Narrative Report In 2009 I received my medical degree (M.D.) from Charité University Berlin, Germany. In the same year I organized and supervised a dermatologic seminar for students, the results of which I published (JDDG, 2009). During the Surgery Residency Program at Sanssouci Hospital, Potsdam, Germany from february 2010 to august 2010 I first came into contact with research related to effects of mesenchymal stem cells from liposuction for orthopedic, anti-inflammatory usage. In my Surgery Residency Program at University Hospital Leipzig, Germany, my focus lied on immunosuppression in liver transplanted patients, especially towards conversion from CNI based to mtor-based immunosuppression regimen. Further research was directed towards quality of life and follow-up care as well as hernia and wound healing in transplanted patients. In this field I am supervising 3 medical students in planning and preparation of their doctoral thesis. Due to close collaboration with the interdisciplinarily operating wound care team, pathophysiological processes in wound healing became more and more interesting to me, guiding my interest and curiosity to the field wound healing and repair. After having finished my basic surgical education (12/2012), the common trunk of surgery, I want to first focus on research in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Translational subjects in this field that are intriguing to me are burns, scarring and wound healing as well as the potentials of tissue engineering, epigenetics and stem cells. After a period of 2-3 years I would like to continue and finish my surgical formation in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. 5
