1 New Features and Changes in Version 3.1 Avaya Converged Network Analyzer, Version 3.1 Release Notes These release notes support the application software version 3.1 for the Avaya Converged Network Analyzer (CNA). Unless explicitly stated otherwise, all references to CNA apply to Converged Network Analyzer 3.1. The contents of this Release Note are as follows: New Features and Changes in Version 3.1 Supported Platforms Supported Browsers and Operating Systems Fixes in Version 3.1 Known Issues in CNA 3.1 Upgrade Requirements CNA 3.1 Documentation Contacting Avaya Technical Support New Features and Changes in Version 3.1 CNA 3.1 is the successor release to CNA The following features are new in CNA 3.1: 1. RoHS compliant hardware platform The IBM xseries 306m (x306m) device is compatible with the CNA software release. The x306m device include a single power supply and enough CPU and memory capacity to support the majority of enterprise deployments. The x306m device is compliant with the European Union (EU) directives on Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). For more information regarding the x306m, see the CNA Installation Guide, Version Additional hardware platforms The CNA 3.1 release supports two additional hardware platforms: Dell PowerEdge 850 (PowerEdge 850) Hewlett Packard DL320 (DL320) For more information on supported platforms, see Supported Platforms. 3. Improved Web UI The control panel of the Web UI displays simplified real-time graph titles. Issue 1 June

Revised terms Beginning in this release, the term CNA Agent is now used for all instances of the embedded agent software running on a remote device. The term CNA Agent replaces references to the term TestPlug in the Command Line Interface (CLI), command outputs, and general references throughout the documentation. The term for the remote device running CNA Agent software, is the CNA Agent Device. Compatible devices Specific devices and the corresponding firmware/software versions that include compatible CNA platforms are listed in Table 1. Please ensure that incompatible devices and versions do not register with the CNA server, as those configurations have not been tested and may result in unexpected behavior within the devices or within CNA itself. Use the commands show testplug and show statistics chapld testplug to check which devices are registered with CNA and their respective types and versions.! Important: Important: When one or more Avaya 4600 series IP phones are part of a CNA agent deployment, the maximum number of CNA agents in the deployment must total no more than 64. This restriction should be removed in a future release Supported Platforms CNA 3.1 software supports a number of IBM eserver xseries rackmount server platforms, the Avaya S8500C, the HP ProLiant DL320 G4, and the Dell PowerEdge 850. Specific model and configuration requirements are listed in Table 2. Issue 1 June

Important: Important: The official End-of-Life date for all RouteScience PathControl 3000 and 5000 series hardware platforms will be December 31st, After that time, no new ANS6 software maintenance releases or hardware maintenance contracts will be made available. An upgrade program is in place to migrate RouteScience PathControl customers to current IBM xseries rackmount servers. The show hive command displays the following information: the members of the hive the members connectivity status. the time since startup of chatter server the embedded cna-agent on each member Display CNA Agent Rate Limit The show cna-agent measurement command was implemented. The show cna-agent measurement command show the number of requests that have been sent to each agent and what the response results were. 1 of 4 Issue 1 June

The show chatter cna-agent-device information command displays information about the stand-alone CNA Agent Devices in your agent-based measurement network. Fingerprint Displays the SSH fingerprints for CNA Agent Devices. The CNA server generates the fingerprints and uses them to establish SSH connections with CNA Agent Devices. Log Displays the contents of the syslog file from CNA Agent Devices. Information Displays the device s status of registration with a CNA server, date and time of registration, and software version number. If the CNA agent-device is not registered to the CNA server requesting the information, no information can be obtained. This information can help the user and Avaya field personnel diagnose some of the issues that they might experience when the CNA agent-device fails the agent-based measurement tests. Pink is not displayed. This release offers a more usable topology that allows more control of node positioning. Resolved in CNA 3.1. Two platforms were added: the Avaya 8500C and the IBM x306m. Both platforms are RoHS compliant. For more information, see Supported Platforms. To support the x306m, auto detection controls were added to the installation process. For more information, see the CNA Installation Guide. The existing CNA Agent Device rear label was modified to meet RoHS compliance. Resolved in CNA 3.1. In this release, the term for the remote device running CNA Agent software, is the CNA Agent Device. This term is used in the command outputs and throughout the documentation. Resolved in CNA 3.1. The SMTP server that is defined in the Web UI for must be one that is accessible from the WebUI Client. The SMTP Server defined in the CLI for chatter alarms must be one that is accessible to the CNA Server. In some cases, these servers may be different and can cause either function ( from the Web UI or chatter alarms) to fail. The number of SNMP agents limit has been removed. 11 Known Issues in CNA 3.1 Known Issues in CNA 3.1 The following tables list all known issues and workarounds for the CNA 3.1 release. In Table 5 lists all the configuration known issues and workarounds. Table 5: Configuration Known Issues and Workarounds Reference Number Configuration Issue Workaround 5551 (R3.0) Unable to access management or enter commands during restore. The restore process can be quite resource intensive. Please allow the restore process to complete (R3.0) Traceroute holes cause major data loss. The topo map can incorrectly show "greyed out" links. The data from the show cell command provides the necessary RTP or ping test data. This means the data is available; however, the data is from a less-readable display of zone-to-zone measurement data SAMP cards cause server to spontaneously shut down. If the Avaya S8500C servers is shipped with a SAMP card, which is a PCI device that monitors the server's health and allows remote modem access if the server's Ethernet ports fail. The SAMP card also has the authority to reboot and power off the server if necessary.! WARNING: WARNING: An Avaya S8500C CNA server should NOT use this card. It will cause the server to shut down multiple times per day without warning or apparent cause. If the customer receives a server with a SAMP card, have them remove it. 1 of 2 Issue 1 June

The x306m device purchased from IBM auto-detects the SATA drives as IDE drives. Perform the following standard BIOS setting change to devices purchased from IBM only. For the BIOS setting change procedure, see the Avaya Converged Network Analyzer, Version Release Notes Edge Coloring Not Working in Topology Display. Pink is not displayed The configuration command module efc application no-detection user-defined is not effective across efc-server or CNA restarts. If the topology display is not showing all the colors that it should, do the following: Windows users Check the desktop properties to make sure that the display is set to 32- bit color. Java users Set the Java control panel to disable caching to prevent problems like this. Use the module efc application no-detection user-defined command after every efc-server restart or dmaker restart. 2 of 2 12 Converged Network Analyzer, Release Notes 3.1

13 Known Issues in CNA 3.1 Table 6 lists all the endpoint flow collection (EFC) known issues and workarounds. Table 6: Endpoint Flow Collection (FEFC) Known Issues and Workarounds Reference Number EFC Issue Workaround 6898 (R3.0) Jumbo Frames (larger than 1541 bytes) not supported on EFC Monitor. Current EFC drivers do not support Jumbo frames. Such frames could be generated by devices with Gigabit Ethernet devices No error message when issuing no efc bytes top command that may cause a license violation. If your environment includes Jumbo frames, make certain to set appropriate MTU for Ethernet interfaces to prevent the jumbo frames from being propagated onto unsupported links. At this time, there is not workaround for this issue. There will be no error message displayed when using the no efc bytes top command, and the license will go into grace period. Table 7 lists all the engine known issues and workarounds. Table 7: Engine Known Issues and Workarounds Reference Number Engine Issue Resolution 9655 (R3.0) If an association with an SNMP agent is un-configured, polls can continue. If a defined SNMP agent is no longer needed, delete the SNMP agent. Table 8 lists all the reporting known issues and workarounds. Table 8: Reporting Known Issues and Workarounds Reference Number Reporting Issue Resolution 6907 (R3.0) Spurious java installation error on XP/IE 6. The following error message has been observed during Java JRE installation on some XP/IE6 machines: Kernal.exe Application error The instruction at 0x771c741a" referenced memory at "0x001633f0". the memory could not be "read". Click on ok to terminate program. This error appears to be entirely spurious, and normal program functionality is observed after continuing. Issue 1 June

Table 9: Management Known Issues and Workarounds Reference Number Management Issue Resolution 9353 (R3.0) Ctrl-C on console during boot process causes error + system unresponsive. In some cases, entering <ctrl>-c on the console port during the boot sequence may cause unintended system problems that prevent the system initialization process from completing. Note that under some conditions, the system initialization process may take a significantly longer time. Please be patient. Allow the system to fully complete the initialization process. DON T try to interrupt with <ctrl>-c on the console port. Please contact Avaya support if there are any questions. Table 10 lists all the Web UI known issues and workarounds. Table 10: Web UI Known Issues and Workarounds Reference Number Web UI Issue Workaround Avaya CNA Applet window support link failure This is caused by the popup ad blocker in IE 6. There are 2 solutions: 1. When the user clicks on the support link, IE 6 shows the popup being blocked and when the user right clicks on the popup blocker icon, one of the options shown to the user is "Do not block popups from this site" The the support page will be displayed. 2. In the browser, go to the following menu: Tools/Popup Blocker/popup Blocker Settings... If you are upgrading from an older version of RSOS, please follow the directions included in Appendix C, Upgrade Process, in the CNA Appendices Guide.
