OUR APPROACH While we have developed a structure and process to maximize the impact of, we work with each coachee to customize the overall experience to their specific goals and needs. Our is rooted in cultivating and leveraging self-awareness, and we have developed an extensive knowledge management library of tools, tips, skill building and assessments that gets incorporated into each engagement. Whatever a coachee s specific goals, we stress the importance of the coachee s personal professional brand as well as looking at their career from a longer-term, big picture perspective. Although the coachee sets the timing and the pace with input and feedback from their coach, sessions are typically once a week or every other week. All sessions are confidential. Sessions are typically by phone. Skype, FaceTime and videoconference are also options. Our preference is to meet each coachee in person at least once, including the initial chemistry check. Travel to meet the coachee is at the firm s request. We understand that client needs can impact an attorney s scheduling. While a coachee may, of course, reschedule or cancel a session, we ask for as much notice as practicable. We do not extend packages as a result of cancellations. On the rare occasion when we find that an attorney is, for some reason, not coachable, we will let you know. ASKING POWERFUL QUESTIONS An essential element of successful is the powerful question. This invites reflection and creates an opportunity for the coachee to consider how a different approach to a situation could positively impact the outcome. Examples of powerful questions include: How is that particular behavior currently working for you? What is it that you think that you should be doing that you re not? What was your intention in that situation? What do you think your impact was? What is likely to change about the situation in the absence of communication/action? OUR EMPHASIS ON ACTION To create and maintain momentum towards their goals, coachees will typically be expected to complete homework as part of their. We are often asked what sorts of assignments and exercises are typical. Examples include: Business Development: Calling a particular contact the attorney has been resisting calling, despite the fact that the contact fits strategically into the attorney s business development plan. Leadership: Writing a script for a difficult feedback conversation the attorney needs to have. Time Management: Experimenting with establishing a set number of hours each day designated as priority project time. Stress Management: Debriefing a recent stressful situation the attorney did not handle well and re-writing the script for what the attorney could sjlshannon.com have done differently. 5
SUSTAINABLE IMPACT The beauty of, especially lawyers who are high achievers, is that it delivers results in real-time and builds sustainability for long-term change with an on-going impact. Coaching is not a directive discipline where the coachee is led somewhere. The focus on adopting new approaches and behaviors, combined with the development of skills, enables coachees to take charge of their own transformation and to continue doing so beyond the end of the engagement. OUR PACKAGES Depending on the seniority and focus of the, we offer packages to create maximum flexibility and maximum effectiveness. In addition to one-on-one, we also provide group, as well as hybrid which incorporates both one-on-one and group elements. Coaching engagements are typically 3, 6 or 12 months, although our partner and senior attorney packages start at 6 months.
