Hidden in a narrow street between University buildings, this pub is very popular, not only because of its beer selection, but also because it is one of the few places opened until 2:00! 3

4 Mister Mofongo Oude Boteringestraat 26 Downstairs, you can eat a nice meal or just enjoy a beer. Upstairs you will find the best cocktail bar in Groningen with an impressive collection of gins, many of them locally brewed. 4

5 Restaurants Het Concerthuis 15 to 20 Poelestraat 30 The Concerthuis is a bar, restaurant and café, all in one. The furniture and china are vintage and you can play board games, meaning that this place is Groningen s best attempt of a hipster bar. The coffee is roasted on site. The food is served in small portions to encourage food sharing. The personnel is very relaxed about dietary wishes vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, you name it! They also serve a variety of special beers. In short, this is a great place for a gezellige evening (google it, it s a Dutch way of life). De Uurwerker 10 to 20 Uurwerkersplein 1 Hidden between the Faculty of Arts and De Pintelier, one of the most popular pubs for special Belgian beer, is one of the most recent additions to vibrant Groningen student life: The Uurwerker. It s self-service, so you order your stone oven pizza s, burgers, fries and beers at the bar. The food is decent. On Thursdays, the restaurant is often packed with students and a DJ is playing. If you want to go with a bigger group, it is advisable/necessary to reserve beforehand. 5

6 Pernikkel 13 to 17 Aweg 2 Yet another restaurant for young and old urban inhabitants. Most of the interior of this café and restaurant is self-made, recycled or vintage. The focus lies on the regularly changing menu delicious self-made cakes and food. The wine selection is also very nice. The atmosphere is quieter than in the Concerthuis or Uurwerker. As a result, during the day, you often meet people working on their laptops with a fresh mint tea. Also, it is only a 3 minute walk from the Kasteel. The personnel is very friendly and open to dietary requirements. Hanasato 40 to 70 Gedempte Zuiderdiep 55 If you are yearning for sushi or exquisite Japanese food, Hanasato is the place for you. The menu is as small as the place itself, but whatever you order, you will not be disappointed. However make sure to either reserve in advance ( ) as there are only a few tables available. t Feithuis 30 to 40 Martinikerkhof 10 Right behind the Martini tower, t Feithuis is perhaps one of the most traditional restaurants in town. You can try local specialties in the Smaak van t Noorden (taste of the North) menu, or go for the tasting menu, out of seasonal products. Can accomodate groups, but better to reserve in advance. 6

7 Thai Jasmine 26 to 35 Gedempte Zuiderdiep 19 A refreshing stop with very authentic Thai food. If you are on the look for spicy and hot sensations, this is the place to go. Go as a small group and order many separate dishes to share. Thai Jasmine also offers a vegetarian menu. Brussels Lof 30 to 40 A-kerkstraat 24 A traditional looking, fish restaurant, particularly friendly for vegetarians. What Brussels Lof does, it does very well. The chef has put a lot of attention is designing a large selection of finely crafted dishes, with carefully selected fresh produces. The wine selection matches the dishes and is always a hit. But do not let the traditional look of the place deceive you, Brussels Lof will also be able to surprise you in the best way. Bla Bla 19 to 30 Nieuwe Boteringestraat 9 An address dedicated to vegetarian food. Despite the name, at Bla Bla you will receive a warm, earthly welcome from the owner, and enjoy simple, warm, earthy food. Choose between one of the three menus available and let your palate guide you through your plate. The place is not particularly large, so it wise to reserve in advance and avoid large 7

11 More food Farmers Market On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the Vismarkt is the best place to get deep fried fish, local cheese, and the famous stroopwafels! Dutch Candy Droppie: delicious Dutch liquorice in multiple flavours and textures. 11
