Jim Wofford, Gunnar Ostergaard, Hans Jurgen, Stuart Black, Becky Langwost, and Linda Zang for dressage. He credits most of what he knows to the horses that he has worked with. He believes that all of us learn mostly from our horses, and in his teaching he attempts to speak from the viewpoint of the horse. The other major influence on Steuart's riding has been 20 years of daily practice in Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese practice of meditative movements designed to open up the free flow of energy through the body. Steuart often describes the interaction between horse and rider in terms of energy and encourages riders to think and feel in these terms. In 2003 Steuart participated in the first training program and assessment of the US Eventing Association's Instructor Certification Program. After intensive coaching and practice teaching before Karen O'Connor, Eric Horgan, Don Sachey and others, Steuart went to Texas to be evaluated in the areas of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping instruction, horse management, and safety. He passed in all areas and is now a part of the small group of trainers in the country certified to teach through the preliminary level. The program includes continuing education with the top trainers in the sport. Dale Simanton Dale works with trainers throughout the Midwest, but particularly Kentucky/Ohio to take in retired geldings and re-train them in second careers as ranch horses. While many of the geldings complete the program and go on into a ranching career, there have been quite a few that have succeeded in disciplines as diverse as pole bending and 3-day eventing. Basically, the horses did it, said Dale in an interview with The Bloodhorse. I never dreamed it would turn out as good as it has. 4

James Shaw For the last twenty years, James has worked diligently to bring his unique perspective and revolutionary riding techniques to the equestrian world. Based in the principals of the internal martial arts of Tai Chi Ba Qua and Eastern healing arts, James program Ride from Within causes riders to question and change old beliefs about balance, movement and strength. James has achieved international acclaim from World Class athletes, medical professionals and trainers for his unique understanding and application of the biomechanics of the body as dictated by the principles of Tai Chi. His ability to teach us HOW to receive and redirect a greater power is what separates him from other instructors. His techniques promote health, well-being and longevity in work, peak athletic performance and everyday life. James has a unique gift of sight that allows him to see and identify root causes of tension in the rider which cause subtle imbalances. These imbalances are mirrored by our horses and impede their free forward movement. No matter what level you ride at and no matter what discipline, James can unlock issues you may have spent years attempting to solve. James work is genius and must be experienced to be believed! 7 TJ Sommerfield TJ has been riding horses all her life. She started in saddle seat but quickly grew bored and converted to Dressage. Her riding experiences range from saddle seat, parades, endurance, hunter/jumpers, to exhibitions and dressage. TJ was fortunate to begin riding with Max Gahwyler in The basic dressage skills she learned from Mr. Gahwyler would carry her through the levels to Prix St. George, earning her USDF Bronze & Silver Medal. TJ believes in empowering every student by teaching them not only riding skills but also giving them insight into horses' behavior and biomechanics. In 2004 TJ was introduced to the Classical Dressage Training methods of the baroque masters by Ralf Schmitzer. She found this to be a more harmonious relationship with the horse that focuses on balance and lightness. She continues to train with Ralf when he visits twice a year from Germany. In May of 2008, TJ interned with Ralf at his training facility in Germany in order to further her understanding of the principles of this ancient art. Embracing the art of Working Equitation, TJ is now a sought after clinician specializing in obstacles and dressage. She trains in Franktown and Parker, and travels along the Front Range and Arizona teaching clinics and offering specialized private training. TJ has become well known for her amazing and unusual costumes for both horse and rider for use in exhibition performances and parades. Teri Strege Parelli Natural Horsemanship Professional Teri wasn t quite born on a horse but horses have been a major part of her life for over 50 years. She grew up in 4-H and Little Britches. As an adult she became interested in dressage. She has always enjoyed the outdoors with her horses, so trail riding was a natural. When she was first exposed to Parelli Natural Horsemanship, she was already having a lot of success as a trainer/instructor, but she was getting hurt frequently. By noon of the second day of her first clinic auditing Pat, she declared, 25 years with horses and I know NOTHING about horses! Everything changed that day. She is continually looking for ways to help horses with their humans and humans with their horses. Understanding and knowledge are powerful tools in her life that are continually being sharpened! Teri believes that training a horse should be as natural as breathing in and out. It is only when we get ahead of the horse that tension develops. By reading the subtleties of horse language and knowing how to respond to the differences in horse temperament (horsenality) most, if not all, opposition and resistance can be avoided or overcome. By first creating trust, then building a mutual language, rapport and respect result in obedient, exuberant performance. Teri is a regular contributing writer to the Savvy Times Magazine and has developed many specialty courses applying natural horsemanship. Among these are Horse Psychology and Behavior for Veterinarians taught at Colorado State University and a ten week Building Confidence course for those overcoming fear issues related to horses. 7

11 Terri Wagner, Dr. Regan Golob and Dr. Elizabeth Dooher Terri was introduced to Dynamite in 2002 by Dynamite distributor Lynette Wiens at the National Western Show in Denver, Colorado. Lynette says she entered the mule barn with the sole purpose of sharing stories about her life-saving products. Terri, having lost 5 mules to colic and other health problems, was open to hearing about Dynamite products, although she was certain she had tried everything. Dr. Regan Golob was also in town for the show and Lynette was able to bring Terri and him together and they hit it off right away Regan being a doctor and Terri a nurse. In a short time, Regan was able to clarify some things about the health of Terri s mules that several veterinarians, pathologists, and nutritionists could not. Lynette ran home to grab Dyna Pro, Miracle Clay, and brochures to give to Terri, who started supplementing her mules right away. I am grateful for Lynette every day of my life. Terri says. Terri hosts seminars frequently, and each year Regan Golob and Judy Sinner, Dynamite Gold Directors, travel to Colorado for the Ancient Wisdom Meets Common Sense Horsemanship seminar and Dynamite product training. It is my favorite seminar to teach because the attendees are so diverse; draft horse fans, team ropers, barrel racers, dressage riders, energy therapists, mule owners - all there because they love and respect Terri. Judy says. Dr. Regan Golob Dr. Regan Golob is a difficult, if not impossible, health care professional to classify. Although holding degrees in both Biology and Chiropractic, Dr. Golob is noted for vastly expanding his knowledge beyond the confines of any single discipline. He integrates his knowledge of the healthy functioning of all aspects of humans, animals, micro-organisms and plants to guide and nurture people and animals to optimum health. Central to Dr. Golob's abilities to guide humans and animals to a level of health that they may never before have experienced is knowledge of common sense physiology combined with development of Bio-energy analysis techniques, all of which reveal nutritional, structural and emotional imbalances. Dr. Golob is also a consultant to and associate of Dynamite Marketing, a source of exceptional nutritional products. He has written many helpful articles for the Dynamite Newsletter. 11

12 Dr. Elizabeth Dooher Like many young girls, Dr. Elizabeth Dooher developed a love for "all things horse" at a young age. She teaches workshops for amateur photographers on equine photography. She markets her fine art prints from her website as well as in several locations on the Front Range of Colorado and has won numerous awards with her artwork. Nine years ago, Carol began photographing wild horses. As she followed several herds in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana, she became aware of how precarious their situation on public lands has become. Since then, she has dedicated herself to educating people with her photographs and stories about the wild horses. She is one of the leading advocates working to keep America s wild horses wild and free on our public lands. Cindy has served as the National Advisory Board Member for the Mid Mountain Region of ExCA since the beginning of the association in Cindy's dedication to ExCA horse and rider obstacle clinics has expanded ExCA participation greatly in Colorado.
