3 Developing training in cooperation with the world of work Work-based learning in VET is the core of the training activities The advisory board of the educational institution is the most important form of cooperation in implementing regional educational plans improving the quality of training making training cooperation plans generating ideas for projects developing the world of work teacher representatives, employer and employee representatives in advisory boards Educational institutions together develop education in many different projects E-learning and simulation as examples Together VET and workplace: foresee training needs and offering, develop educational activities, share good practices and organise events and seminars

5 Learning by doing The methodology in VET: contact teaching, on-the-job learning, guided distant education, E-studies and independent studies On-the-job learning refers to learning the knowledge and skills needed in the working life in authentic workplace contexts with workplace instructor On-the-job learning is always goal-oriented, instructed and evaluated activity and it supports the theoretical competence and advances the student in employmency natio0nal or irntrnational periods Various study methods support learning at work: Acquiring knowledge and skills, analysing information, having conversations and making practical applications Development of researching skills, analysing ability and critical touch at work individual study paths, instruction and work-based activities

7 Apprenticeship on the rise There are students in VET in Finland 10% study with apprenticeship training Popularity of apprenticeship training grows In average, 80% of the learning takes place at the workplace Competence develops in conditions and in the work tasks that are characteristic and particular to the real workplace Vocational qualification certificate of apprenticeship training gives the (same) right to apply to further higher education Apprenticeship training is a good channel to employment
