2 What is mentoring? The mentoring program introduced by the University of Szeged, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy is intended to be a useful way of helping freshmen adjust to their new environment and academe, furthermore to support all students who need guidance or advice related to the study process or University life. The aim is to maximise the students potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and encourage students to manage their own learning. A mentor can help students develop more effective study strategies if they are struggling with motivation or time management. The program is based on the concept that Mentors rely upon having had similar experiences to gain an empathy with the mentee and an understanding of their issues. What can I expect from a Mentor? Guidance on finding the right direction. developing solutions to career issues. clarifying your goals. how to be successful within the University environments. how to become more self aware. how to develop skills to direct your academic career, rather than leaving it to chance. how the institution, department, lab and/or care system operates. University and Faculty regulations. Confidentiality Mentor - mentee conversations remain confidential. Availability Weekly accessibility within the frame of reception hours. A Mentor is not able to provide training for students struggling with learning difficulties such as dyslexia. provide help if the student does not inform the Mentor in time about a certain problem. solve administrative issues (e.g. student missing deadlines).

3 What does a Mentor expect from me? A Mentor is an experienced and trusted adviser. The relationship between Mentor and Mentee should be confidential. However, please keep in mind that a good mentor-mentee relation is based on mutual respect. A Mentor is not a classmate, but a senior professional who is ready to share knowledge and experience which might be valuable to you. How can I access the Program?
