Beaches If there is something that makes Formentera different from other Mediterranean destinations, it is its beauty and the absence of buildings from most of its coast The commitment of several decades to sustainable development has made it possible to enjoy heavenly beaches today, but with all the services and safety of a western destination Es Cavall d en Borras Cavall d en Borràs beach is the nearest beach to the port of La Sabina, which can be reached on foot or by cycling along the coast It is a peaceful beach with crystal clear water that has views of the port, Es Vedrà and the yachts and boats anchored off it Behind it there is a pretty wood of thuriferous juniper where you can shelter from the sun at the hottest times Length: metres Orientation: West Ses Platgetes Area of beaches with fine, white sand following on from, in combination with low rocky outcrops In the background is the blue horizon and, to the right, the green and brown of the La Mola cliffs Length: metres Orientation: Northeast SERVICES SERVICES P P
Cala Saona This small beach, despite its limited size (it is hardly m long) is one of the most beautiful you can visit Its characteristic tranquillity and beauty make this cove a place not to be missed for tourists It is surrounded, of course, by restaurants and bars, where you can eat or cool down with a drink while you enjoy the marvellous views it offers of the nearby island of Ibiza or, without going so far, the coast of Punta Pedrera or the lovely Punta Rasa cliffs, which can easily be accessed on foot as they are hardly minutes from the beach Length: metres Orientation: West Magnificent beach in the tourist area of, where you can find all the services: accommodation, shopping, restaurants, water sports It is separated from the residential area by a pedestrian promenade where hippy souvenir stalls are put up in the evening beach is made up of stretches of sand and stretches of lowlying rocks where you can find the fishermen s huts, where they keep their boats In front of the beach you can make out small islets, offering beautiful views A quiet beach for the whole family to enjoy There is also a ramp and a chair adapted for disabled people to go in the water Length: metres Orientation: East SERVICES P SERVICES P
Beaches Illetes The beaches of Illetes, at the northern tip of the island and the nearest to the island of Espalmador (just 5m away) are the most visited by tourists and therefore the busiest This area can be reached in any vehicle, although it is recommended to walk or cycle there to better enjoy the landscape and to contribute to its environmental protection, because of the continual passage of people In addition, part of this area cannot be accessed with vehicles, only on foot, because of the irregular ground The Illetes area is one of the most complete in terms of leisure facilities: water sports (sailing, sky sailing, etc), restaurants, kiosks, deck chairs, sunshades; basically everything you need to enjoy a whole day on the beach There is also a seagoing boat service linking this area with the port of La Sabina and the island of Espalmador, which makes transport and access to other places of interest on the island much easier Length: 5 metres Orientation: West SERVICES P
Llevant Also at the northern tip of the island, but in the eastern part, as its name indicates It is also a large beach and, because it is in the area nearest to Illetas, it is quite busy However, because of its length it is possible to find quieter, lonelier places although, of course, there are still restaurants and beach bars Its proximity to Illetas makes it possible to walk around all the beaches in the north of the island Length:,5 metres Orientation: East SERVICES P It can be said that beach is one of the biggest on the island, as its sand stretches along a large part of the southern coast, almost from La Mola to Es Cap de Barbaria These two points, which are quite a way from one another, can both be seen from this beach Its large extent and geographical position make this beach one of the least busy and it is therefore one of the most peaceful on the island This does not mean, however, that there are not typical restaurants and bars right beside the beach Length: 5, metres Orientation: South SERVICES P
Charming Both Formentera and the islands surrounding it are known for their beaches and clear water, but if we go to the inland woods we can find the variety of landscapes offered by the island Estany des Peix The Estany des Peix is a small lagoon with a narrow opening to the sea, allowing small boats in to anchor there It has stretches of beach where it is possible to swim It is ideal for water sports with boats of low draught: windsurfing, kayaking, sailing We recommend going around it to enjoy its natural environment La Mola Lighthouse Many visitors consider La Mola lighthouse a magical place, and it is described as such by the famous writer Jules Verne in some of his works La Mola lighthouse, standing on the highest part of the island, has served and still serves as an essential guide for countless sailors sailing its waters and enjoying the majestic view offered by the cliffs where the plateau meets the sea
Corners There are areas and landscapes that must be visited to really discover the beauty of the island; these include, for example, the lighthouses at La Mola and Es Cap de Barberia, and other areas of equally rich landscape Cap de Barbaria lighthouse Es Cap de Barbaria is a heavenly place formed by rocks, bringing together a feeling of enormous loneliness and freedom You need to visit and walk here to realise how majestic it is Finally, if you reach the very end of it, you will see where the lighthouse stands, a place where a unique sunset can be enjoyed as the sea and sky blend in reddish tones on the horizon If you still feel like walking, you can visit the nearby watchtower lighthouse that once protected the island from invaders Punta de Sa Pedrera Visiting the coast, we will find Punta Pedrera, where strange and unusual rock formations make up a desert of stone known as Sa Pedrera which, where it meets the sea, has been christened the natural swimming pools Where the stone needed for building was once extracted, there is now a stretch of deformed rock and quarry, which is very interesting for tourists If you are lucky enough to be able to sail along the coast, you can enjoy views and cliffs cut by magnificent half submerged caves and, at the same time, you will get a complete view of the island of Ibiza
Active Tourism ACTIVE TOURISM Formentera is not only the last paradise in the Mediterranean, where you can enjoy peace and relax, it also has many opportunities for active tourism and offers unbeatable conditions for water sports, especially diving, because of the transparency and warm temperature of the sea In addition, the unusual shape of the island facilitates sailing and windsurfing and kayak every day of the year For fans of walking and cycle touring, the island has properly signed green circuits running through areas of special landscape interest DIVING Information on diving conditions General features The island of Formentera has unbeatable characteristics for diving Ibiza and Formentera (the Pitiusa Islands) have surprisingly transparent and colourful waters Their coasts form one of the few wellpreserved corners of the Mediterranean There is a good reason why the Freus Marine Reserve of Ibiza and Formentera is located here It is the only natural area in the whole Mediterranean Sea included on UNESCO s list of World Heritage Sites Concerning diving, the first thing to highlight is the excellent visibility (up to 5 metres) and the variety of landscapes characterising the area: caves, walls with sea fans, pieces of wrecks, shallow dives with very beautiful landscapes, posidonia prairies considered the best preserved in the Mediterranean, etc Visibility characteristics Visibility in the water varies depending on the time of year, ranging from 5 to 5 metres Water temperature characteristics The climate is very good throughout the year, which makes diving possible throughout the season, with maximum temperatures of degrees in summer, degrees in spring and autumn and 5 degrees in winter Variety of landscapes The main characteristic of diving on Formentera is the

Active Tourism islet of Espalmador Because of this, the wind means that, during the summer, the eastern face of the beach has waves and the western face has constant wind from the land, with little surf and calm sea But, sailors who prefer gusty wind and rougher conditions can find them by sailing just two miles to the north or south of this beach To the north, around the islet of Espalmador and to the south, around the cliffs of Punta Pedrera During the summer, the winds are usually light or average, from 55 knots But they are never less than this and rarely greater During the winter it is different, as the two extremes calms or storms with winds greater than knots can be encountered The latter are more common than calms In summary, it is a paradise for family cruising and for beginners in the summer and for expert sailors in the winter This island offers just as good conditions for practice as for the technical perfection of this sport Its conditions are so wonderful that the best woman sailor in the world of all time (Teresa Zabell) decided to come here to set up her training base This confirms the island as one of the best anywhere in Spain for highlevel sailing, and it would be a shame not to make the most of it for this good purpose SCHOOLS Náutica Pins: tel 97 5 nauticapins interbooknet chárter náutico y tienda Barco Salao: tel 9 7 chárter náutico, taxi náutico y pesca de altura Fast Ferrari: tel 7 9 5 57 chárter náutico, veleros Formentera Rent a Boat: tel 97 9 chárter náutico, veleros, catamarán, semirígidas c/s patrón, lanchas intraborda Isla Azul: tel 97 forislaazul@terraes semirígidas c/s patrón, lanchas intraborda
