Overview FTMS is comprised of FTMS Server and two user interfaces -- the Application Client and the Java Applet Client. FTMS Server is the application that manages the network, and you can install it on the following systems: FTMS Server Hardware Requirements Operating System Processor Type Processor Speed Memory Disk Space Required (Install) Disk Space Required (Execute) Windows NT4 Pentium 4 2 GHz or higher 2 GB 500 MB 500 MB (additional) /2000/XP/Server 2003 Solaris 5.7, 5.8, 5.9 Ultra 5 2 GHz or higher 2 GB 500 MB 500 MB (additional) Linux Red Hat 9.0, 8.0, 7.2 Pentium 4 2 GHz or higher 2 GB 500 MB 500 MB (additional) Tested Operating Systems Windows XP Professional (Version SP2) Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition + SP2 Cent OS release 4.4. (Final) SunOS 5.8 AdventNet WebNMS (the core of FTMS) has been tested on: Red Hat Linux 9.0, 8.0, 7.2 and ES 4.0, 3.0 & 2.1, AS 4.0, 3.0 & 2.1 and Fedora Core 4 Solaris 10, 2.9, 2.8, 2.7 Windows 2000, 2003, XP 5.1, 2000, NT4 IBM AIX Node Manager Node Manager is both a standalone application and a component of FTMS Server. It can also be installed as a component of HP OpenView. See the Node Manager online help or Force10 Node Manager Guide for details on installation with HP OpenView. Node Manager provides the detailed device view and management. As a standalone application, you can install Node Manager on the following systems: Microsoft Windows: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP or later Intel Pentium III 733 MHz 512 MB RAM 55 MB disk space 1024 x 768 pixels screen resolution (1280 x 1024 is best) Installation Guide for FTMS and Node Manager
Solaris: SunOS 5.8 or later Solaris SPARC Architecture 128 MB RAM 85 MB disk space 1024 x 768 pixels screen resolution (1280 x 1024 is best) Linux: Red Hat Linux 7.3 or later Intel x86 Architecture 128 MB RAM 82 MB disk space 1024 x 768 pixels screen resolution (1280 x 1024 is best) User Interfaces The FTMS Application Client can be installed on the same system running FTMS Server or on another system running Linux, Microsoft Windows, or Solaris. The Java Applet Client of FTMS is a Java-based product and is, therefore, supported on any computer in your network that supports a Java-enabled Web browser, including all flavors of Solaris, Linux and Windows. When you first point your Web browser to the system running FTMS Server, UI components will be downloaded to the client system that enable essentially the same functionally as the Application Client, although probably interacting with FTMS Server somewhat more slowly. Login Note: When you first log in to either of the clients, you are required to enter the default ID and password of root and public. You are then required to change the password. The required password must be complex, including several types of characters, such as lower-case, upper-case, numeral, and special characters. Any time you change the password, the change is for both clients. The Node Manager user interface is integrated into Node Manager and, therefore, launches when you launch Node Manager, either in standalone mode or when it launches as a component of FTMS Server or HP OpenView. License Keys FTMS requires that you enter a license key on first launch. The license key determines the number of ports that you have permission to manage. Note: Previous versions based the license key on number of nodes (devices). If the license key is not included on the product CD-ROM, download it from the Force10 Networks website, as described on the printed Certificate of Purchase included with the product CD-ROM. The license does not expire. Installation Guide for FTMS and Node Manager
Node Manager is installed as part of the FTMS installation, but it can also be purchased separately. Starting with Node Manager 1.6.0, if you purchase Node Manager separately, a license will be included with the product CD-ROM, which you enter on first launch. Installing and Operating Upgrading FTMS: Generally, you can upgrade over an existing instance of FTMS. However, for more reliable results, you should consider installing in a new location rather than upgrading over an existing instance of FTMS. On the other hand, if you used the default MySQL database with FTMS or 1.4.0, you can invoke the Database Migration Tool included with FTMS to migrate your MySQL data into FTMS In that case, you should not remove the older version of FTMS before installing FTMS Uninstalling: Double-click the Uninstall FTMS icon on the desktop (or from the Programs menu in Windows, depending on where you elected to place the program launch files), and then reboot your system when instructed. Verify that all FTMS program icons and files in the FTMS home directory are removed. Check the FTMS Caveats and FTMS FAQ for notes about cleaning up related databases and removing related files. Similarly, you would use the Uninstall FTMS Application Client icon when replacing earlier versions of that application. SNMP Note: You must enable SNMP on any switch that you want FTMS to manage or to display on the device map. For details on enabling SNMP, see the configuration guide for the switch or see the Installation chapter in the Force10 Node Manager Guide. Using the Installation Wizard: The installation programs present you with a series of dialog boxes that prompt you for information about your installation. Read the information in these dialog boxes carefully. You move through the installation by clicking the Next and Previous buttons; the Cancel button terminates the installation. This guide provides the FTMS and standalone Node Manager installation and launch sequence for the Windows, Linux, and Solaris operating systems. You can also read about the standalone Node Manager installation in the Force10 Node Manager Guide, which is available on the product CD- ROM as a PDF. Windows Installing FTMS Note for Microsoft Windows Server 2003, NT, 2000 (other than XP): Before installing FTMS, you must set the Compatibility Mode to Windows XP on the FTMS install.exe. The Apache binary, which comes bundled with our product, requires certain shared objects. This binary is built for Solaris 8 and 9. For FTMS to work on Solaris 7, build Apache as explained in the 3rd section, Building and Installing Apache The following libraries are not part of the core Solaris package and are required by httpd for Solaris 8 and 9: libdb-4.1.so => /usr/local/lib/libdb-4.1.so libiconv.so.2 => /usr/local/lib/libiconv.so.2 libsendfile.so.1 => /usr/lib/libsendfile.so.1 If these files are missing, install them using the procedure in the Installation of Dependencies section and set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. You can check for the presence of the above libraries using the ldd command, as shown below. cd <FTMS_HOME> Set the Environment using the following command: $../setenv.sh cd <FTMS_HOME>/apache/bin Installation Guide for FTMS and Node Manager
Make sure that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set if any of these packages is already installed in the system. $ldd httpd libaprutil-0.so.0 => libdb-4.1.so => libexpat.so.0 => libiconv.so.2 => libapr-0.so.0 => libsendfile.so.1 librt.so.1 => libm.so.1 => libsocket.so.1 => libnsl.so.1 => libresolv.so.2 => libdl.so.1 => libpthread.so.1 => libc.so.1 => libaio.so.1 => libmp.so.2 => libthread.so.1 => /FTMS/apache/lib/libaprutil-0.so.0 /usr/local/lib/libdb-4.1.so (If this file does not exist, not found will be displayed here.) /FTMS/apache/lib/libexpat.so.0 /usr/local/lib/libiconv.so.2 (If this file does not exist, not found will be displayed here.) /FTMS/apache/lib/libapr-0.so.0 /usr/lib/libsendfile.so.1 (If this file does not exist, not found will be displayed here.) /usr/lib/librt.so.1 /usr/lib/libm.so.1 /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1 /usr/lib/libnsl.so.1 /usr/lib/libresolv.so.2 /usr/lib/libdl.so.1 /usr/lib/libpthread.so.1 /usr/lib/libc.so.1 /usr/lib/libaio.so.1 /usr/lib/libmp.so.2 /usr/lib/libthread.so.1 /usr/platform/sunw,ultra-5_10/lib/libc_psr.so.1 2. Installation of Dependencies: 1. libdb-4.1.so. BerkeleyDB $gunzip db nc.tar.gz $tar -xvf db nc.tar $cd db nc $cd build_unix $../dist/configure -prefix=<berkeley DB HOME> $make $make install 2. libiconv.so.2 libiconv tar.gz $./configure --prefix=/usr/local $ make Installation Guide for FTMS and Node Manager
$ make install 3. libsendfile.so.1 libsendfile.so.1 is part of the core Solaris package from Solaris 9. libsendfile.so.1 is also required by apache2 in Solaris 8. To install this file, patch code from Solaris should be installed: This patch requires installing some additional patches before (see the details in the page). Set the library path, pointing to the required shared objects. For example: $LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:<Berkeley DB HOME/lib> $export LD_LIBRARY_PATH $echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH Execute ldd on httpd after running setenv.sh, as above. If any of the.so resource is still missing, check the Library path. If the ldd command still shows that any files are missing, build the Apache sources using the procedure in the following section. 3. Building and Installing Apache : Apache (httpd tar.gz) Run the following commands over the file (httpd tar.gz): $ gunzip httpd tar.gz $ tar -xvf httpd tar.gz You will get the "httpd " directory. Go to "httpd " and run the following commands to install Apache $./configure --prefix=<apache HOME> $ make $ make install where <APACHE HOME> = directory where Apache is to be installed (provide the absolute path) (e.g. APACHE HOME=/FTMS/apache/). The above commands install Apache. Launching FTMS on Solaris This version of FTMS requires a default User ID, Password and Key License to launch FTMS. All of these elements, except the license key file, are provided in this version. The license key file is provided by Force10 upon request. Launch FTMS from the shortcut icon selected above.
