UZBEKISTAN 1. Territory - 447 400 square km, nearly size of Sweden 2. 30 million people with growing young population: 30% are under the age of 15 3. Fast developing industrial sector of economy,which has been growing by over 8 % per annum since the mid- 2000s 4. Natural resources include gold, natural gas, oil, coal, silver and copper 5. HIGHER EDUCATION: LATEST DEVELOPMENTS to reconsider education areas and specialties for training of highly qualified personnel: quotas for engineering fields for Bachelors programme will be increased from 23% to 36%; to construct/reconstruct/equip training laboratories, sport facilities and student dormitories; to create modern scientific-research laboratories for further improvement of university research activities, integration of the educational process with research activities of teachers and students.

NOTABLE CHALLENGE Use of university bank account in hard currency is under development.
