6 DVIA Facilities Update DVIA will move to the Isis location (DVD), date TBD (after the high schools move to the new facility) In the very preliminary stages of thinking about design goals and guiding principles to focus the work as the design process unfolds Will be going on site visits to learn from other schools and organizations

9 Da Vinci Innovation Academy Update Highlights of Successes Successful launch of the Innovation Station, DVIA's art and makerspace classroom Student-created and led Cardboard Challenge community event (raised over $1,000 toward a 3D printer) Response to Instruction (RTI) program has served more than 50 students with targeted reading intervention Looking Ahead Improve the Core 4-5 experience by better supporting the transition to core 4 and the core 5 middle school academic and social needs Increase parent attendance at workshops by making them more relevant and easier for families to attend
10 Da Vinci Communications Update Goals Further develop a school culture in the DV family tradition Develop and run quality interdisciplinary and industry-based projects across all grade levels Implement computer based instruction that allows people to spend their time doing what people do best, and computers to do what they can do best Successes Development of Computer Programming and Media Communications pathways is proceeding at full speed: we are already running two PLTW courses for all of our students ( Introduction to Engineering Design and Computer Science and Software Engineering ) and we will be building up to all of PLTW s computer science courses over the next 3 years as they are released by PLTW. Our Media Communications pathway will be developed and run with UCLA Extension and our industry partners. Both the 9th and 10th grade teams have produced interdisciplinary projects which touch all subjects and involve industry skills and input.
11 Da Vinci Design Update Highlights of Successes Implemented own DVD Signature Design Process to facilitate Design Thinking in projects, regardless of course Grade level teams are participating in 2 interdisciplinary projects per year with at least one of those including industry involvement Increased number of college nights, financial aid workshops, etc. and higher attendance at school events by parents (Exhibition, SLCs) Looking Ahead Developing Design Pathways Architecture and Graphic Design (Intro to Design PLTW class in 10th grade this year, 11th grade pathway classes introduced , 12th grade pathway class in ) Long-term goal is to build the dual enrollment program with a college or community college partner so that students receive relevant, transferable credit Fabrication Lab is well under way, new additions this year will be a laser cutter, 3D printer, plotter printer, and a variety of power and hand tools More parent and industry involvement during POLs
12 Da Vinci Science Update DVS Season 6 Growth Goals 1. Grow Project Quality 2. Promote Where I Belong 3. Cultivate GRIT 4. Increase Parent Involvement 5. Educate Families about Post-DV Options 6. Support Struggling Students Highlights of Successes Increased outreach to families through weekly blasts and Facebook posts reaching 500+ families every week; over 300 families attended the College Information meetings, 450 families attended SLCs, 200 parents attended POLs PLTW program continues to grow with 7 classes offered and 385 students (74%) enrolled; 28 seniors will graduate with 4 or more PLTW classes successfully completed, Dr. Bertram will recognize these students at senior awards banquet held on May 18 Student participation in clubs continues to grow over 60 students in the Interact Club have invested hours of community service this year alone FRC Robotics team finished #3 out of 66 teams in the LA Regional Competition with 40 members and 12 industry mentors investing hundreds of hours DVS continues to model the growth mindset and mentality of GRIT that is taught every day through rigorous content taught through relevant and challenging projects
