CPA is one of the very few private schools serving home-educated students nationwide that is fully accredited and allows parents their choice of curriculum! Home education provides parents with the opportunity to instruct their children academically and spiritually, equipping them to have a positive impact on our world. But home schooling carries with it a responsibility to record grades accurately, track academic progress, and ultimately be prepared to provide a diploma and high school transcript. CPA offers a parent the ability to choose your own curriculum, but CPA is there for you with advice and counseling to make sure you are meeting all requirements for your students. We also keep records of your student s course work. When a student successfully completes his high school academics, CPA awards a high school diploma from our fully accredited private school. CPA provides a high school transcript, guidance recommendations, help with dual enrollment, processing of the Bright Futures Scholarship information (FL) to assist with the college application process, and a diploma for those that complete graduation requirements. CPA students have been accepted in colleges across the nation. It is our prayer that you will choose Champion to provide the support you need to ensure a successful homeeducation program. 4 ABOUT CHAMPION PREPARATORY ACADEMY (CPA) Our Mission It is the mission of CPA is to provide support, resources, programs, and tools to encourage parents to a high standard of excellence in their home-education program and to prepare our students for real life as well as college. Statement of Policy It is the opinion of the Board of Directors that our policies are fair and just. Each family enrolled in Champion Preparatory Academy programs has acknowledged their responsibility to the organization and obligated themselves to the fulfillment of its policies. The expectations are of responsible compliance to reasonable standards, which allows for grace but also enforces just consequences when violations occur. Our History CPA is a not-for-profit organization which operates under the name of Champion Schools, Inc. CPA was incorporated in CPA became a non-public private school in 1997 and was fully accredited in CPA operates for the sole purpose of fulfilling the legal requirements and to provide support and resources to parents who desire to home-educate their children. Our Founder The President and founder of CPA is Mrs. Vicki Falco. Mrs. Falco has a MA. in Speech Pathology and minor in Educational Psychology from Wichita State University and over twenty years experience in developing and administrating educational programs. Mrs. Falco homeschooled her two children for seventeen years. Her daughter graduated in 2008 after attending CPA K-12 and graduated from college in Her son was home schooled from third twelfth grade. Through many prayers and God s direction, CPA programs have served well over a thousand home-schooled children since inception of our program. Mrs. Falco is the Administrator of CPA and provides over-site to all Champion programs and has a great heart for homeschool and alterative educational programs. Mrs. Falco was named Who s Who in School Administration, an honored member of Stanford Who s Who, and is a certified private school administrator. Our Awards: Champion Preparatory Academy has been selected as the 2009 and 2010 Best Elementary & Secondary School in Altamonte Springs, FL. 5 OVERVIEW OF CHAMPION PROGRAMS (CAMPUS, ONLINE AND HOMESCHOOL) We offer the following distinctive Fully Accredited programs to serve the needs of Age 4-12th grade students. Please request the Day School Packet to learn more about on-campus programs. CPA HOMESCHOOL ACADEMY (NON-TRADITIONAL PRIVATE SCHOOL) allows parents to legally school at home. CPA offers academic testing, recordkeeping, professional school transcripts, many activities and field trips, four diploma options, a graduation ceremony and much more. Enrollment accepted year round! ONLINE LEARNING: Champion Online Academy is on the web and available 24/7. Sign up for one course or take your whole curriculum online (K-12). Champion offers over 150 online courses (remedial, regular and honors), 17 AP courses and college math courses! Select from Christ-centered or secular online curriculum. Start at any time! PRESCHOOL: Champion offers an on-campus program for age 4 (by Sept. 1) and a VPK program at our Apopka location. Champion preschool is an academic, developmental program. Students may attend our preschool and enjoy a full day of cooperative group learning, thematic units and centers all while learning developmental skills. Students may attend one, three or four days per week. CHAMPION PREPARATORY ACADEMY DAY SCHOOL (K-12 th grade): Our Day School is a Christcentered school where students may attend one, three or four days a week. Students school at home with teacher-written lesson plans on the days they aren t in class. Champion provides a small teacher/student ratio, interactive white boards, multi-sensory learning, classical literature, all core subjects and many enrichment classes. Champion instills a high standard of excellence in both character development and academics--all within a nurturing family-oriented school built on Christian values. REMEDIAL AND CUSTOMIZED ACADEMICS: Champion s S.T.A.R (Students and Teachers Achieving Results) program is a five-day-a-week program that offers an alternative learning environment for students in grades 5-12 who have mild to moderate learning challenges. The McKay Scholarship is accepted for the S.T.A.R. program. Sorry, but we can t accept students who have behavioral issues or severe learning challenges. DAY SCHOOL CONNECTIONS:VPK-12 This one day a week homeschool enrichment program (Monday Apopka, FL) offers traditional homeschool families the opportunity for their children to attend a day of cooperative learning, hands on activities, and fellowship. There is no homework or lesson plans. (See Day School Information Packet) BEHAVIOR CONTROL : We are sorry, but we are unable to accept students in any of our on-campus programs that struggle with behavior control. Students that are enrolled in online programs, homeschooling, or our campus programs may enroll to receive help from professional teachers in Math, English, Science, and History. 4

7 GENERAL INFORMATION PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENT: Students who are enrolled in CPA are considered private school students and do NOT fall under home school law. Families in FL do not need to register with the superintendent in your district. Out of state families may additionally be required to enroll with your superintendent. This is up to the parent to determine if this is required. Check our website under state laws. COMMUNICATION between the school and the home are vital in any healthy academic setting. All members of the school community are encouraged and expected to make proper and ongoing use of any communication methods the school may devise, in accordance with any relevant school guidelines. Parents must keep their online enrollment account contact information updated at all times. It is imperative that parents check and visit our member website on a regular basis. Our PASS-A-NOTE system on our member website will enable you to easily send a note to the staff members. COURSE OF STUDY: The course of study that parents design for their students must meet standards as set forth by our skills checklist for each grade level for K-8 and the Florida Department of Education frameworks for high school students. However, since specific state requirements may vary from the prescribed course under our program, it is the responsibility of out of state parent/educators to see that their own state s legal requirements are also satisfied. CPA guidance counselors are happy to help with curriculum selection. Parents enter their course of study information (subjects, publishers, where schooling is done, and for high school FL course numbers) on our online reporting by Sept 1 or within 30 days of enrollment, if enrolling after Sept 1. PROGRESS REPORTS: Since home schooling is under the instructional supervision of the home, all grades issued for work completed while enrolled in this program will be assigned by the parent/teacher. Self-reported grades and attendance are posted on our online reporting website at the end of each semester on Dec 31, May 31, and Sept. 1 if your child has participated in summer school. These grades become part of the student s permanent cumulative file. Students who are enrolled in our on-campus or online programs do not have to report progress and attendance as this is reported by the classroom teacher. ATTENDANCE RECORDS: Parents are required to keep track of daily attendance. Field Trips that are educational may be counted as a day of school. You may school year round with CPA. REPORTING LATE FEES: There is a $25.00 late fee for reports received after the 30th of the month in which reports are due. Families,who don t submit reports within 45 days of the month which the report is due, are subject to dismissal. The fee for re-instatement is $50.00 per family. Enrollment will not be reinstated more than one time. SCHOOL ATTENDANCE: Students who have attained the age of 6 years or who will have attained the age of 6 years by February 1 of any school year or who are older than 6 years of age but who have not attained the age of 16 year are required by law to attend school regularly for 180 days (minimum 170) each year. CPA students must follow this state law and are required to school 180 days with a minimum of 170 each year. MINIMUM SCHOOL HOURS: (Required by FL private school state law). These hours are based on a 180 day school year-if you school more than 180 days divide the net hours by the number of days you school to get the hours per day. Remember recess, lunch, field trips, PE, computer time all count toward your school day! (a) Kindergarten: Five hundred forty (540) net instructional hours. (3 hours per day) (b) Grades 1-3: Seven hundred twenty (720) net instructional hours. (4 hours per day) (c) Grades 4-12: Nine hundred (900) net instructional hours. (5 hours per day) 6

8 PORTFOLIO: Parents are required to keep lesson plans, dates taught, and the students work for a minimum of 4 years. We will be requesting portfolio reviews for a number of our students this year. Please make sure you keep these up as you go. Use a 3-5 inch, 3-ring binder and put a divider for each subject. When work is completed, just put it in the notebook, and you will have it done. If the school calls for your portfolio, we will give you a 30 day notice. The parent is responsible for the cost of shipping and return shipping. Parents are required by law to provide an adequate instructional program in the core subjects of math, language arts, social studies, science, reading, literature, and physical education and to provide this to the school upon request. ACADEMIC POLICIES Grading Scale % A Excellent 80-89% B Above Average 70-79% C Average 60-69% D Below Average 0-59% F Failing GENERAL INFORMATION ACHIEVEMENT TESTING Students in grades 3,5, 7, 9-12 are required to participate in achievement testing. CPA offers the online Stanford Achievement Testing 10th edition in February, May, and June. Students take the online test at home. The fee for the SAT10 online testing is $ Parents have the option to participate in the online testing or administer the California Achievement Test at home (order through ) or use the IOWA, FCAT, or CTBS tests. High School students may submit an SAT, ACT or PSAT in place of achievement testing. Each student is expected to maintain a grade equivalency score that is at or above the current grade of instruction. For example, a student completing third grade should have a minimum grade equivalency of 3.0 in reading and math. A senior s grade equivalency scores for the twelfth grade should therefore be no lower than a 12.0 in math and reading. The results of this testing will become part of the student s permanent record and should support the semester grades reported by parents. HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC TESTING The CPA CEEB Code required for registration with ACT and SAT is Students who plan to attend a four year college need to take the PSAT in 10th or 11 th grade, (Register with your local district high school) and the College Board SAT and/or ACT in 11th -12th grade. All seniors graduating with a scholar, standard, or accelerated diploma are required to take the College Board SAT or ACT exam. Students register for the SAT online at and ACT online at SPECIAL NEEDS: Students who have an IEP or special needs designation are not required to score at grade level. CPA will look for one year progress each year based on their testing scores. We highly recommend our S.T.A.R program and/or our CPA Online Academy for students that fall below grade level. Please request information on these programs from our website or call our school office. MEMBER WEBSITE: Once your registration is completed, you will receive a login to our member only website. You will find many resources as well as all forms, communication, and news posted on this website. Members need to check-in weekly to keep updated. All information is posted on this website. All field trips and activities are posted on the member website calendar. Sign-up and payment for all activities is done by clicking on the calendar event. 7

9 GENERAL INFORMATION FLORIDA VIRTUAL HIGH SCHOOL: This is a public high school offering free middle and high school coursework to Florida Residents. CPA is an affiliate school of FVHS and provides this enrollment opportunity as a service to our students. To enroll in FVHS and CPA first complete the CPA enrollment and then go on FVHS and select Champion Preparatory Academy as your school and Seminole (they shold change this to Orange for the school year) as your district. Please complete your enrollment with CPA before enrolling in FVHS, as we have to approve your enrollment. Go to for more information. ACADEMIC COURSE REQUIREMENTS All students must complete a core curriculum consisting of: K-6: Bible (Optional), Reading and (Phonics K-3), English (Writing and Grammar), Math, Science, Social Studies, Handwriting, Spelling, Art, Music, Computer Skills, Physical Education (3 times per week for 30 minutes) 7-8: Bible (Optional), Literature, English (Writing & Grammar), Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Computer Skills, Physical Education (3 times per week for 30 minutes) HIGH SCHOOL CPA HIGH SCHOOL GUIDE: This guide is posted on the member website. Please read this carefully, as it will help you plan your High School Students course of study. All High School parents need to have at least one meeting each year (phone, , or personal appointment), with our CPA Guidance Counselor to make sure you are clear about course codes, courses needed for graduation, scholarships, course requirements, dual enrollment, etc... All High School courses must meet the Educational Standards as set forth in the Florida Department of Education Frameworks for High School. The course descriptions and codes (Florida Frameworks) may be obtained by logging on the Internet to HONORS DESIGNATION: Courses that exceed the minimum standard may carry the designation of Honors. Honors classes receive are weighted higher than regular classes. (5.0 =A) AP EXAMS: Students may take AP exams and receive AP college credit as long as they pass the AP exam. Most colleges accept a 3 as a passing score to receive college credit, but this can vary. AP study guides are available at many bookstores. To register to take an AP test, you must call your local high school and set this up with the guidance counselor or AP coordinator. Many four year colleges prefer AP courses over dual enrollment as the tests are standardized and require a high level of proficiency in the course to pass the exams. 8

10 GENERAL INFORMATION WORK STUDY: High School students may receive credit for working but must complete required documentation for this program. The forms are available under High School forms on the member website. Each 75 hours of work is counted as ½ credit. The Course name is called Coop Divers Ed-OJT. The course code is COMMUNITY SERVICE High School students completing volunteer hours for the Florida Merit Scholarship must have their volunteer program approved by CPA before starting the program. All hours must be documented and signed by an adult volunteer supervisor. 75 hours of volunteer work is counted as ½ credit. BRIGHT FUTURES SCHOLARSHIP Florida Residents: The Florida Bright Scholarship program has complete information at Students in their senior year will go online to apply, and then CPA will enter your transcript and final grades. You will be notified of eligibility. Please make sure you have read the guidelines for the scholarships, so you can meet the academic guidelines to qualify. The CPA Guidance Counselor is available to discuss this with parents. TRANSCRIPT: Our CPA guidance counselor will help you manage your high school credits and will enter all credits on our official CPA professional transcript. Parents have access to this transcript on their private member only website. DUAL ENROLLMENT: The minimum age for most dual enrollment programs is 16. You may contact the college or community college of your choice and find out if they allow dual enrollment and their eligible age. Once you have selected your college, they may have specific paperwork or contracts that CPA will need to complete. The parent may be requested to get the forms to CPA or the school may send them directly to us. Please allow at least 60 days advance notice to make sure everything is set up so you can enroll without any delays. Student should have at least a 3.0 GPA to consider trying dual enrollment. Dual enrollment courses will count for High School credit and college credit. TRUANCY: Students who have withdrawn from a private or public school normally have 10 days to transfer their records to another school. After 10 days in most districts and states students are considered truant and may be picked up by a truancy officer. ATHLETICS: All Champion middle and high school student can register with their local district to play the sport of their choice. Champion will provide the forms for enrolling in public school sports. 9

11 SENIOR INFORMATION NEW SENIOR ENROLLMENT: CPA accepts students in their senior year up until October 1. Seniors must complete six credits with CPA and complete all CPA graduation requirements. All seniors must have their records reviewed before final acceptance. All seniors are required to take the SAT (college board) or ACT as part of their graduation requirements. (see score requirements on the graduation requirements page.) If a student does has not achieved the required scores on the SAT or ACT we will consider a passing score on a College Placement Test (CPT) or an High School Exit Exam. Students must be enrolled in CPA for a minimum of two years to be named Valedictorian or Salutatorian. VALEDICTORIAN/SALUTATORIAN: The following areas are considered when selecting our Valedictorian and Salutatorian: GPA, SAT or ACT Scores, AP or college credits, Community Service, Christian values, and leadership. Students must have been enrolled with CPA for a minimum of two years to be considered. DIPLOMA : A diploma in a beautiful leather binder is granted to students who complete all CPA diploma requirements. Students may choose to participate in our graduation ceremony and receive their diploma at that time or receive the diploma at any time once the student completes graduation requirements. GRADUATION: A beautiful graduation is held in June in Orlando. All students are encouraged to participate in this wonderful ceremony. Seniors who plan to attend the graduation must pay the graduation fee along with their senior tuition. Students who are within three months of completing their requirements may participate in the graduation. The diploma will be mailed when all requirements are met. 13 CPA TUITION AND FEES CALENDAR YEAR: Membership for the school year is from: June 1- May 31. Re-enrollment for the following school year should be completed by May 15 to continue as a CPA member in good standing. Tuition is the same regardless of the time you enroll. Starting on March 1 families that are additionally enrolling for next school year can add March-May for an additional fee of $ per student. REGISTRATION FEES are due at the time your enroll. You will receive a Steps to Finalizing your enrollment once registration fees are paid. Registration Fees are non-refundable. TUITION FEES: Tuition fees include: educational consultation and guidance, record keeping, online reporting, transcripts for high school, access to our member website with many educational resources and CPA forms, membership to FPEA (if enrolling before August 30), and participation in all activities & field trips. Activity and field trip fees are not included in tuition. Tuition Fees are non-refundable 14 days after enrollment. NEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT GRADES CREDIT EVALUATION & PROCESSING FEE: This fee of $ for grades for any new incoming high school student. All high school credits are transferred to our database, a planning guide is completed, and a new CPA transcript is prepared for each new student. This fee is nonrefundable once credits have been processed! GRADUATION FEES: Senior graduation fee of $ must be included along with your tuition payment. This fee does not include the cost of the cap/gown/tassel or invitations. WITHDRAW POLICY : Parents must notify the school in writing of intent to withdraw. Parents that choose the monthly option to pay fees must pay yearly tuition in full before withdrawing from CPA. CPA will automatically deduct all fees due on the last month of your enrollment. Records will not be transferred if yearly fees are not paid in full. If you have questions please sign-up for an information meeting (online or on-campus) Click on Enroll Now on our website ( 3. Complete the Online Enrollment form and select classes (programs) for your student and Enrollment Options. 4. Our staff will review your online application, and if anything is missing, we will notify you. 5. Next, you will need to pay your registration fee. If you have questions, please sign-up for an information meeting (online or on-campus) Log into your family account on Sycamore (our member website). Navigate to My Sycamore/My School/My Re- Enrollment. Select Re-Enroll on the form. Please check all information that is already in the system and make sure it is correct. Please read the steps to enrollment on the Sycamore website and all details that pertain to current members. 3. Our staff will review your online application and, if anything is missing, we will notify you. 4. Next, you will need to pay your registration fee. 15 PAYMENT INFORMATION *Registration & Tuition Fees: All registration fees are due and payable at the time of enrollment. Champion utilizes an outside tuition management company called FACTS Tuition Management to collect all registration and tuition fees. All members, except those that pay in full (registration and tuition) with a check within 10 days of receiving the Steps to Finalizing your enrollment , need to set up a FACTS account. Parents may log in their FACTS account at any time and make additional payments. The link will be provided in your Steps to Finalizing your enrollment . Families that do not login to FACTS to set-up their account for registration fees within 10 days of receiving the will be removed from enrollment. Monthly Payment Plans are from June-May (12 months) If you enroll after June, the monthly payments will be based on the yearly amount/by the # of months available for payment. FACTS tuition management: All members, except those that pay in full (registration and tuition) with a check within 10 days of receiving the Steps to Finalizing your enrollment , need to set up a FACTS account. FACTS fees: FACTS charges a one-time per year (per family) fee of $41.00 for setting up monthly payments or a $10.00 fee per year (per family) for 1-2 payment options. There are additional small fee charges for the use of credit cards. 16 REQUIRED STUDENT RECORDS (NEW MEMBERS ONLY) This paperwork is required by the Department of Education and must be submitted BY July 1 or within 10 days of enrollment, If enrolling after July 1. Definitions: *Distance Student: (Any student not participating in on-campus classes.) *On-Campus Student (Any student enrolling in on-campus programs (Preschool-Day School, STAR C.P.A.L.S. or enrichment classes) DISTANCE STUDENT transferring from a public or private school: Please mail or take the CPA Transfer of records form (603) (last page in this packet) to your child s previous school at the time you officially withdraw from school. **If your student is in high school, please mail or fax a copy of their transcript prior to enrollment. Many schools will take longer than 10 days to send your records. If we have not received your records within 10 days, we will call the school to confirm that you are a student in good standing, and they will be sending the records. Once this is confirmed, your enrollment can be finalized without receipt of records. Please note CPA does not send the 603 Form to the school, unless a school will not accept a parent submitted request of records. Should this happen, please contact our school. DISTANCE STUDENT transferring from homeschooling: If you are currently homeschooling and are not transferring records from another school, please submit the following within 10 days of enrollment. Grades 1 8 Submit Progress and Attendance Records for each year of homeschooling for grades 1-8 (a list of subjects taken, grades and attendance for each year of school) 2. High School- All high school students need to submit a high school record showing credits, courses, grades and attendance for 8 th grade and each year of high school completed, prior to enrollment.
