8 criteria used for accepting patients to the Community Special Care Dental Service. 9 The Special Care Dental Service (SCDS) provides oral health care for adults, young people and children who need more specialist care than can be provided within the General Dental Services (GDS). The service is for Wandsworth residents who are not currently receiving dental care and who fit one or more of the following categories. They may be referred by health or social care professionals using the referral form. Children: with management problems or challenging behaviour (the referrer must detail on the referral form why the child cannot be seen by an NHS Dental Practice) or complex social needs e.g. children at risk, on the Child Protection Register. Adults and young people: who have physical disabilities resulting in mobility problems which make it difficult or impossible for them to access an NHS Dental Practice,
10 with learning disabilities which make it difficult or impossible for them to access an NHS Dental Practice, with a complex medical history where their medical condition or medication compromises oral health, with a complex medical history where their medical condition or medication necessitates special care before, or during or after dental treatment, management problems or challenging behaviour (the referrer must detail on the referral form why the individual cannot be seen in an NHS Dental Practice) or challenging behaviour resulting from mental health problems. The Special Care Dental Service is only able to provide emergency or urgent care for clients who have previously been accepted for dental care. If you do not have a regular dentist, contact NHS 111 for advice on where you can get urgent care. Emergency dental treatment will deal with the problem at hand and the fee for the treatment is currently You may be advised to make another appointment for a separate course of non-urgent treatment. In this case, you will have to pay a second charge in the relevant treatment band. Transport to Health Services There are various options available for people who may need help with transport to health services.
19 NHS Hospitals provides non-emergency transport by ambulance, mini-bus or taxi. Let your GP know when you make the appointment and let the hospital know if they make further appointments for you. The new mental health services will provide a wide range of treatment for people who are experiencing mild to moderate conditions including depression, anxiety, stress and low mood. The IAPT (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies) NHS service has been awarded by Merton Clinical Commissioning Group. The free and confidential treatment programmes will be available for any resident who is registered with a GP in the London Borough of Merton. People can either visit their GP to be refereed or they can self-refer.
