2 TEACHER Those who affect children s imagination essentially influence their future existence as well. József Eötvös Teachers can be those secondary school s who constantly recognise young talents and provide them with additional, extensive knowledge of biology and chemistry. Their students also actively participate in the national OKTV and in various international natural sciences competitions. Teachers select those youths who, as preliminary members of the Szeged Scientist Academy, have the opportunity to get more acquainted with the scientific activities of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Szeged and the Biological Research Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The most important tasks of Teachers are to introduce the selected youths to the Szeged Scientist Academy s programme, to encourage them to inquire into areas of research supervised by mentors of the Academy, and to emphasize all the potentials to reach the top of their profession with the help of the Academy s scholarships. With the assistance of Teachers, it is possible to achieve an interconnection between secondary schools and higher education, which then facilitates the development of young talents to become creative, successful scientists. Currently there are 21 Teachers in the programme representing a number of schools in different cities all over the country, such as Szeged, Gyöngyös, Szolnok, Debrecen, Hódmezővásárhely and Budapest, and their mutual goal is to develop young talents into prominent researchers of Hungarian science.

3 Sándor Bán Radnoti Miklos Experimental Grammar School Address: Tisza Lajos krt H-6720, Szeged, Hungary tel.: / My career started at a Catholic Grammar School maintained by Piarist Fathers Order, where I taught Chemistry and Biology at standard and advanced level. In 1998 I was the leader of the team, which was responsible for planning and installation of the newly established Science Department in the school s new building. I had been Head of Science Department of the school. From 2002 I have been teaching at the Radnoti Miklos Experimental Grammar School. My main task has been teaching and tutoring the students of the special Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics classes. I had been Head of Biology here between 2005 and During these years the development of our department had lead us to the top of the country based on the results achived by our students at the Matura Exam and at the National and International Biology Competitions. In cooperation with my colleagues we had set up an outstanding laboratory for Molecular Biology Education. These facilities are also open for use during hands-on Biology Teaching training workshops and during biology competitions. I have participated at several training on molecluar biology and also on neurology education organized by the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in Cambridge Hinxton (Sanger Institute), Heidelberg (EMBL) and Monterotondo (EMBL). From 2009 I have been the Country Coordinator of the Hungarian Team participating at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) and also at the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO). Nowadays I work as the Head of the newly developing Science Education Laboratory of our school district. Since graduation I have been working in Verseghy Ferenc Grammar School and I also work as the leader of the team of Science s. In 2001 I got my second degree at Szeged Unuversity, as a pedagogical expert. I also work as a mentor for Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Institute of Education and I am the consultant of Biology and Geography, too. As an advisor I coordinate Kitaibel Pál Biology Competition. After the introduction of the new Matura examination I took part in coaching of s for the new exam. I have submitted and conducted several tenders on Biology and Environmental Education which helped my students to improve their knowledge and skills on Biology. I have constructed a workbook for the mid-level examiners for the Science Laboratory in Széchenyi István Grammar School in Szolnok. I was also a consultant editor of some other workbooks. I have taught biology and chemistry at the Tóth Árpád Grammar School since In 1989 I completed an intensive course in environmental scinces at the Eötvös Lóránd University. This course together whit the ecological research carried out for my doctorate degree received in 1981 determined the way my occupation developed towards environmental education. I undertook a leading role in the revision and restart of the special training in biology and biology-chemistry. In the Arany János Talent Development programme I use my self-made curriculum and textbook. Since 1995 I have been active as a consultant at the Institution of Pedagogy in Hajdú-Bihar County initially in biology then since 2004 in environmental education as well. I have become the supervisor of the university students of environmental science. I organized the regional rounds of numerous competitions many of which were created by myself. As a result the tradition of student conferences was established and several adult conferences have been organized as well. Several environmental education courses were organized as well (eg: open-air school). I am proud of my work in the activity projects, I operated the BIOCÉN Environmental and Nature Protection Student Club of the school in which the pupils worked as a group in projects where complex creativity was required and thus trained including individual and collective research and activity, wide range of field programmes, actions in practice. H-6722, Szeged, Hungary tel.: / I started my teaching career at the Vocational School of Forestry, Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management in the town of Barcs in 1985, where I taught Biology and Chemistry. In the specialized classes of Forestry both subjects were vocational primer and Biology was a compulsory subject at the GCSE Exam. In the hydrographical classes besides teaching Chemistry, I also led basic laboratory practice within the vocational internship, one day a week. During this time (1988), I participated in the editing and piloting work of Kémia feladatbank /A Task Bank in Chemistry/ (edited by Z. Orbán Erzsébet). My present workplace is SZTE Ságvári Endre Gyakorló Gimnázium, where I have been a trainee supervisor in Biology since 1991, and this way taking part in training as well. Besides teaching Biology at my secondary grammar school, as guest lecturer, I have held several methodology seminars in Biology at the Faculty of Science and Informatics of Szeged University. For two years I also taught the basics of Biology and evolutional psychology for psychology students at the Faculty of Arts. In 1995 I graduated from the Environmentalist Training Course organized by the Faculty of Science, and then in 2006 I got a degree at the Course in Public Education Management at the JGYPK (Juhász Gyula Teacher Training Faculty). In 2000, I participated in the elaboration of the syllabus and laboratory practice for the new class specialized in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At present I am a of Biology and a form as well in the third class of this kind. H-1082, Budapest, Hungary tel.: /220 I graduated in the Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences as a biologist, specialised in the fields of evolutionary biology, systematics and ecology. Later, I took part in the Doctorate School of the same institution, in the Theoretical Biology and Ecology Ph.D. Program. Meanwhile, I got my MSc level degree as secondary school biology. I ran my researches in the field of plant ecology with a focus on the distribution of species composition in dolomite rocky grasslands. During my scientific work I got experiences in experiment planning, thus I can help my students to contrive and elaborate an own study as well as in preparing from their results. I have been teaching biology in the Fazekas Mihály Primary and Secondary Grammar School since the 2010/2011 school year. From the very beginning I take part in the advanced level education held for students with specialised interest in biology. In our school, special emphasis is laid on the competitions, for which we continuously prepare our students. My experiences related to plant ecology are chiefly utilised for arranging field lessons and teaching species diversity for my students. During my teaching work in the Fazekas Grammar School I can give demonstratory lessons and methodological demonstrations, and I also participate in the organisation of the Scientific Bolyai Team Competition. The next step for me was a position at the Lutheranist School at Deák Square (Budapest) from 1993 till now. My main task is to prepare students for the standard and advanced level mature exam in Biology. I am happy to say that despite the small size of our school lots of our students choose these subjects and excel on the exams. I also organize summer nature camps: a job that I find really rewarding. We have already visited several beautiful parts of Hungary, for example the Kis-Balaton, the Szatmár and the Őrség. Apart from my work in the classroom I have been participating in several educational projects. 11 Béla Gál Radnoti Miklos Experimental Grammar School Address: Tisza Lajos krt H-6720, Szeged, Hungary tel.: I have been an appointed of the Radnóti Miklós High School in Szeged since As a of Chemistry and Biology I had the chance to teach both of my subjects. The opportunity of spending a year long academic scholarship to do research at the university chair of Biophysics and Biochemistry at the Medical University of Szeged significantly contributed to my professional advancement. The upcoming demands for higher education motivated Radnóti High School to launch the new Biochemistry course. I complied the curriculum for Biochemistry and Biology course. With the colleagues of my school we set up an internal study-aid. During the period between I took part in the work of the committee which was delegated by the Ministry of Education. It controlled and reviewed the syllabus for the 6- and 8 -year courses of studies in Hungary, where I commented on the documentation of Environmental studies and Biology. During my work experience I have met a great number of talented students and I have often been granted with moments of joy. In the Who knows what television competition my student achieved the honourable third place. In the last couple of years I had approximately 50 students who got into the final 10 of the Hungarian National Secondary School Academic Competition in Biology and earlier in Chemistry too. To this day our school is the most successful participant of the Pál Bugát National Interdisciplinar Scientific Competition. Between the period I was the appointed headmaster of Miklós Radnóti Elementary and High School. In the following five years I was able to expend my time directly on high school students again and I even had time for writing coursebooks. As a tutor I took part in the methodology trainings of the university students going in for teaching Biology until Besides tutoring at the university I had lectures and training courses for s of the Csongrád County. I regularly took part in the correction process of the entrance examination tests in Biology and in the oral part of the entrance exam as an examiner. Since 2005 I have again been the headmaster of Miklós Radnóti High School. As a social activity I am the chairman of Csizmazia Non-Profit Foundation where I try to improve the love to nature of young children. After four years I got an extra part-time job at the Radnóti Miklós Experimental Grammar School in Szeged for half a year, but later I continued my work in this school full time. Now for seven years- I m still a of this school, I teach biology for biology specialized, high and normal level students. Since 2010 I take part in the preparation of the Hungarian team and the translation of the competition tasks on the International Biology Olympiad (IBO). Several occasions I did similar work with the competitors of Hungary at the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO) as well. Even my students had good results on both competitions. In 2008 I applied for a training in molecular biology in the laboratories of EMBL in Heidelberg, what I really enjoyed. In 2013 I won the Prize of the Hungarian Ministry for the Talents of Hungary, because my students were successful on the Hungarian biology competitions. This research served as the basis for my PhD. Between 1996 and 20I2 I worked as a Biology and Chemistry at Baár-Madas Secondary School in Budapest. There it was my duty to write the syllabus of the advanced level coursein Biology. I also organised 1 and 2-week- long fieldwork practicesessions and summer camps for students every year for 16 years. Since September 2012 I have been teaching at Varosmajori Grammar School in Budapest. For the last 15 years 21 of my students have been among the best 20 in the National Biology Competitions. In 2010 I won the prize The best Biology in finding and educatiing the most talented students in Hungary. In 2013 I won another prize called Bonisbona for preparing a lot of students successfully for competitions in Biology. In 1998 I started work at the Premonstratensian Grammar School in Gödöllő. So far I have taught biology in classes of general curricula and also in electives for students intending to take university entrance examinations, or for those interested in the subject. In the academic year of 2014/2015 we are launching a course specializing in biology and chemistry at a higher level, in the elaboration of which I as leader of team have been taking part actively regarding both professional content and structure. Dealing with the talented students has gained outstanding importance in my pedagogical activity, so I took the pedagogical professional examination at the University of Debrecen to become a of talent development. Additionally, I have also taken part in the Géniusz in-service training programme dealing with the talent development of students skilled in the field of biological science. One of the most popular and commonly used ways of dealing with talented students is organizing 5-member student research teams with the support of the Talent Bridges programme, in which students can improve their cognitive skills by acquiring knowledge in a shared research activity. From year to year, after finishing their projects, these research teams take part in the TUDOK conferences with their scientific presentations based on the findings of their previous researches.
