Stena S-47 47,200 DWT Product/Chemical Tanker CONQUEST CONQUEROR CONCORD CONCEPT CONSUL CONTEST

The unique cargo handling system enables the S-47 to trade in multiple markets, bringing superior earnings potential Having 10 completely independent segregations provides substantially more flexibility for oil traders who supply a multi-dimensional and ever changing retail market. The extra grade flexibility allows traders the ability to make last minute changes that we can still accommodate without blocking out cargo. A standard medium range tanker typically has a maximum of six independent cargo segregations. This can be a limitation to oil traders, who are trying to maximize their revenue potential when delivering to the retail markets. The S-47 creates even greater cargo opportunities because she is fitted with an advanced phenolic epoxy coating in the cargo tanks allowing the safe carriage of chemical cargoes in addition to clean and dirty petroleum products and crude oils. The unique cargo piping configuration and arrangement of the S-47 also provides for faster turnaround times in load and discharge ports, compared with the standard double hull product tanker with deep well pumps. The S-47 vessels are fitted with an engine room more powerful than is normal in this class of ship. The vessels are able to reach a top-speed of 16.6 knots in ballast and 15.6 knots at design draft.

This ETC design allows for quicker discharge times and also significantly reduces the tank preparations required for the next cargoes, and all of that time saved can add substantially to the annual revenue days for the vessel.

The S-47 design inside the cargo tanks is also superior to any standard tank design in that the vessel has an Efficient Tank Cleaning (ETC) notation endorsement from the Classification Society. This means that the interior tank structure is designed so that there is virtually no clingage or cargo residues remaining after discharge. This is accomplished by rounded corner edges for better draining, and fitting of suction draining wells below the cargo pumps in the cargo tanks.

The critical features for a Medium Range (MR) size of Handy product/chemical tanker in worldwide service are the cargo lift in deadweight on restricted drafts, multiple grade segregations, and a large cargo cubic capacity relative to our competitors. These features are especially critical for cargo traders in the Caribbean supply region. The Stena S-47 Class is the most efficient design on these combined critical criteria. They are built by a shipyard that has a long experience with similar design, the Uljanik Brodogradiliste in Croatia. And the result of this increased efficiency is that the vessels are able to be the first choice for oil traders who require flexibility and dependability with their multiple grade cargoes. Oil should always travel first class!
