1 SPRING 2014 PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM The Professional Internship Program grants fully funded six to twelve month internships at prominent American companies and organizations to current post-secondary students and recent graduates from Hungary. Positions are custom-sourced based on the specific skills and interests of the selected participants in fields ranging from business, economics and finance, to public administration, arts and culture, and the sciences. All of the Professional Interns have been offered internships at suitable host organizations. Beata Borzasi Host Organization: Boberdoo.com LLC Location: Chicago, IL Beata is currently pursuing her Master s degree in Information Systems at Budapest University of Technology and Economics. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Business Information Systems from Corvinus University of Budapest. She would like to gain more experience in information technology management, IT strategy, business intelligence consultancy and analytics. She is also interested in data mining technologies. Jozsef Molnar Host Organization: AON Location: Chicago, IL Jozsef received his Master s degree in Business Information Technology from Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He holds a Bachelor s degree in Analytical Business Intelligence from Corvinus University of Budapest. He hopes to improve business intelligence for a company by discovering useful information from large amounts of data by using data mining algorithms, descriptive statistics, exploratory data analysis, and predictive analytics as a data analyst. Tamas Molnar Host Organization: Brown University Location: Providence, RI Tamas is currently pursuing his PhD in Bionics Philosophy from Pazmany Peter Catholic University. He holds a Master s degree in Info-Bionics Engineering and a Bachelor s degree in Molecular Bionics. Tamas is interested in Neural engineering because it brings neuroscience and biomedical engineering together. It is a field where the living and the artificial world meet. He thinks one interesting application is the Brain Computer Interface, which is a system that helps paralyzed people to communicate with their surroundings. He is also interested in Neuromodulation, especially Deep Brain Stimulation, where an implanted brain pacemaker can treat diseases such as Parkinson's or chronic pain.
2 Ivett Rehany Host Organization: Aon Risk Solutions Location: Chicago, IL Ivett received her Master s degree in Accounting from Corvinus University of Budapest. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Business Administration from Budapest University of Technology and Economics. During her internship she would like to expand her theoretical knowledge of business, accounting and finance with practical experiences. She has learned a lot about different business structures, accounting and tax systems and believes she will be an effective member of her host organization. She has always been interested in finance as well and thinks that financial controlling combines accounting and tax fields, which she believes she would enjoy. Beata Urmos Host Organization: SAP Labs Location: Palo Alto, CA Beata received her Master s degree in Software Information Technology from the University of Szeged. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Engineering Information Technology. Beata would like to earn professional experience in NoSQL technologies, which were developed in the U.S. She has always been interested in data modeling and data management methods and would like to learn more about the solutions being offered within this area. David Zsolczai Host Organization: University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center Location: Houston, TX David is currently pursuing his Master s degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering at Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He holds a Bachelor s degree in Chemical Engineering. David would like to learn more about new organic chemical and analytical technologies. He believes working in the United States will allow him to gain better problem solving skills, learn more about new technologies, and become a better professional. SPRING 2014 SENIOR LEADERS AND SCHOLARS FELLOWSHIP The Senior Leaders and Scholars Fellowship provides full funding to distinguished mid- and seniorlevel Hungarian professionals in business, public administration, research and academia to pursue three to twelve month projects in the U.S. that they have arranged independently.
3 Aniko Gal Host Organization: Thomas Jefferson University Location: Philadelphia, PA Aniko is a research assistant at Semmelweis University in the Institute of Genomic Medicine and Rare Disorders. Aniko will be researching the role of MSTO1 in mitochondrial dynamics. The project will help better understand the specific role of MSTO1 in mitochondrial fusion-fission dynamics and in supporting cell bioenergetics and signaling. Furthermore, it will provide clues to the mechanisms that might mediate the effects of altered MSTO1 activity to cell injury and disease. Tamas Niczki Host Organization: Perkins+Will Location: New York, NY Tamas is an assistant professor at Budapest University of Technology and Economics in the Department of Residential Building Design. Tamas will be researching practical architectural design with a special focus on sustainability. The main objectives of his study are to learn the use of Sustainable Design and high end innovative techniques during the architectural design process and to enhance his artistic approach at a multidisciplinary, outstanding design company in the capital of world design. SPRING 2014 HMAA HUNGARIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA As part of the Professional Internship Program, HAESF provides financial grants to support sixth year medical students on HMAA s three month medical exchange program. The exchange provides broader medical knowledge to young Hungarian physicians who are entering the Hungarian health care system. Organized by HMAA and supported by HAESF, participants complete elective medical rotations at the State University of New York School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Buffalo, or at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University at Syracuse. Peter Lazar Host Organization: State University of New York Buffalo Location: Buffalo, NY Peter is currently pursuing his degree in Medicine at the University of Szeged. Peter wishes to expand his knowledge and horizons in the medical field. He believes this program will form his thinking and mentality and help him become a better doctor.

He holds a Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He would like to work as a natural gas market analyst intern for an energy company at the commodity trading department. Using different analytical tools and methods, he would like to contribute in the support of energy traders and get insights into the regulatory environment of the US gas market. Lili Gallo Preferred Placements: National Collegiate Athletic Association, U.S. Figure Skating Headquarters, National Hockey League Headquarters, National Federation of State High School Associations, USA Water Polo Association Lili received her Master s degree in Law from Eotvos Lorand University. Lili would like to work in the management and administration of youth development programs (especially sports and educational grant programs) where she may have the opportunity to observe how to build a scholarship or grant program from the beginning through the finances to final execution. Regina Jonas Preferred Placements: Cargill Innovation Centers, U.S. Department of Agriculture animal production and protection program, JBS United Ltd., ADM Alliance Nutrition, Inc., Berg & Schmidt America LLC Regina is currently pursuing her Master s in Animal Nutrition and Feed Safety from Kaposvar University. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Animal Husbandry Engineering. Regina would like to gather practical laboratory and research experience. She hopes to widen her knowledge of agriculture, regulations and production systems by working with a host organization in the U.S., where the system is very different than the EU.
5 Eniko Kiss Preferred Placements: Genentech, Ely Lilly, Amgen, Beckman Research Institute, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Eniko is currently pursuing her Master s degree in Biology at the University of Szeged. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Biology. Eniko would like to expand her theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of human diseases, immuno- and gene therapy. She would like to study genome sequencing and analysis, proteomics and system biology among others. She is also interested in virus research, though she does not have experience in it yet. Csaba Matyas Preferred Placements: Laboratory of Physiologic Studies at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Cardiorenal Research Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic, Department of Molecular Cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute, Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science at the National Institute on Aging, Cardiovascular Pathobiology Program at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. Csaba is currently pursuing his PhD in Cardiovascular Disorders at Semmelweis University. He holds a Master s degree in Medicine. Csaba would like to do experimental research in animal models. He is interested in investigation of heart function with echocardiography and invasive methods. He hopes to study nitric-oxide signaling pathways in diabetic cardiomyopathy and in heart failure models. Henrietta Papp Preferred Placements: Genentech, Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, The Frederick National Lab, RetroVirox, Inc. Henrietta is currently pursuing her Master s degree in Biology at the University of Szeged. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Biology. Henrietta would like to join a research project that aims to elicit special characteristics of viruses. She would also like to learn how to work with viruses. Tibor Varga Preferred Placements: Tesla Motors, Solar City, Solar World, Enviro Mission LTD, Space X Tibor received his Master s degree in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Pannonia. He holds a Bachelor s degree in Mechatronics Engineering. Tibor would like to work with 3D designing and engineering programs (Inventor, Catia, Autocad, etc.), mathematical simulation and modeling programs (Matlab), visual programing languages (Labview), and electric circuit design.
6 Panna Vass Preferred Placements: Medtronic, Eli Lilly, Joslin Diabetes Center, Dexcom, Genentech Panna is currently pursing her Master s degree in Biochemical Engineering from Budapest University of Technology and Economics. She holds a Bachelor s degree in Biochemical Engineering. Panna would like see how research is conducted in big pharmaceutical companies and to learn about currently applied analytical methodologies. She would like to be a part of a research group. FALL 2014 HMAA HUNGARIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA Katalin Seprenyi Host Organization: State University of New York Buffalo Location: Buffalo, NY Katalin is currently pursuing her medical degree from the University of Szeged. She is also enrolled in the English-Hungarian Medical Translator and Interpreter Program at the University. Katalin would like a practical internship in pediatrics, obstetricsgynecology and internal medicine. Dalma Tenyi Host Organization: State University of New York Buffalo Location: Buffalo, NY Dalma is currently pursuing her degree in General Medicine from the University of Pecs. Dalma would like an internship in the fields of child neurology, endocrinology and gynecology. FALL 2014 ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Peter Kortvelyesi Industry of Interest: Information Technology Peter received his Master s degree in Computer Science from the University of Szeged. He also holds a Bachelor s degree in Economics for Engineers. Peter is a Technical Informatics-Economist professional with software engineering, project management and R&D project auditing experience in static code analysis based software. His main focus areas are IT research and development, IT engineering management, and

Melinda Nagy Industry of Interest: Healthcare Start-up Melinda received her Master s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Budapest University of Technology and Economics. She also holds a Bachelor s degree in Computer Science from Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania. Melinda wishes to spend time at an incubator, to gain insights on the American entrepreneurship spirit. She would like to gain experience and first-hand information on how to build a company from the ground up. She is interested in the possibilities offered by the U.S. government for healthcare start-ups, to gain valuable ideas of what could be implemented in Hungary. She would like to build and maintain a professional contact network by attending conferences or social events. Melinda would like to gain experience with PR and marketing, done in the American way.
