1 Application Checklist Urban Teachers application deadlines for Cohort 2016 are: September 28, November 9, February 1, March 28 and May 2. Your online application, resume, and one short response must be submitted online via Urban Teachers application on or before an application deadline (midnight EDT) to be considered complete. Urban Teachers Website ( Don t forget your login information for your online application: Username Password Online Application Requirements Bachelor s Degree Degree must be conferred by the start of Summer Institute approximately June 19, 2016 (or late June 2017 if you are applying Early Decision). Urban Teachers accepts a minimum overall 3.0 GPA from the degree conferring undergraduate institution only. 3.0 GPA Preferred Undergraduate Major Urban Teachers will accept an undergraduate GPA of for a few outstanding applicants (i.e., STEM major or STEM work experience, five or more years of work experience, bilingual, or extensive work with urban children and youth or urban communities). Urban Teachers will not accept applicants with an undergraduate GPA below a Urban Teachers accepts majors in all academic disciplines

2 Online Application Requirements Prior Teacher License (or Certifications) are Permitted Citizenship Individuals with a current or prior teacher license (or certification), conditional or otherwise, MUST disclose this on the application. Individuals MUST also disclose if they participated in a teacher preparation program leading to licensure, whether or not they ultimately received their license. Regardless of teacher licensure status, all Urban Teachers participants will receive the same program of study and be held to the same accountability standards. Urban Teachers will only accept U.S. Citizens and permanent residents. Foreign citizens may apply to Urban Teachers only if they are currently authorized to work in the United States with a ten-year visa. Foreign University You will be required to upload proof of permanent residency in the online application. Foreign citizens who have university level coursework from a foreign institution must have their transcripts evaluated and translated in English by a recognized agency such as World Education Services or the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) before being considered. You must upload the rating in the online application to be considered complete. For applicants whose native language is not English (permanent residents and foreign citizens), an official copy of your score report from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is required. Native Language In order to ensure an applicant s ability to participate successfully in the Urban Teachers curriculum, minimum score requirements must be met for admission. The required minimum test score for the TOEFL test are as follows: 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet based). The required minimum test score for the IELTS is 6.5. (If you received your undergraduate degree from a U.S. college or university where the coursework was taught in English, this condition may be waived.) Documentation must be uploaded in the online application to be considered complete. Application Checklist 2

3 Online Application Requirements Resume Upload a Word document or a PDF of your most current education resume. Please title your pdf attachment LastName_FirstInitial Resume (Ex: John Doe - Doe_J Resume.pdf). Maximum file size: 10 MB. Allowed extensions: doc, docx, pdf. Please include any/all experiences in leadership and work with children/youth including the month(s)/year(s)/approximate hours of involvement in each. Write a response to the following question (maximum of 650 words/minimum of 250 words). Short Response Urban Teachers prepares you to be a highly effective and successful career teacher through a year-long residency, a two year practicebased master s, three years of one-on-one coaching, and four years of support and accountability. Why do you want to join Urban Teachers to start your career in urban education? (Please include both previous experiences and future plans in your response.) During the application process, you will be required to complete the following before starting Summer Institute in mid-june, Please follow the given deadlines below. Final Interview Day Requirements Unofficial Transcripts Recommendations If you are invited to a Final Interview Day, applicants must submit an unofficial copy of their undergraduate transcript to Urban Teachers (from the degree conferring undergraduate institution). If you are invited to a Final Interview Day, applicants will need two academic or professional recommendations. Only the electronic recommender form provided will be accepted. These recommendation forms take 5-10 minutes to complete. After Selection Requirements Complete a FAFSA Form (NOT REQUIRED) Transcripts (Undergraduate) Urban Teachers recommends all applicants complete a FAFSA Form for financial aid to cover tuition costs for the program. Those accepted into Urban Teachers will be required to submit three final official transcripts that are stamped with degree Application Checklist 3

We encourage you to send in your scores or take these pre-professional tests within 30 days of accepting an offer for a particular city. Urban Teachers must have passing scores no later than May 21, 2016 or your offer may be rescinded requiring you to reapply the following year after passing the test. If you are planning to take the Praxis Core (for Baltimore or DC), please send scores to Urban Teachers using Institution Code If you wish to take all three computer-delivered Core exams (5712, 5722, 5732) at the same time, select Core Academic Skills for Educators Combined Test (5751) when registering. Scores will be reported by individual test (5712, 5722, 5732). Apply to take the tests here: State Exams Baltimore, MD Acceptance into Urban Teachers is contingent upon passing Praxis Core by May 21, The Praxis 1, GRE, ACT or SAT tests may be used in lieu of the Praxis Core. Click here to see the passing scores required: on/certification_branch/testing_information/praxis1.html Washington, DC* Acceptance into Urban Teachers is contingent upon passing the Praxis Core by May 21, Praxis 1, GRE, ACT or SAT and writing test (PPST, CBT or GRE) may be used in lieu of the Praxis Core until August 31, 2016 ONLY. The following passing scores must be met: achments/educator Testing Flyer_ _0.pdf Dallas, TX - TExES Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT) Applicants accepted to the Dallas, TX cohort are required to take the Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT). Applicants are strongly encouraged to take these tests within 30 days of accepting an offer from Urban Teachers. Urban Teachers applicants must take and receive passing scores NO LATER THAN May 21, Texas requires that test takers wait 45 days before re-taking the test Application Checklist 4

5 After Selection Requirements Criminal Background Check again. Texas also limits the number of times you can take this test to five attempts. You will need to send your score reports to Urban Teachers after you receive your score as they are only sent to the test taker. If you already have been a part of a teacher preparation program in Texas, please contact Kerry Swarr at Kerry.Swarr@urbanteachers.org for additional instructions before taking this test. Apply to take the tests here: Urban Teachers reserves the right to deny admission to Urban Teachers or dismiss any Urban Teachers resident who has been involved in a criminal proceeding other than a minor traffic violation, regardless of the outcome. This includes criminal matters that were handled by a juvenile court and final determinations that are sealed or otherwise expunged from the public record. Application Checklist 5

Applicants that complete their application by a particular application deadline will have their application reviewed for eligibility. If the applicant passes the application review, the applicant will be invited to participate in a 60-minute digital performance task. If the applicant passes the digital performance task, you will be invited to participate in a final interview in Washington, DC, Baltimore, Dallas, or other cities around the country. Urban Teachers also has many virtual final interview options for those currently overseas or not close to one of our in-person interviews. There is no preference given for in-person interviews.
