1 How to Backup Data from (Hard Disk, CD, Flash Memory, VHS Tape, and PC) < Introduction > This tech note is to explain how to backup data from. There are four ways to backup data including external hard disk, flash memory, PC as well as VHS tape. External hard disk and external CD-RW can be connected via IEEE1394, PC can be connected via Network, and flash memory can be connected via USB port. Through IEEE1394 and Network ports, all data (video, audio, log, and text) can be backed up to external device. And through USB port, only video can be copied to the connected external device. 3 1. Backup Data to External Disk/ Memory 1.1. Data Backup to External Hard Disk 1) Connect external HDD to through IEEE1394 port. The HDD should be formatted as FAT32. DS412 & DS800 DS1600 Series External Hard Disk Bay with IEEE1394 (FireWire) Interface 2) Playback recorded data by pressing Play button on the front 3) Data will be played back. 4) Press [COPY] buttons. 5) The following dialog box appears. 4 6) The following dialog window appears 7) Select data for backup - Starting date and time: Designate the starting date and time for the desired data (Image, Audio and Text). - Ending date and time: Designate the ending date and time for the desired data (Image, Audio and Text). - Select Disk: All connected IEEE1394 devices (HDD or CD) will be displayed in this menu. Select the HDD on which data will be stored. HDD will be marked with F. [F] signifies that the connected hard drive (or flash memory) does not have proper file system of SVR This storage should be formatted for file system to record image on it. However supports FAT32 that is compatible with Windows with Backup and Copy menu. Data should be backed up or copied to storage (Hard drive, Flash memory, Smart memory, etc.) of FAT32 format with Backup or Copy menu. It is because backed up or copied image should be played through a PC that is run by Windows. - Move to [START] tab and press [ENTER]. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 4

5 1.2. Data Backup to External CD-RW 1) Power CD-RW and inset a CD in it. The CD should be 700MB and above. 2) Connect external CD-RW to through IEEE1394 port. DS412 & DS800 DS1600 Series External CD-RW with IEEE1394 (FireWire) Interface 3) Playback recorded data by pressing Play button on the front 4) Data will be played back. 5) Press [COPY] buttons. 6) The following dialog box appears. 6 7) The following dialog window appears 8) Select data for backup - Starting date and time: Designate the starting date and time for the desired data (Image, Audio and Text). - Ending date and time: Designate the ending date and time for the desired data (Image, Audio and Text). - Select Disk: All connected IEEE1394 devices (HDD or CD) will be displayed in this menu. Select the CD-RW on which data will be stored. CD-RW will be marked with C. - Move to [START] tab and press [ENTER]. 9) If the selected data is bigger than the CD media size, will ask to insert a new CD to continue backup. Data will be split into several pieces by 600MB. Therefore blank medium should have minimum size of 700MB. For the compatible CD-RW, please refer to the appendix. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 6

7 1.3. Image(Video) Copy to External Memory 1) Connect external memory (Flash memory, Smart Disk, Memory Stick, etc that has a USB connector) to SVR through USB port. The memory should be formatted as FAT32. DS412 & DS800 DS1600 Series External Flash Memory with USB Interface 2) Playback recorded data by pressing Play button on the front 3) Choose a certain channel whose image you want to copy. Copy supports only one channel at once. The shown channel on the screen will be selected to backup. So if you want to select other channels that are not shown on the screen, you may select by pressing the number button on the front. 4) Press [COPY] buttons. 5) The following dialog box appears. 8 6) The following dialog window appears 7) Configure data to copy (1) Time: Designate the length of time (in seconds) for the data copy. The currently displayed image will be the first image copied. Images will continue to copy for the designated length of time. Maximum time length is 60 minutes. (Selectable among 1 sec, 2 sec,, 59 seconds, 1 min, 2 min,, and 60 min) (2) Select Disk: All the connected IEEE1394 HDD or USB Flash Memory will be displayed in this menu. Select the desired Flash Memory or HDD on which to copy images. External memory designated for [Copy] will be marked with F. (3) Move to [START] tab and press [ENTER]. <Note> Data Backup and Copy [Copy] is similar to [Backup], but the target data and length are different. In addition, copied data contains an executable playback program inside the device. Copied images can be viewed without installing the Manager program because Playback is included with the images. However, [Backup] does not include the Playback program, so SVR Manager should be installed on a PC to playback the backup data. [Copy] is to copy and paste images of a single channel that are up to 1 hour or less in length. [Backup] is to copy and paste data (image, audio and text) from all channel and it has no time limitation. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 8

9 2. Backup Data to PC 1) Install SVR Manager to a PC and set SVR Manager to access from the PC. 2) Access through Playback program of SVR Manager. 3) Click on Backup button. 4) Select desired channel and time duration of data to backup. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 9

10 5) Name the backup file and click on start button. Then Backup Utility program backs up designated data to configured directory of the PC. Start button toggles between Start and Stop. 6) When the process is completed, click on OK button on the pop-up screen. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 10

11 3. Playback Backup Data on PC 3.1. With SVR Manager Following steps are applied to all types of backup files that are backed up to external HDD, external memory, or PC. 1) Install SVR Manager to a PC. 2) Connect backup media to the PC. 3) Find a desired backup file to playback. 4) Double click on the file. 5) SVR Manager Playback program appears and shows backup data on the PC With Mini Player Only copied images are compatible with Mini-Player. And Mini Player is a program that is not need to install into a PC. 1) Connect Flash memory to the PC. 2) Find Mini Player icon from the PC. 3) Activate the program by double-clicking on the icon. 12 4) Select the copied file to open. 5) Copied images are displayed on the player without installing the program on the PC. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 12

13 4. Backup Video to VHS Tape 1) Connect VCR to Connect to video output port of S-VIDEO 2) Search and playback video data from. 3) Set the VCR to record. 4) Video that is displayed on the CCTV monitor will be identically recorded on VHS tape. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 13

14 5. Appendix Compatible CD-RW 5.1. External CD-RW Samsung Techwin has not tested following models yet. Judging from their specs, we may tell the following models will be compatible with. However, it is recommended to check if any model to buy requires installing its own drive (not the CD burning program) to run on the computer. 15 5.2. Internal CD-RW with external enclosure of IEEE Internal CD-RW Samsung Techwin has tested following models of internal CD-RW by installing into an external case that has an IEEE1394 port. And it is also recommended to check if the model requires any special drive requires to be installed or not. LG Samsung Plextor Yamaha External Enclosure of IEEE 1394 User may also purchase any following model and an external enclosure and assemble them into a piece. The enclosure should support UDMA5 (100M). Any enclosure supporting UDMA2(33M) is not compatible with internal CD-RW. Samsung Techwin. Co.,Ltd 15
