The IB Diploma Programme at Reagan College Preparatory High School JUNIOR Parent/Guardian Meeting

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) The DP includes the majority of our courses at the junior and senior levels Courses are offered at the HL (Higher Level) or Standard Level (SL) of the IB curriculum

Graduation Expectations for All Reagan Students Every student is strongly encouraged to take at least one IB test at the end of his/her senior year at either the HL or SL IB requires that HL (Higher Level) courses have 240 hours of instruction prior to testing IB requires that all SL (Standard Level) courses have a minimum of 150 hours of instruction prior testing.

That means: Almost all courses must be taken both Junior and Senior Years. There are only two SL courses that can be taken as a one year option: Psychology SL and/or Mathematics Calculus SL

SL Courses Some IB classes are only offered at the Standard Level: Literature and Performance, Environmental Sciences and Societies, Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Math Studies At Reagan, these courses are still taught over a two-year period, with some of the IB requirements completed during the Junior year and the rest completed in Senior Year.

HL Courses Reagan High School offers the following classes at the HL Level: Literature, French, Spanish, History of the Americas, Psychology, Biology, Mathematics, Film, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts

There are 3 pathways to choose from in the IB Diploma Program: IB Full Diploma IB Career-related Program (IBCP) Course/Certificate

Requirements for the Full IB Diploma Testing in 3 classes at the HL level (can be 4 maximum) Testing in 3 classes at the SL level (can be 2 minimum) Completion of the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) class Completion of 150 CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) hours Successful completion of 4000 word Extended Essay

Requirements for the IB Career-related Program (IBCP) Testing in 2 classes at the HL or SL level Completion of the Personal & Professional Skills (PPS) Course Completion of 50 Community and Service Hours Completion of the Language Portfolio Completion of the Reflective Project Two tracks: Web Development OR Health Sciences

Requirements for a Course/Certificate Students that do not choose to do the IB Full Diploma or the IBCP program are considered IB Course/ Certificate Students These students still take all IB courses These students can take IB tests in 1 or more subject areas of their choosing These students receive an MPS Reagan High School diploma if they have met the district graduation requirements

IB Full Diploma, IBCP, or Course/Certificate? Because every student will want to take at least one IB test in May of their senior year junior year course selection is extremely important. We encourage all students to accept the challenge of the IB Full Diploma or IBCP. Students and their families should discuss these decisions together.

Fee Structure/Costs of Testing Registration for testing this year is $165.00 for ALL students The cost of each individual IB test is $58.00 for non-f/rl students The costs of the IB Test Fees are subsidized by the State of Wisconsin and the MPS District (MPS pays 50%; IB charges $116 per test)

Sample Cost Structures (These fees increase slightly each year) FULL IB DIPLOMA: Registration Fee: $165.00 COURSE/CERTIFICATE: Registration Fee: $165.00 6 IB Tests $348.00 ($58.00 per test, non-f/rl): 1 Test (for non-f/rl): $58.00 Total amount: $513.00 Total amount: $ 223.00

If your JUNIOR is taking the Psychology SL or the Mathematics Calculus SL exam THIS YEAR: October 8 th is the last day to register for these IB Exams. There are no exceptions to this. * IB does not refund any IB fees*

What s Best for Your Child? When considering which courses to enroll in, consideration should be given to receiving the greatest benefits of the IB programme: The Study Skills needed for college and a career The Time Management and Organization Skills necessary for all aspects of life The potential to earn College Credits The Pride and the Satisfaction of accomplishing difficult challenges!

Choose Carefully and Wisely CHALLENGE your child to do the most, not the least that they are able to do. Allow them to feel the discomfort that comes from doing difficult work as well as the PRIDE they gain once that work is ACCOMPLISHED. Decide together what s in the BEST INTEREST of your child s future.
