1 PhD, RN, NEA-BC Education Degree Institution PhD MSN BS University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT (College of Nursing, Management & Administration) University of California at San-Francisco, San Francisco, CA (Family Health Care Nursing, Children at Risk for Developmental Disabilities) San Diego State University, San Diego, CA (Nursing) Work History/Experience Dates Position/ Institution 8/12 present Associate Director, School of Nursing Faculty, Teaching N 620, Foundations of Nursing Administration San Diego State University 6/13 present Coaching Consultant for Imperial Valley Workforce Development Grant through HRSA 4/11-6/12 Interim Director, DNP Program Lecturer San Diego State University 6/01 7/10 Vice President, Patient Services and Nurse Executive Rady Children s Hospital and Health Center 3020 Children s Way San Diego CA In this position I was responsible for the operations, including staffing, care quality, and budgets for the following: all inpatient care units including two offsite neonatal intensive care units, the emergency department including three offsite urgent care centers, the orthopedic and surgical specialty clinics, hematology/oncology clinics, education department, surgical services, psychiatric services (ambulatory), medical social work, child life services, pastoral care, nutrition. I co-chaired the clinical informatics council with the chief medical information officer. For the first 3-4 years the hospital based case managers were in my reporting group. That changed when we re-organized, with case management working with the quality department and education working with me. 7/99-6/01 Dean and Associate Professor St. Marks-Westminster School of Nursing Westminster College 1840 South 1300 East 1
2 Salt Lake City UT St. Mark s-westminster had a baccalaureat nursing program, masters nursing program and a nurse practitionser program. The Dean had responsibilities for program development and school operations. 7/97-6/99 Associate Professor (Clinical) (full-time), University of Utah College of Nursing Salt Lake City, UT Director, Masters Program in Patient Care Services Administrations. Coordinator, Undergraduate Pediatrics program. 1/98-6/99 Manager (contracted for 20% time through the College of Nursing), Health Services for Region III Youth Corrections Facilities (Salt Lake Valley). This was part of the faculty appointment at University of Utah. While at University of Utah I was responsible for the development and implementation of a health care program for youngsters who were incarcerated in the juvenile justice system. In conjunctions with the Associate Dean at Unitversity of Utah, the Director for the Youth Services, and the Medical Director for Youth Services, we established on going health care programs in three sites in the Salt Lake Valley. 1/97-6/97 Associate Professor (Clinical) (part-time, 10%), University of Utah College of Nursing, Salt Lake City, UT 08/89-6/97 Nurse Executive /Operating Officer; Responsible for Nursing Practice, Women's Service, Work Redesign, Psychiatric Services, Case Management; Salt Lake Valley Health Services (Alta View, Cottonwood, and LDS Hospitals); Salt Lake City, UT Administered services (operations, contracts, staffing, budgets for service lines). This role changed many times in the course of the years I was in it. We changed reporting lines, administrative structure, responsibilities, and titles periodically in the time I worked with Intermountain HealthCare (IHC). I worked for IHC from May of 1988 till June of 1997 I was the Nurse Executive of one, then three hospitals in that system from August 1989 till I left in June of The overall role was similar to that described for Rady Children s Hospital. During my tenure at IHC I was able to work with faculty from Brigham Young University and Salt Lake Community College, the Director of Nursing Research at LDS hospital, and the Nursing, Social Work, and Medical staff of the medical department (the department/unit that cared for a non-surgical predominantly geriatric population), in a project that significantly re-designed care delivery. We worked with two colleges in order to orient their students during their semester on this unit to the two different roles. The model was called Differentiated Practce. The outcomes we were able to document included: staff turnover on the unit reduced to almost zero with a waiting list for positions. Prior to this project, the vacancy rate had been 50% in that department. Patient satisfaction increased based on feedback from patient interviews. 2
