Installation Guide
WELCOME to fireblast, one of the Industry s leading Email Marketing Software Solutions for your business. Whether you are creating a small email campaign, or you are looking to upgrade to a newer solution, fireblast is the solution for you. Technical Support Line: (800) 747-4270 Email: support@sumeffect.com For optimum results, please read the following recommendations: Web Browser Recommendation: While the software is browser based and should run on any browser, we achieved the best results using Internet Explorer or Firefox. ** NOTE: Professional installation is available for $45 US dollars! Before you continue, you will need the following: 1. A Web server with PHP and MySQL to host this software. 2. An FTP program to upload fireblast files. You can download a FREE trial of WS_FTP at www.wsftp.com. 3. A Web browser to run the Install Wizard. 4. Knowledge and experience with FTP, HTML, PHP and MySQL (optional). You will need to know the following information before you continue: 1. The Web site FTP username and password. 2. The location (path) of your website directories on the web server in which to install this software. 3. A MySQL hostname, username, password and database name. 4. The Web address where this software will be installed. OVERVIEW Usage of this program accepts that you have read and agree to the license that comes with this software. Usage of this program also assumes you have installed both PHP and MySQL on your web server and they are both functioning properly. If at any point you need assistance, please contact your network administrator or hosting company for help. Most of these settings are specific to your Web server, so we cannot provide you with this information. PERMISSIONS: The username (ie: apache) that the Web server is running as must have write permissions to the entire directory fireblast is installed in and all subdirectories and files. NOTE: If you are running PLESK, you will need to make sure your open basedir is set to the document root, not httpsdocs or httpdocs. We cannot do this. You must contact your hosting company. Otherwise you will get an open_basedir restriction in effect error message on the install wizard. To read more about this go to http://support.sumeffect.com and do a search for "restriction". Rev 2 2
After you purchase fireblast, you will receive a zip file containing the files to be uploaded to the server. Rev 2 3
To open the zip file, double-click on it. The doc and fireblast folders appear on your desktop. Rev 2 4
You will be uploading the contents of the fireblast folder, so open it to see the files. Create a folder on your desktop and copy the files to the new folder. Rev 2 5
After copying the files to your folder on your desktop, open your FTP program. (For illustrative purposes, we are using WS_FTP. Your screen shots may differ. Enter the following information: Your Profile Name Host Name/Address User ID Password Account (Optional) Comment (Optional) Click OK. The FTP program opens and shows a list of the files on your drive. Rev 2 6
Navigate to the fireblast files and open them. Select the contents of the fireblast folder and upload them to the root Web site directory. Highlight the files and click the right arrow button to upload your files. NOTE: Upload the contents of the fireblast folder only. Do not upload the folder "fireblast". If you do, your URL will be www.mycompany.com/fireblast. Rev 2 7
Now, you must change the permissions of the uploaded files. Select the file and rightclick on it. Click chmod (UNIX) and the permissions screen appears. Rev 2 8
Check all of the boxes for full write permissions and click OK. Continue this process for all of the folders in the remote directory. NOTE: If you don't make the permissions changes you will receive permission errors on step 6 of the install wizard and the install will not be completed. When you are complete, click the Close button. All of your permissions are changed and you are ready to begin the Install Wizard process. Use your Web browser to navigate to the address http://{yourdomain}/install. For example, if your address is http://www.yourdomain.com and you uploaded the fireblast directory directly to the Web root, go to http://www.yourdomain.com/install. This is the first page of the Install Wizard. Rev 2 9
INSTALL WIZARD The Install Wizard allows you to easily install FireBLAST onto your server. If you selected for us to install the software for you, then you can move ahead to Tabs section of the manual. WARNING: If you run the install wizard after the software has been Installed onto your server, the system will empty all data and reset your settings. To run Install Wizard: Open your web browser and enter the URL where the software is being installed http://yourdomainname.com/install/index.php NOTE: If you install this into a directory called newsletter, then your URL would be http://yourdomainname.com/newsletter/install/index.php Once this is done, click the button to start the Installation process. A confirmation dialog box appears. Click Yes to continue the Installation process. Rev 2 10
Enter the domain name and developer s email address and click the Next button. Step 2 of 6 appears. Rev 2 11
Complete the form and click the Next button. Step 3 of 6 appears. Enter the License Key that was provided when you downloaded this software. Click the Next button. Step 4 of 6 appears. Enter the Database Name, the Database Username, and the Database Password. Click the Next button. Step 5 of 6 appears. Rev 2 12
The Install URL will be provided for you. Click the Next button. Step 6 appears. The Installation process is complete. NOTE: You will need the Username and Password to log on. We recommend that you change your password after the initial log in. Click the Go To Main Menu button. The log in screen appears. Rev 2 13
