GMP+ FRA certification - Responsible Compound Feed Sandra de Bruin Project Coordinator GMP+ International Theme Meeting Purchasing of Responsible Soy, June 27th 2014
Introduction Table of Contents GMP+ FRA certification Responsible compound feed: GMP+ FRA Framework Feed Responsibility Management System Material Accounting System & supply chain models Scopes
Introduction GMP+ certified companies are confronted more and more with questions about sustainable production of feed.
Introduction GMP+ Feed Certification scheme A documents General requirements for participation in the GMP+ FC scheme B documents Normative documents, attachments and country notes Feed Safety Assurance Feed Responsibility Assurance C documents Certification requirements of the GMP+ FC scheme
GMP+ FRA certification The GMP+ Feed Certification scheme contains a lot of tools for assuring both safe and responsible feed, such as: Management system Risk assessment Basic requirements Process conditions GMP+ support products (such as FSP)
GMP+ FRA certification In addition, the certification requirements of the GMP+ FC scheme allow for the assurance of both safe and responsible feed, such as : Strict requirements for certification bodies and auditors. Required harmonization and exams to keep the knowledge about GMP+ requirements up to date. Minimum audit times and standard checklists Supervision by GMP+ International of approved certification bodies.
GMP+ FRA certification A lot of overlap in the assurance of safe and responsible feed and as a result of that, a great benefits to be achieved in combining via GMP+ certification. One-stop-shop multiple certification
GMP+ FRA certification Primary production Collection, storage & transshipment Processing / production of feed ingredients Transport and trade Production of premixes and compound feed Livestock farming & production of animal products Other certification scheme or gatekeeper Scope GMP+ Feed Certification scheme Other certification scheme
GMP+ FRA certification Strategy GMP+ International: Plugging market initiatives into the GMP+ FRA Framework GMP+ offers the basics of system & certification, market initiatives determine what is sustainable (the standard)
GMP+ FRA certification Requirements for market initiatives: Requirements must be verifiable. The scope must be clear. There must be sufficient interest from the market. The market initiative may not damage the image of GMP+ International or the GMP+ Feed Certification scheme. A concrete market party (entity) must back the standard, one with which GMP+ International can make agreements about rights and duties.
Combination: GMP+ FRA certification
Introduction Table of Contents GMP+ FRA certification Responsible compound feed: GMP+ FRA Framework Feed Responsibility Management System Material Accounting System & supply chain models Scopes
Responsible compound feed Objective: In 2015, 100% of the soy purchased for the Dutch market, must be produced responsibly.
Responsible compound feed Scopes: Sustainable dairy cattle feed Tomorrow's Pig (varken van morgen) Tomorrow's Chicken (kip van morgen) Stichting Milieukeur FEFAC responsible soy Focus: responsible soy
GMP+ FRA Framework Feed Responsibility Management System Management system Management Responsibility Person responsible within the organization Documentation & Registration
GMP+ FRA Framework Basic requirements Personnel Identification & Traceability Risk assessment Purchasing requirements Supplier selection Verification of inbound products Services
GMP+ FRA Framework Informing customer & delivery Informing about status of the product (labeling) Delivery Verification and improvement Complaints Internal audit Assessment of the management system and improvements
GMP+ FRA Framework All aforementioned requirements regarding the Feed Responsibility Management System are not new to GMP+ FSA companies. New is the Material Accounting System and the Supply Chain Models used in trade in responsible feed (ingredients).
GMP+ FRA Framework The Material Accounting System contains information about ingoing and outgoing flows of responsible soy (incl. product description, volume and supply chain model) - Input received - Input ready for production / processing - Input in stock - Output in stock (ready for delivery) - Output delivered The material accounting system can be kept up to date in two ways: - Real-time - Over a fixed period (max 12 months)
Supply Chain Models Segregated System This supply chain model is used in:
Mass Balance System Supply Chain Models
Area Mass Balance GMP+ Supply Chain Model
Book & Claim GMP+ Supply Chain Model

Responsible compound feed Responsible Soy = RTRS (or equivalent) Independent benchmark study into equivalence, carried out by ITC, commissioned by Fefac.
Scope: Trade of RTRS responsible soy 2 scopes, currently in GMP+ B101 RTRS Segregation RTRS Mass Balance These scopes will be transferred into the new FRA structure: combination of: GMP+ FRA Framework with basic requirements Appendices with the specific requirements for these scopes
Scope: Sustainable dairy cattle feed Approved supply chain models: - Segregation - Mass Balance - Book & Claim Promotion of growth of book & claim into mass balance: Year Minimum % mass balance 2015 No minimum 2016 20 % 2017 40 % 2018 60 % 2019 80 % 2020 100 % (book & claim no longer approved) This scope will aslo be made available for the supply of single soy products directly to the dairy cattle farmer.
Scopes: Tomorrow's Chicken & Tomorrow's Pig Approved supply chain models: - Segregation - Mass Balance - Area Mass Balance - Book & Claim* *Book & claim is only accepted until 1-1-2016 and provided that the other supply chain models are not available on the market. Purchasing is documented via IKB Kip & IKB Varken and originates from the requirements of GlobalG.A.P.
Scope: Stichting Milieukeur Approved supply chain models: - Segregation - Mass Balance - Area Mass Balance - Book & Claim
Scope: Fefac roadmap to responsible soy Is to be determined following the results of the independent benchmark.
Planning The GMP+ FRA Framework and the scope documents are still in development. Completion in the course of 2014 Certifiable in 2015
