FIND OUT WHERE YOUR PROGRAM CAN TAKE YOU The chart on page 11 lists Seneca programs and the schools with which Seneca has transfer agreements. For more details about a specific transfer pathway, turn to the page number indicated. Interested in attending a college or university not listed? Check directly with that school to confirm transfer and admission policies. Students can also visit ontransfer.ca, the Ontario Transfer Guide, for a list of additional pathways available to Ontario college and university degrees. 2. BE INFORMED, ACCESS RESOURCES Research is critical when choosing your educational path. Read through the agreements listed in this guide. Connect with professionals in your intended field of study. Get insights, feedback and referrals from graduates of the program and/or the institution you re considering. Be sure to verify that you meet the program s admission requirements. For information on education credentials, use the links in this guide s Glossary of Terms. 3. APPLY To apply to a Seneca degree, current Seneca students and recent graduates can complete a Diploma to Seneca Degree Pathways Transfer Form, available through Admissions, your academic area, the Degree and Credit Transfer Office or the Office of the Registrar s website. 9 GLOSSARY OF TERMS Recognized Institution in Canada A public or private institution with the authority to grant degrees, diplomas and/or other credentials through a public act of the provincial/territorial legislature or a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. Institution Authorized to Offer Specific Credentials in Canada A public or private institution with limited authority to grant specific degrees, diplomas or other credentials through a government mandated quality assurance mechanism and/or by a private act of the provincial/territorial legislature. For more information on education credentials in Canada, visit cicic.ca For accreditation information on institutions in the United States, visit chea.org Prerequisites Courses necessary to successfully complete before taking specific higher level courses. Bachelor s Degree (Undergraduate Degree) Programs leading to a bachelor s degree generally require 3 or 4 years of full-time study. An honours degree usually involves a higher level of concentration and achievement within the honours subject and may require additional credits. Most undergraduate degrees are comprised of 90 credits (3 years) or 120 credits (4 years). Master s Degree (Graduate Degree) Once an undergraduate degree is completed, a master s degree generally requires at least one year of full-time studies, including a thesis developed through original research, potential practicum or research paper. Note: Depending on the institution and admission requirements, certain MBA programs recommend MBA candidates have at least two years of work experience before applying. Major/Minor A major indicates a specialization with a number of courses drawn from one particular subject area; a minor indicates a lesser degree of specialization, with only a few courses drawn from one particular area. 11 GPA WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Before you begin looking at your degree transfer options, it is important to know your Grade Point Average (GPA).
