7 Case Study: GCCIA EMS This full EMS project will allow to monitor and control the 5,650 MW exchange between the six Middle East Countries The Control System will supervise the operation of the transmission grid interconnecting Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman. It will guarantee the efficiency and safety of the power grid, and enable the recording and billing of energy transactions between the different countries.

9 Case Study: Capacity Allocation. CASC-CWE The new company CASC-CWE (Capacity Allocation Service Company for the Central West European Electricity market), will be located in Luxembourg. CASC-CWE will be a service company which, on behalf of the Transmission System Operators involved, will act as a single point to implement and operate services related to the auctioning of power transmission capacity on the common borders between the five countries. This company will ease cross-border power exchange and delivery for all market parties within the Central West European Electricity market especially through the standardization of systems and rules. Thanks to this initiative liquidity and competition within the five markets will increase.
10 Case Study: Capacity Allocation. CASC-CWE French Border The products that can be traded on EPEX Spot are standard contracts for the physical delivery of electricity within the Austrian, French, German or the Swiss transmission systems. Germany/Austria Border The products are characterized by two different trading processes: auction and continuous trading.

14 Evolutions: Renewables Renewables will trigger enhanced Regional Power Pools by two means: Overall Grid Stability is impacted by Massive Renewable injection on both the Transmission and Distribution Grid High Renewable Penetration locally may result in capability to sell Energy to neighbours
