3 The web of IT grows ever more complex - IT Operations Management has never been simple, but in the last few years the challenge of providing a quality service to the organization has become exponentially more complex, and t. The world of NEW IT is upon us, where the services expected from IT are no longer standard and the supporting platforms are no longer exclusively in the IT basement; they are in the cloud, outsourced and mobile. In addition, IT savvy customers such as employees, citizens, or the end user of a product or service are more demanding. They want real-time answers and require quality information and intelligence The wider business must also become more agile, responding to changes in market conditions, competitive pressure and increased innovation. This puts a MASSIVE pressure on IT, as its world is hard-coded and hardintegrated. Changing the logic, workflow and connections is very complex. Now, we realize that this is not a digital migration where one minute we are using old IT, the next we are immediately in the land of NEW IT. No, this is an evolution. Some organizations are embracing the various cloud services or outsourced services as they deliver significant commercial gains. However, some are not there yet. Regardless, IT Operations Management solutions must be flexible enough to support this journey to NEW IT. Legacy ITOM solutions can be cumbersome and expensive. They cannot support the NEW IT that is heading our way, or already landed. Imagine the world of IT is similar to a complex air traffic control plan. Old IT is equivalent to 100 planes in the air at any one time. Today there are thousands of planes landing in different locations, at different time. IT cannot run on old technology any longer.
4 The problem 20 th Century IT Operations Management: Lives in a hard coded hard integrated hard scripted World. IT s job is to provide services to the business. These can be technical, such as deploying security patches, addressing technology failures or capacity planning.
