Region Chair Name: Nicole Kent Region Name and Number: Northwest Region 8 Mission: NACADA promotes student success by advancing the field of academic advising globally. We provide opportunities for professional development, networking, and leadership for our diverse membership. NACADA Strategic Goal(s) (List strategic goal(s) to which the outcome is related) Create an environment within the Association that promotes diversity. Specific Desired Outcome (What you want to occur as a result of your efforts; what you want someone to know, do, or value) As a result of implementation of an intentional outreach plan, engagement with colleagues from two-year colleges (particularly Tribal Colleges) will increase. Actions/Activities/ Opportunities for Outcome to Occur (What processes need to be in place, or activities need to occur, to achieve desired outcome) Identify a colleague from a two-year institution to serve as a consultant/advisor. Consult with Steering Committee to create an action plan for increased outreach to two-year institutions. Outcome Measurements & Related Data Instrument(s) (How you will specifically measure for the outcome and any instruments you will specifically use e.g. survey, focus group) Progress toward Achieving Outcome (Only completed in Aug. reporting) *Include Revised Completion Date(s) if Applicable Peggy Sharp, North Seattle College, served on the R8 Steering Committee budget included $1500 to increase engagement with Tribal colleges and two-year schools. WA state reps planned a road-trip to visit seven two-year schools, giving a presentation about NACADA at each stop. Future Action(s) Based on Data (Data-informed decisions) (Only completed in Aug. reporting) *Include Target Date(s) for Actions to be Completed Peggy Sharp moved to a fouryear school recently, leaving the R8 Steering Committee without a representative from a two-year school. We ll be recruiting for that role in our next election cycle. Assuming availability of funds, earmark a portion Two individuals from Tribal Colleges We may repeat this effort in the 2016 budget allocating funds to
of region budget for complimentary one-year NACADA memberships to new members from two-year institutions. Collaborate with WAAC (Washington Academic Advising Coalition), an organization of advisors from two-year institutions, on plans and programming for the 2016 Seattle conference. received membership, registration, and travel support to attend the 2015 R8 conference. Conversations are ongoing with WAAC and the 2016 Seattle planning committee. Seattle conference also includes a twoyear school track and a diversity track for presentations. One Pre-Conference session and four concurrent sessions at the 2015 Regional Conference were given by attendees from twosupport membership, conference attendance, and state/province outreach. Ongoing Seattle 2016 will be an excellent opportunity to collaborate with WAAC. We hope this will build a relationship that will continue beyond the 2016 conference. 2 Track number of Region 8 members from two-year institutions. Track number colleagues from two-year institutions attending regional conference, submitting proposals, applying for awards, participating on committees, etc. From 8/14 to 7/15, R8 membership from twoyear schools is up by 31 people (a 21% increase) Regional Conference hosted 86 attendees from twoyear schools (22% of the total attendees). Six presentation proposals for the 2015 Regional Conference came from members at two-year schools. We will continue this tracking in 2016 as it will be beneficial to have multiple years of data.
year schools. A twoyear school track has been established for the 2016 Regional Conference to increase this number. 3 One regional award recipient (Institutional Administrator) from a two-year school. One regional conference scholarship recipient from a two-year school. Reporting Due Dates: Columns 1 through 4 are to be completed by November 1 each year; columns 5 and 6 are to be completed by August 15 each year. THESE REPORTS WILL BE SENT TO COUNCIL REPS, and others as requested each year.
Region Chairs Goals and Outcomes Report Form First 4 columns are to be completed by Nov 1 and submitted Last 2 columns are to be completed by Aug 15 and submitted. Region Chair Name: Nicole Kent Region Name and Number: Northwest Region 8 Mission: NACADA promotes student success by advancing the field of academic advising globally. We provide opportunities for professional development, networking, and leadership for our diverse membership. NACADA Strategic Goal(s) (List strategic goal(s) to which the outcome is related) Provide professional development opportunities that are responsive to the needs of advisors and advising administrators. Specific Desired Outcome (What you want to occur as a result of your efforts; what you want someone to know, do, or value) Actions/Activities/ Opportunities for Outcome to Occur (What processes need to be in place, or activities need to occur, to achieve desired outcome) State/Province liaisons will coordinate with local associations (if any) to plan and execute local advising symposiums. Outcome Measurements & Related Data Instrument(s) (How you will specifically measure for the outcome and any instruments you will specifically use e.g. survey, focus group) Execution of state/provincebased advising symposiums and analysis of feedback from those events. Progress toward Achieving Outcome (Only completed in Aug. reporting) Future Action(s) Based on Data (Data-informed decisions) (Only completed in Aug. reporting) As a result of outreach across the wide geographical area encompassed by Region 8, we will provide professional development opportunities closer to our members. Idaho Advising Symposium 9/11/15 Montana Drive-In Conference 9/18/15 British Columbia Symposium 11/9/15 Alberta Symposium 11/20/15 We will continue to support these state/province events (up to $500 each) as allowed by NACADA. Steering Committee members will be encouraged to consider additional methods of engaging advisors in their areas (e.g. visits, webinars, memberships, outreach, etc.) Promote the 2015 regional conference in northern Idaho to draw in colleagues from Montana and Alberta. Track number of new or firsttime conference attendees at the 2015 regional conference in Idaho (particularly those from the eastern part of our region). First-Time attendees at 2015 Regional Conference numbered 143 (36% of total attendance). Those included three new attendees from Alberta, and eight new attendees from Montana. Track again in 2016 as Seattle is likely to have high attendance (and a higher new-member rate). Region Chair can send follow-up outreach to new members to solidify participation.
2 Secure a notable keynote for the Regional Conference (as a big name presenter is often key to Canadian colleagues securing travel funding). Review 2015 Idaho conference comments related to keynote speaker keynotes were Dr. Charlie Nutt and Michael Benitez Jr. Both were excellent, receiving the highest approval on evaluations. Dr. Nutt suggested that Mr. Benitez be contracted to keynote the 2016 NACADA Conference in Atlanta. This was very effective in boosting conference attendance and providing a high quality conference experience. The 2016 Seattle committee has nearly secured keynotes of similar caliber. Add a Yukon Territory liaison to the Steering Committee. Jo Stewart, Yukon College, joined the R8 Steering Committee in March 2015 as our first Yukon Territory representative. Share information (through regional communication channels) about opportunities for involvement in NACADA. Track progress of nonconference events around the region (webinars, drive-ins, membership giveaways, etc.) to determine if allocations of Region 8 budget surplus is effective in promoting NACADA participation beyond conference attendance. Non-conference activities R8 include the state/province events listed above as well as the Washington Liaisons road-trip to two-year colleges in their state. An Oregon Advising Association is being formed, and should hold their first event in R8 blog/facebook/twitter are active with announcements and information-sharing. Region Chair messages to membership (and via blog/facebook/twitter) on a regular basis perhaps twice per year. Encourage strong R8 participation in fall webinar by Nova (Schauss) Fergueson and Kerry Thomas, R8 members. Support formation of Oregon Advising Association and the first province events in British Columbia.
Reporting Due Dates: Columns 1 through 4 are to be completed by November 1 each year; columns 5 and 6 are to be completed by August 15 each year. THESE REPORTS WILL BE SENT TO COUNCIL REPS, and others as requested each year. 3
