DIOCESAN CERTIFICATE OF BIBLICAL STUDIES 2015... but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14

COME and DISCOVER To want to know the Lord and to draw near to Him is to desire to read and understand His Word. The DCBS Team wants to help this process. In 2015, we have two venues; St Andrew s Cathedral and St James Church. We have also streamlined some of the details of the modules. We want to invite you to Come and Discover the Bible for yourself. To go beyond daily devotionals and inspirational quotes and discover God who has revealed Himself to His people in the Bible. Why wait? Just take the plunge with us! The DCBS Team

WHAT IS THE DCBS? The Diocesan Certificate of Biblical Studies (DCBS) is a course built on a four-year curriculum structured through 5 modules in one year. They are Overview Modules, Introduction Modules of the Old and New Testaments and Book Study Modules. The intention is that the whole Bible will be covered in key themes, classifications and books. The DCBS Team hopes to provide a standardised, Bible-based foundation for faith, life and ministry. Through this course, we hope all participants will grow to love the Word of God and be encouraged to go deeper into the study of His Word. THE MODULES Overviews These modules provide the macro perspectives: The Message of the Bible The Interpretation of the Bible The Origin and Canon of the Bible The Themes of the Bible Each module will be taught over 2 sessions and there are no assessments. Introduction Modules Old and New Testaments Introductory modules cover all the major classifications or groups of writings of the Bible: Pentateuch, The Former Prophets, The Latter Prophets, and the Writings Gospels, The Pauline Epistles, The Non-Pauline Epistles, and the Acts of the Apostles. Taught over 5 sessions, assessments come in the form of formal written assignments based on what was discussed in class. Book Study Modules Old and New Testaments A book is selected from the major groups and we will examine the text to look into the meanings, the movements, the moments and the message. We will look at the occasion, purpose, structure, context and correlation of the text to the whole Bible. Taught over 5 sessions, the assessments are similar to those for the Introductory Modules in format.

DCBS FAQ 1) Must I do all the modules? The whole 4 year course is for you to learn, to enjoy and to grow deeper into the Word. If you want to obtain the Certificate of Biblical Studies, you will have to attend all the modules BUT at your own pace. We intend to keep the course running at different centres and you can always take the modules when you can. You can also opt to select modules that you have an interest in and just attend those. 2) Are there assignments? Not for the Overview module. The other modules have assignments for those who want to obtain the Certificate of Biblical Studies. If that is not your goal to get that Certificate, you can choose not to do the assignments. 3) Must I attend all the sessions for a module? We know there are many demands on our time and our best advice is that if you find you are going to miss 3 or more sessions, it is best to wait till the module is repeated. Most of the sessions are progressive and you may not be able to benefit as much. 4) Who are the teachers? Many of them are Anglican clergy and lay leaders but all are men and women who are passionate about the Word of the Lord and teaching about it. 5) How much are the modules? The Overviews are $10 and the Intros and Book Studies are $20. Prices are kept deliberately low to ensure as many who want to can attend the classes. 6) Who should attend? All Christians who are keen on growing deeper in their study of the Word of God and for those who are wanting to discover how God reveals Himself through His Word. 7) How to register? Online at www.anglican.org.sg or fill up the form in the brochure and send it to the Diocese at the address below: Diocese of Singapore St Andrew s Village 1 Francis Thomas Drive, 01-01 Singapore 359340 Fees are to be paid by cheque made out to Diocese of Singapore to be collected at the first session.
