Purpose Access Control & Burglar Alarm Integration with KT-300 The purpose of this document is to provide Installers and System Administrators instructions on integrating access control to their burglar alarm system. Adding an access control panel to an existing burglar alarm allows for the arming and disarming of a burglar alarm panel upon a valid access to a card reader. It allows the System Administrator to monitor who has armed and disarmed the system. Software and Hardware Requirements EntraPass Special or Corporate Edition system with a KT-300 door controller Proximity reader with valid access cards for arming/disarming via the KT-300 door controller Arming request input button or * key on reader/keypad combination (P555KP, P225KP, or P325KP) A door contact monitored by the KT-300 door controller (not the burglar alarm) Alarm Panel Requirements Zone X configured as Momentary Key Switch Arming Zone Y configured as a 24-hour instant zone PGM1 configured to follow the Ready State of the alarm panel PGM2 configured to follow the Armed State of the alarm panel Telephone: 1 (450) 444 2030 Toll Free: 1 888 222-1560 Fax: 1 (450) 444 2029 Internet: www.kantech.com page 1 / 6

Summary of Concepts In this application, the KT-300 door controller will arm and disarm the burglar alarm panel following a valid access and arming request (users will swipe their cards, then press the Arming Request Input Button located near the entry door). To arm the burglar alarm, the door controller s Relay 1 will only activate if a valid access card has been swiped, the Arming Request Input or Keypad Button is pressed, and none of the door controller s inputs specified in the door s external alarm options Supervised Inputs page are in alarm. In this case, Relay 1 will toggle the momentary key switch arming input on the burglar alarm for 2 seconds. When the burglar alarm is armed, the door controller s reader LED will constantly flash to indicate that the system is armed. To disarm the Burglar Alarm, swipe a valid card and enter the premises. You must open the door for the alarm panel to be disarmed. Recommendations It is recommended to use a P225KP or P325KP or a P555KP reader/keypad combination in order to provide extra security when the arming/disarming reader is located outside the premises. This strengthens security when a valid card and PIN code are required to arm and disarm. Also, the use of a reader/keypad combination removes the need of having to install a separate arming request button near the reader. When connecting the KT-300 relay outputs to an external burglar alarm panel, please note that the control outputs are open collector to ground and require knowledge of electronics if the burglar alarm is configured for end-of-line resistor supervision. Please test for full functionality before leaving the customer s premises. Telephone: 1 (450) 444 2030 Toll Free: 1 888 222-1560 Fax: 1 (450) 444 2029 Internet: www.kantech.com page 2 / 6

Configuring EntraPass for Arming the Burglar Alarm 1. Start the EntraPass Corporate Edition or Special Edition workstation application. 2. Under the Devices tab, click Door to open the Door dialog. 3. In the scroll lists, select the Gateway, the Site, the Controller and the Door you want to configure. 4. Move to the Options and alarm system tab. Click on External alarm system options. This should open the Alarm system options dialog. 5. Select Input 5 for the Arming request input. Please note that a button from an integrated keypad can be used and programmed under the Keypad button field. 6. Select during which schedule the Arming request will be enabled. 7. Select the appropriate Arming access level. 8. Select Input 7 to which the Armed Status (PGM2) is connected to, in the External alarm system panel status field. Telephone: 1 (450) 444 2030 Toll Free: 1 888 222-1560 Fax: 1 (450) 444 2029 Internet: www.kantech.com page 3 / 6

9. Move to the Input tab. 10. Check the appropriate boxes for the controller s inputs. These are the inputs which will be supervised when the system is armed. Door contacts must be checked as well. 11. Move to the Postpone arming tab. 12. Select an Input to postpone arming or a Keypad button to use as the input to postpone arming. Postpone arming should be used when the system is counting down the exit delay and a user needs to reenter the premises without causing an alarm. Postpone arming can also be used if the burglar alarm panel has an auto-arm schedule, and the user wants to override it from the KT-300 door controller. 13. Select the Postpone or disarm access level to specify disarming privileges. Telephone: 1 (450) 444 2030 Toll Free: 1 888 222-1560 Fax: 1 (450) 444 2029 Internet: www.kantech.com page 4 / 6

14. Move to the Relay tab. 15. Select the Alarm relay that will be activated when a door is forced open or when an input, which was previously checked as Supervised in the Input tab, goes into alarm. The burglar alarm must be armed for this to occur. 16. Select the Arming alarm panel Exit delay, which is the output activated when an arming request is made from the controller. 17. Select the Disarming alarm panel Entry delay, which is the output activated when a disarming request is made from the controller. It is usually the same selection as for the Arming alarm panel Exit delay on step 16. 18. Click OK to close the Alarm system options dialog. 19. Click on the floppy icon to save. 20. Close the Door dialog. 21. Under the Desktops tab, click Desktop #1 to open the Messages list dialog. See below an example which lists the events for a request to arm. Telephone: 1 (450) 444 2030 Toll Free: 1 888 222-1560 Fax: 1 (450) 444 2029 Internet: www.kantech.com page 5 / 6

Setting Up the Arming/Disarming Reader/Buzzer for an Arming Request Denied Indication (Optional) 1. Under the Devices tab, click Output to open the Output dialog. 2. In the scroll lists, select the Gateway, the Site, the Controller and the Output you want to configure. 3. Move to the Definition tab. 4. Select Steady timed for the Arming request denied option. 5. Click on the floppy icon to save. 6. Close the Output dialog. Telephone: 1 (450) 444 2030 Toll Free: 1 888 222-1560 Fax: 1 (450) 444 2029 Internet: www.kantech.com page 6 / 6
