Dates of Preview Days: Kickoff LSU Kickoff LSU is a day-long, on-campus open house for high school seniors and their families to get better acquainted with LSU. At this event, prospective students are given the opportunity to meet with two different academic colleges of their choice for one hour each, as well as participate in several tours and presentations throughout the day. There are 8 different dates from which students can choose to participate this fall. Registration is now open online. The following are the 2014 Kickoff LSU dates: September 5 th, 12 th, 19 th, 26 th October 17th, 24th November 10th, 17th Preview LSU Preview LSU is an overview of the University for high school juniors and their parents. During Preview LSU, students will participate in an information fair to learn about involvement and academics at LSU. There will be an admissions and financial aid presentation, as well as campus tours and residential life tours. Registration for Preview LSU is required to attend and will open up in the spring. The two dates from which students can choose to attend are March 6 th and March 20 th. The Grand Opening of the LSU Olinde Career Center LSU s two on-campus career centers have combined to create the new Olinde Career Center, which is now centrally located in the LSU Student Union and will be open this fall. This state-of-the-art center will allow LSU Career Services to expand its programs to students and alumni; hire additional support professionals; and better collaborate with employers who hire talent from LSU. The LSU Computer Science Partnership with the Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and IBM To rapidly expand computer science education in Louisiana, the state has created an incentive package by contributing $14 million toward an initiative partnering LSU, IBM and LED. As part of this initiative, $9 million of this is coming to LSU to grow our Computer Science program. Through this partnership with LSU, IBM is expecting to hire approximately 800 Computer Science and Computer Engineering graduates within the next 5 years coming out of the LSU program. The funding will also help the University double our faculty size and upgrade our programs, such as our specializations in emerging areas of Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, and Digital Media, and the introduction of programming lab sections. 4 Through a $100 million public-private partnership, the College of Engineering will be expanding as a state-led initiative to grow the number of engineering, computer science and construction management professionals in Louisiana. Xavier is first among the nation s colleges and universities in the number of African American graduates who go on to complete medical school, according to data compiled by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Xavier had 60 African- American graduates earn medical degrees in 2011, the latest year for which complete data is available.
