Word search and answer key Sudoku and answer key Bingo: 50-card pack, 200-card pack and instructions Making Decisions game Funding game and instructions United Way trivia and instructions Tricycle Races: Staff or members of management race on tricycles outdoors or throughout the building. Basketball Shooting Contest: Set up a basketball hoop outdoors and have employees pay a dollar to see who can sink the most free throws. The money goes to the United Way and the winner gets a cool prize. Consider having a wastebasket version indoors! Putt-Putt Tournament: Set up a miniature golf course throughout the office. Have various departments design each hole. Give prizes to top finishers. Washers Tournament: Have teams sign up to compete in a washers tournament. Give away the washers set to the winning team. Hula-Hoop Contest: Employees compete in teams or as individuals. Have your camera ready! Walk or Run-a-Thon: Have a 5k walk or run around your company s neighborhood. Employees can secure donations for every mile they complete. Puppy Love: Ever hear that a lot of pets look like their owners? Test this theory by having employees match a pet picture to its correct owner. Award a prize to the contestant with the most right answers or provide gift certificates to owners who look the most like their pets. Trick or Treat Party: Treat kids from an agency to a tour of the office in a costume parade. Give each child a treat bag with candies, pencils and erasers. Kiss the Pig: Post pictures of executives next to a piggy bank. Have employees vote for the executive of their choice by donating coins and cash. The manager with the most money has to kiss a live pig. Executive Receptionist: Put together a board with headshots of company executives. Place an envelope below each picture for "votes." The executive who receives the most contributions of money in their envelope wins the honor of being receptionist for the day. United Way Trivial Pursuit: Distribute or printed up questions about United Way and its programs every day for a week. Then ask trivia questions based on the information. Those completing all questions are entered into a drawing. Cookie Exchange: Have each employee bring a plate of their favorite cookies to work and swap them with other employees. Pie Throwing Contest: Employees donate to their "favorite" executive and the highest money raiser gets whipped cream on paper plates thrown at them during a thank-you celebration. 24-Hour Barbeque: Join with other companies near your business to have a 24-hour cookout (to reach all shifts) with games and giveaways. Have an agency speaker or torchlighter or invite clients from area agencies to participate in the festivities. United Way Campaign Ideas 5

Use of company car Shares of company stock Paid time off Cocktails or dinner at the CEO's home Pizza party Coffee served at donors' desks each morning for a week, served by the CEO Free oil change Tickets to plays, sporting events or concerts Golf lessons Free hotel stay Airline tickets Housecleaning service Lottery tickets Beauty or barber shop coupons Cellular phone with free minutes Big screen television Steaks from Omaha Steaks Young donors may not be your highest-dollar donors right now, and you might even have trouble getting some of them to read a brochure. Finding a way to engage young donors is vitally important, not only for this campaign, but for all of those in the future. Young employees will be more likely to give in five years if they establish a relationship with your United Way campaign now, and the fresh ideas, creativity and teamwork they will bring is an instant benefit to your company. Young employees will appreciate the convenience of and the file can be printed and registered just like a paper pledge card. Download the electronic pledge card. Focus on the importance of every gift, large and small. Some young donors may be hesitant to give if they believe a small gift won t make a difference. Use our impact calculator or the "What your Contribution Provides" poster to show them how their gift matters. Ask a young employee who donated last year to join your campaign team. His or her personal experience and insight can be an invaluable asset. United Way Campaign Ideas 7

Invite them to join United Way's Facebook group or be a Twitter follower. Embed United Way's RSS feed on your Intranet. If you have a young donor interested in helping with the campaign, consider creating your own free social networking site for your young donors to connect, network and stay in touch with the campaign. Let young employees show their creative side by making short videos (these could be made on most regular digital cameras) about why they choose to donate. These can be posted on your intranet, shown at a rally or posted on YouTube and shared with United Way. Promote participation in GenNext, United Way's young professionals service group, or for those able to give more, the Young Leaders Society. Offer your own volunteering option or special event to involve them. More than 35 percent of young adults have volunteered in the last year; many of your employees may be interested in getting involved beyond their donation. Sign up for a Days of Caring project targeting your young employees. When you send your reminders, include a short interview with a young donor about why giving is important to him or her. Have a young employee special networking event hosted by a young donor volunteer. This could be a simple coffee break one afternoon or, especially if you have multiple locations, a happy hour at a central location that gives employees the opportunity to get to know each other better while learning about United Way. If you have a budget for incentives, include a few items geared toward what is popular with young employees right now, such as itunes gift cards, a Wii gaming system or games, Amazon.com gift certificates or a Netflix subscription. Many companies enjoy engaging retirees in their United Way campaigns. This allows you to stay in contact with this special group of people, while also providing them with meaningful opportunities to engage with our community. Here are a few ideas: Invite them to your kickoff celebration Send them a letter to let them know about the company campaign and how they can contribute Invite them to agency tours or Days of Caring projects Ask if they would like to head up a project or reach out to fellow retirees What are Loyal Contributors? Loyal Contributors are donors who have supported any United Way for 10 years or longer regardless of giving level. United Way Campaign Ideas 8

Benefits of incorporating Loyal Contributors into your campaign: Reaching Loyal Contributors recognizes committed givers regardless of how much they give, which is particularly important for donors who are committed to United Way but are not in a position to give at the Leadership level By identifying long-time supporters, you are also identifying potential volunteers and leaders for your campaign Makes your employees feel appreciated not only by United Way but by your company as well Ways to incorporate and identify Loyal Contributors in your campaign: Invite Loyal Contributors to stand and be recognized at your kickoff Have them sign up through United Way so we can also recognize them List all Loyal Contributors on your company's intranet or company newsletter Ask them to share their story of giving via or during a company event Invite them to sit at a VIP table during your kickoff or thank you event Provide them with a certificate at your thank you event Feature them on a poster that's hung around the office during campaign Hold a recognition ceremony Thank them with a special treat or gift Send a thank-you letter from your CEO to their home United Way Campaign Ideas 9

Every Year: Rally Day: Every Year we kick off the United Way campaign with a Rally Day Event. Each year is a little different but we always have 2 Cardinals Players present to sign autographs. Dodge Ball Event: Every Year one of our big events is a dodgeball tournament. Anyone is able to signup and form a team. Many teams get very competitive and even have made their own uniforms. The winning team has a final battle against an Executive Team (including our CEO Steve Maritz). The link below is a video that was created for the event a couple of years ago. Days of Caring: Maritz has a huge Days of Caring campaign mostly aligned with the dates of our United Way Pledge Campaign. Maritz employees form groups of around 4 10 people and fill out a project request form. Maritz works with United Way to create a specific project for each group request. We have on average 40 groups that form and volunteer for a Days of Caring Event. The projects are 3 hours long and either done in the morning (9 Noon) or in the afternoon (1 4PM). Most projects are done in September and October (around 80%) but a few are scattered in November and December or prior to the campaign. 2010: Completed 41 Days of Caring projects at 21 different agency locations. 2009: Completed 35 Days of Caring projects. 2008: Completed 55 Days of Caring projects at 43 different agency locations.
