2 Military EHRS Where Do We Stand? Where Are We Going? How Will We Get There? The DoD has been at the forefront of developing and installing Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRS), serving over nine million patients, one hundred thirty thousand Medical Health System (MHS) staff, over four hundred medical clinics and more than sixty military hospitals. Healthcare professionals in all fixed military medical facilities and in many deployed environments have access to EHRS. By contrast, less than ten percent of US non-military hospitals have even a basic electronic records system. There have been bumps in the road: concerns have been raised about the reliability and ease of use of DoD s EHRS and whether it is productive and cost-effective. There have also been problems in getting DoD systems to interoperate efficiently with the Department of Veterans Affairs EHRS. This outstanding conference brings together the experts from government and industry who are defining and developing the solutions to these and other issues and who are modernizing the military Healthcare IT infrastructure and developing the next-generation Military EHRS. What are the goals and objectives of the DoD EHR Way Ahead Program Office? What is the future of AHLTA? What are the lessons learned in EHR implementation? How is the deployment of the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) progressing? How will the introduction of Service-Oriented Architecture tools and technologies facilitate interoperability among DoD and VA EHR Systems? What must you know about Meaningful Use and its application to Military EHRS? How do you measure the effectiveness of EHRS? How do you ensure security and privacy? How are Web-based hosting and Cloud Computing changing the approach to EHRS? What new capabilities are being developed in EHRS data mining and global, mobile EHRS? How do we tie military and private systems into the National Healthcare Information Network? What opportunities are available? These and many other critical questions will be addressed during this comprehensive event.
