They will have practical experience of measuring techniques and system monitoring and they will be familiar with distribution and energy management systems. 4

They will have the fundamentals to carry out an electrification project as well as a scientific research project. The students will be able to apply adequate funding and to realise electrification projects in a sustainable manner. 5
6 Laboratory The major part of practical training is situated in the DeMoTec Hall it contains large demonstration and testing facilities with a focus on PV powered Hybrid Systems and Energy Controlling. Additionally in use is a special electronic laboratory. In both, students can transform their theoretical knowledge in founded application oriented knowledge. Energy storage systems (4 hours) The laboratory of energy storage systems contains different tests about battery devices: Measurement of the state of charge (SOC) of batteries from the same type but different charged and with a different age. Measuring of self-discharging and internal resistance s. Acquisition of discharging and charging curves of upon named batteries with different currents. Interpreting and analysing Capacity comparison of the different batteries. Balancing of the energy flow. Electric consumers (8 hours) The laboratory of electrical consumers contains different tests about typical as well as special consumers in small grid systems. Tests are focussed on energy efficiency and influences of grid quality to evaluate optimised components. Additionally measurements of switch on current pikes and power factors: Electric motors (Comparison between 1 phase and 3 phase motors as well as cheap and expensive models) Water pumping (Comparison between centrifugal and piston pumps as well as cheap and expensive models) Lightning / ballast s (Comparison between common and electronic ballast s as well as cheap and expensive models) Refrigeration (Comparison between cheap and expensive models) Fans, work shop machines, Computers, Televisions, Battery charger Interpreting and analysing Comparison and evaluation of the different components. Power electronic components (4 hours) The laboratory of power electronic components contains special measurements in area of switching devices. DC/DC Step Down Converter and the influence of pulse wide modulation DC/AC Inverter part load efficiency measurements Conclusions The participants learn how pulse wide modulation is working Knowledge of part load influences Motor generator sets (4 hours) Measuring of current, voltage and frequency quality of two different gensets. Acquisition of fuel efficiency in part and full load conditions of two different gensets. Interpreting and analysing Comparing of the gensets. Calculation of fuel consumption of a given load curve. 6
7 Monitoring of electric power systems (4 hours) Data Acquisition with a Programmable Processing System The participants learn to work with a PPS Data Logger which is used in all other laboratories Bus Communication in Energy Management Systems Conclusion The participants learn to work with a PPS Data Logger which is used in all other laboratories The participants learn about Bus Systems Electric grid (4 hours) Programming a energy management systems integrated in a PV powered hybrid system Working Principle of a innovative counter based on a Variable Energy Price Conclusion The participants learn to work with a special energy management system Knowledge about new tendencies in the energy marked 7
