4 Chapter1. Network Recorder Overview 1.1. Introduction The Network Recorder is a digital data recording and archiving system solution that receives video, audio and alarm log from network cameras and video servers from multiple sites in real time Features The Network Recorder program does not limit the number of units that can be registered. The program simultaneously records up to 32 video and audio channels. User can map 32 channels from registered units (network cameras and video servers) to 32 virtual channels of the program. Once assigned with video channels, the program runs like a regular DVR. User may configure recording parameters and schedule more flexibly than DVRs. Any sensor or relay can be assigned to any video channel. The program manages remote users and local users independently. Administrator can also assign different rights to users. The program does not limit the number the registered users. The program supports scheduling of recorded data with different parameters by days and hours of the week. Administrator can create normal and alarm recording mode with different rates, resolutions, and recording qualities. Administrator can select any or all events for sensor signal input, motion detection, and video signal loss. The program supports pre- and post-alarm for up to 60 seconds. The program records, searches and transmits data over the network Configuration The Network Recorder package contains the main unit and its components as specified below. When you purchase the unit, please check to ensure the components specified below are included. If any components are missing, please contact your local vendor. NOTE: The client computer must be on the same subnet or network segment as the Iomega NAS. 3. The registration application should open automatically. Register your Iomega NAS system by following the on-screen instructions. When the Solutions CD menu appears, select Iomega NAS Discovery Utility. Select Click to Open to run the software. NOTE: If the software doesn't run automatically, click the CD icon in My Computer, then double click the Start icon. 4. The Iomega NAS Discovery software will list all discovered Iomega NAS servers. NOTE: See Troubleshooting if Iomega NAS Discovery does not find your Iomega NAS. NOTE: By default, the Iomega NAS is set to obtain its IP address from a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. Click on the IOMEGANAS-xxxxx name and then the Manage button. If your network has a DHCP server running, the Iomega NAS will obtain its IP address from the DHCP server and launch the NAS management utility. 5. If your network does not have a DHCP server, UNKNOWN will appear in the status column of the Iomega NAS Discovery utility. Click on the Manage button to enter the appropriate IP address and subnet mask. NOTE: Numbers are for example only. Please enter an IP address and subnet mask appropriate for your network 46

47 6. If you don't know what IP addresses to use, click on the Auto Detect button and the server will search the network for an available address for you. Enter the password, ADMIN (uppercase) is the factory default, and click the APPLY button. Note For more detailed information, please refer to the manual on the provided CD from Iomega Co. Adding a network drive to PC 1. Select a network drive in the Iomega NAS Discovery list and click Map Drive button on the top. 2. Name the drive in Map Network Drive window. 3. Click Finish button. Once added as a network drive, PC can access the drive and write data on it over the network. 47
