There you can take a first class bus at the Mexico-Texcoco-Primera Plus line, via Lago, by the Texcoco-Peñon highway which arrives at Texcoco City. Approximate cost: $35.00 pesos. Its origins are in the National School of Agriculture, founded on February 22 nd 1854, in the San Jacinto 4

5 Convent, Mexico City. On November 20th 1923 the National School of Agriculture was moved to the former Chapingo estate, Mexico where it s currently found. On December 3th 1974, after a long analytic and discussion process, the enactment of the LAW THAT CREATED CHAPINGO AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY appeared in the Official Journal of the Federation. The process of transformation from school to university ends in 1978, with the formulation of the Chapingo University statutes, from there on all the activities and political approaches inherent to the institution, are governed by this statute. In this year its activities initiates with the following departments: Agricultural High school, Forestry, Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Agricultural Industries, Irrigation, Agricultural Parasitology, Rural Sociology, Soil Science, Arid Zones and Animal Husbandry. Teaching and Graduate Departments The university has experienced an expansion process towards the different agronomic orientations, at an undergraduate and graduate level. That s how the Bachelor degrees: Agroecology, Agricultural Mechanics, Statistics, Industrial Forestry, Forestry, Forest Restoration, Agricultural Business Administration, International Commerce of Agricultural Products, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resources Planning and Management, Agronomist Specialized in Tropical Zones, Livestock Systems, and Arid Zones Agricultural Systems have being created. Master of science degrees have been created such as: Agroforestry for a Sustainable Development, Agricultural Biotechnology, Forestry Sciences, Agro-food Science and Technology, Agricultural and Natural Resources Economics, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering and Integrated water use, Educational Processes, Livestock Innovation, Vegetal Protection, Natural Resources and Environment in Arid Zones, Rural Sociology, Agro-business Strategy, and Professional in Agro Business Strategy. As well as PhD s in Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Superior Agricultural Education, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering and Integrated Water Use, Economic Agro-food Problems and, Livestock Innovation; all of them are part of the Quality Postgraduates National Program (PNPC Spanish acronym) of CONACYT. In its organic structure, has nine University Regional Centers, whose mission is oriented toward forming human resources with a high technical and scientific level, as well as research, service and diffusion, that will contribute to regional rural development in its ecological-natural, technical, economic and social aspects: 1. 6 Regional Centers Location in the Country Pedagogical Infrastructure The University has 13 specialized libraries located in each Teaching Department, Research and Service (DEIS Spanish acronym) and a Central Library which has 95,031 books, 15,336 brochures, 8,500 maps, 3,622 reprints, 33,873 thesis, 1,078 bibliographies, and 800 Journal titles. The Central Library also has 8 cubicles for groups and 12 cubicles with a capacity for 5 to 6 people. It also has a data base for an 6

7 integrated management of the library and consultation in CDs (Agrícola, Agris and CABI, Plant Doctor, and The Herbalist among others). Nine Departmental auditoriums and a Central Auditorium, with a capacity of 1000 seats Equipped greenhouses which make possible research work and course practice by professors and students. An experimental field of 292 ha, with 9 deep wells for irrigation and 2,500 ha of wild land and forest. An experimental farm with dairy and meat producing bovine livestock; pork, ovine, and goats, furthermore, it has the facilities needed to develop research and animal production practices and/or cultivated grassland management. The Language Center offers teaching services, curricular courses and non curricular, in English, French, German, Italian and Japanese. It also has a media center with self education material, opened from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. More information can be found at There are 11 buildings inside the University which are used as dormitories with a total of 668 rooms for interns with scholarship). Outside the University there are 49 module homes with 588 rooms for 1176 external scholarship students and most outstanding students. Sports, recreational, and cultural activities are available for students at the university. STUDENTS ASSOCIATION The students association has a cooperative, billiard room, cultural activities and other facilities for student s activities. Requirements and Procedure for Visiting Students Requirements Previous selection by the institution of origin, applications and documents must be presented (via and by parcel service) officially by the Office for External Relations to the Academic Exchange and International Affairs Department (AEIAD) of 7

Fulfilled this prerequisite the student will have to inform the University s Academic Exchange and International Affairs Department preferably by , the exact arriving day, which must be during the institutions activity period (preferably working days and hours). Entrance to Mexico Foreign students must get a Students Visa from the representative of the Mexican Diplomacy in the country of origin; this document is rigorously looked trough at Mexico City Airport. The information about the permit and needed documentation can be found at The entrance to Mexico is allowed presenting the corresponding passport and visa. The registration at the National Institute of Migration, Foreigners registration must be done within 3 days after your arrival. At the All mobility and Exchange students must arrive at the University on the first week of school period. Once at the University, get in touch and/or present yourself at the Academic Exchange and International Affairs Department, located at the Dr. Efraim Hernández Xolocotzin building, cubicle 214 and 215. Photocopy of Passport and Visa In addition, to arrange your credential as an Exchange student at the University, 2 recent 2.5 x 3 cm sized photographs are required. 9 University Residence The university offers the dormitory service as stablished in the official agreement with foreign universities. However, the student must pay $500 (five hundred Mexican pesos) as a refundable security deposit against assigned room damage or loses, for the time spent in the university residence (dormitory).
