1 Tenure-Track Faculty Member (Environmental and Renewable Energy Systems Division, Graduate school of Engineering, Gifu University) 1. Summary Gifu University invites international applications for an assistant professor in the faculty of Engineering, supported by the 2011 budget for the promotion of science and technology. Gifu University keeps its purpose to form a base of advanced research in the field of environment sciences and the field of biological sciences. We are driving force of research activity in the new crossover field, (medicine, engineering, applied biological sciences and veterinary medicine are closely connected.) The faculty of Engineering is the driving force of innovate photovoltaic systems. We have the center of innovate photovoltaic systems for the purpose of development in this field. The professors in these fields have achieved good research s results. And more, they have been awarded in various societies and have obtained various outside funds. To achieve the above aims, a fixed-term assistant faculty member (attending to research mainly) capable of developing unique research topics in specific areas will be recruited. He or She will be given university-wide support in terms of research funds, facilities, and sufficient space to allow him or her to focus on his or her research. At the end of their appointment, he or she may be employed as a tenured faculty member (assistant professor) of the University depending on assessment of his or her research achievements, which will be carried out in the third and the fifth years, respectively 2. Positions available A fixed-term assistant faculty member (attending to research mainly) will be appointed. 3. Invited research areas A fixed-term assistant faculty member (The field of innovate photovoltaic systems) This program is focused on researches and developments concerning a solar photovoltaic power generation which is promising one of clean energy sources for establishing a society with low environmental load. Especially, we have an intention to promote material investigations including new process technologies and the device developments in order to achieve large area & low price thin film solar cells with high efficiency. Also, we emphasize that thin film solar cells should be composed by materials without

2 environmental pollutions and with sustainable supplies on a reserve and an economy. A researcher with high level of skill and capability for developing above mentioned solar cells is appointed. 4. Qualifications required (1) A doctorate (i.e, PhD.) at the time of appointment and the degree must be granted within the past 10 years. (2) Experience in a unique research subject in the above-mentioned research areas and the capability to produce excellent research achievements. (3) Excellent record of research achievements related to the above-mentioned research areas. 5. Scheduled date of appointment December 1, 2011 or later at the possible date. 6. Appointment period The term of appointment will be March 31, 2016 from December 1, Researcher may subsequently be hired as a tenured faculty member (assistant professor) on the basis of his or her research achievements and performance during their period of appointment. 7. Compensation, etc. The salary rules and regulations of Gifu University are applied from the date of appointment. (Around 260,000~ 350,000/month)(The amount of salary depends on one s career.) 8. Working conditions (1) The workplace is the campus of Gifu University. (2) Applicants residing abroad will receive support in securing accommodation. (3) The rules and regulations of Gifu University are applied from the date of appointment. 9. Research environment (1) Research funding of 10 million yen per person will be provided in the first year, and 5 million yen in the next year (4 million yen in third year.). (2)A research space of approximately 50 m2 per person will be provided.

3 (3) The researcher will be assigned two faculty members who will serve as research advisers. Graduated student(s) will be appointed for research assistance. (4) The researcher will be given opportunities in the use of the large equipment and the precision equipment of the University s research facility. 10. Duties Assistant faculty member (attending to research mainly) will mainly engage in research activities in areas of cutting-edge (such as research activities based on the research plan submitted at the time of appointment, the publication of international-level research papers, and presentations at international conferences. ) To foster the ability of researcher to teach and lead students, opportunities to participate in educational activities, such as providing instruction in the fields of expertise and guiding graduate students, will be provided, in preparation for tenured position(therefore, it is to be desired that he or she has the Japanese and the English languages ability.). Research will be made by 70% effort. 11. Appointment as a tenured faculty member The appointment of researcher as a tenured faculty member (assistant professor) will be implemented in the fifth year. An interim assessment will be made in the third year. Assistant faculty member with particularly excellent research achievements in the interim assessment will be appointed as a tenured faculty member (assistant professor) during their period of appointment. When considering the tenure of researcher, a comprehensive assessment will be made on the basis of self-assessment, the contents of written documents, interviews, and open symposiums, etc., by the tenure Screening Committee, which includes internationally active specialists in the University and overseas. For faculty member who do not receive tenure, the University will support his attempts to find alternative employment. 12. Application documents (1) Application form. Selection process Expert committee members specializing in each research area will screen applicant by examining his or her documents and interview to decide on the appointment of researcher. 15.
