1 Coaches Course Level One Information, Educational Approach and Content

2 United World Wrestling Academy The Wrestling Academy aims to support the development of the sport through competency-based programmes and creates highly trained and knowledgeable personnel. The Academy brings together those genuinely interested individuals who wish to coach, teach and practice wrestling. Establishing quality-assured training processes will then produce skilled Educators to then teach these specialized courses and continue the growth of the sport worldwide. Wrestling Academy Framework The Wrestling Academy Framework consists of a generic introduction followed by three strands of workforce development: Strand 1: Coach education A programme of online modules and face to face courses from Level 1 (beginner level coach) to Level 3 (international level coach) Strand 2: Officials education A programme of online modules and faceto-face courses for referees and technical officials Strand 3: Management education A programme of governance and event management development modules and courses. Wrestling Coaches Education Pathway The United World Wrestling education pathway for coaches was developed with The International Sport Coaching Framework in mind. This is an adaptable platform for providing a common language and set of principles about coaching on which the worldwide sport community can agree. Created by organizations aimed at coaches education, as well as the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), the Framework represents a significant step toward establishing consensus on the Sport coaching definition and primary functions of a coach Roles and responsibilities of a coach in athlete development qualifications, an minimum standards about knowledge and core competences needed for coaching effectively Methods by which coaches are educated, developed and certified

3 Based on the roles related with coaching in sports, the following levels for coach education were developed: Course Levels and specific, progressive coaching roles United World Wrestling Level 1 United World Wrestling Level 2 United World Wrestling Level 3 Educational approach Coaching Course Level 1 NF of Barbados (August 17 th to 25 th 2015) Competency-based education (or personalized learning) is an approach to teaching and learning concrete skills than abstract learning. Every individual skill/learning outcome is called a competency. Learners work on small groups of competencies at a time, which is likely a small component of a larger learning goal. The student is evaluated based on which skills are competent. The main technique to be used during the course is called MICRO-TEACHING. It is a training technique whereby the educators review short pieces of coaches delivering.

4 Micro lessons are a great opportunity to present sample "snapshots" of what/how you teach and to get some feedback from colleagues about how it was. The common structure of a micro-teaching session is as follows: The experimental coach teaches a small group of peers/audience, while the educator takes notes. For review after each teaching section, the teacher reviews interacting with the peers. The experimental coach is asked to self-reflect about her/his performance, makes correction where necessary in order to improve and re-teach in upcoming sessions. Coaching Course Level one Georgia NF (November 23th to 30th 2014) Micro-Teaching is a chance to try teaching strategies that the coach may not use regularly, as well as providing a safe time to experiment with something new and get feedback on technique. United World Wrestling Educators The coaching courses of United World Wrestling are delivered by licenced Educators, this figure replaces the former called experts or instructors who delivered in a lecturing style. The Profile of those who has been licenced as United World Wrestling Coaches Educators demands: Speaks at least 1 of the United World Wrestling official languages Presentation and interpersonal skills Must have had some experience of presenting information to groups (e.g. teaching) Must be open-minded, adaptable to change, welcomes feedback and willing to self-reflect Adopt an interactive rather than lecturing approach Have a genuine interest in wanting to develop coaches Have appropriate wrestling knowledge, skills and experience to be able to deliver specific courses Coaching Course Level one Bosnia-Herzegovina NF (March 22th to 28th 2015)

5 Coaches Course Level 1 Features: Focused on HOW TO COACH based on coaching competencies relate with safety and promotion of the sport among new practitioners, developing the key elements of the fundamental wrestling movements. Length of the course: 40 hours (standard full 5 days) Competency-based, theoretical & practical exam Mandatory Ratio Educator:Participants 1:15 Contents: Roles and responsibilities of the coach: Safety & Risk assessment (at training, at competition), making wrestling fun, dealing with young people and parents, Code of Ethics, Anti-doping campaigns promotion. Development Projects and Programmes run by United World Wrestling Coaching skills: Organization of the class, Communication, Physical Skills, Technical Skills Fundamental technical development: Standing Position - Stance (Square; Lead Leg) - Motion (Lateral; Forward; Backward; Level Change; Penetration Step) - Grips (Padlock; Wrists; Elbow) - Control (Collar Tie; Wrist Tie; 2 on 1; Underhook) - Standing Attack Techniques (Takedowns & Go behind, Single and Double leg, Front Head Lock, Head Lock Takedown). - Standing Defence (Leg attacks, Front Head Lock, Throws) Par-Terre position - Starting positions (On top attack: Parallel, Perpendicular; Bottom defence). - Fall Techniques and Drills (Half nelson, Far arm turnover, arm bar) & Pin Drills (linked with standing and par-terre). Examination Process Practical exam (coaching competencies) 60% Theory exam (40 questions about fundamental knowledge of wrestling) 40% The Candidate must have 60/100 overall to obtain the diploma Mandatory full attendance no exceptions.

6 Certification Dual branded certificates will be produced demonstrating the National Federation and United World Wrestling logo. These certificates will be sent electronically as PDFs and sent to the NF that delivered the course.
