Imagine high school where following your curiosity is encouraged. Where school is relevant, academics are rigorous and students are fully engaged. Picture a place where students gain vital 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, as they immerse themselves in hands-on workplace learning. THAT S PRECISELY WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH LINKED LEARNING in California. And the results have been impressive. In the districts that have Linked Learning, graduation rates have improved. Teachers, administrators, parents, and businesses are working together. Doors to college and career are being flung wide open. It s no wonder that school districts across the state are joining the Linked Learning movement. TEACHERS POLICYMAKERS EMPLOYERS PARENTS OTHER EDUCATORS STUDENTS

LINKED LEARNING IGNITES STUDENTS PASSIONS BY CREATING meaningful experiences in areas that interest them pathways such as engineering, health care, performing arts, law, and more. When students are engaged and loving what they re learning, they work harder and dream bigger. An Invitation For Linked Learning to be successful we need businesses and organizations to get involved. Whether your company can host a tour, provide mentorship to students in person or online, or give a classroom talk on your field, Linked Learning needs your expertise. GIVE WORKPLACE TOURS Connect with your local school and open the doors to your workplace. Let students see firsthand what work looks like in the real world. SHAPE WORK-BASED LESSON PLANS Partner with teachers on curriculum development to include career-based learning topics. Help students make the connection between the work world and their academics. OFFER JOB SHADOWS Have students trail staff to experience the day-to-day responsibilities required for a career in your field. They ll gain invaluable insight on communication and leadership skills. PROVIDE INTERNSHIPS AND EXTERNSHIPS Put students to work through internships to help them gain the skills necessary for workplace success in the 21st century. Provide teachers with externships, which allow them to incorporate real-world experiences into their classrooms. LEAD A SKILLS WORKSHOP Visit classrooms to teach students firsthand about vital topics from interviewing and resume creation, to industry-specific career skills. BECOME A MENTOR OR ADVISOR You ve spent years developing your professional and business skills. Now, it s time to share them with the next generation of workers, entrepreneurs, and citizens.
