GVCS Recommended K-8 Math Programs August 2015 The following math curriculum recommendations have been carefully chosen by the GVCS Common Core Committee. They are suited for a variety of teaching and learning styles. The materials found on this list are based on the Common Core State Standards. If used in accordance with the Teachers Edition, these programs should help students succeed in areas that have previously created difficulties. Students will have the greatest opportunity for success when they receive daily instruction, practice opportunities, and immediate feedback on a regular basis. The curriculum suggestions contain important elements, such as accurate mathematics, sound pedagogy, student friendly and systematic presentations, relevant real-life applications and powerful strategies for problem solving and communication. These programs should further help students develop computational, procedural, and problem solving skills, which will provide them with a solid foundation for each level of mathematics and future levels as well. Most of the math programs also accommodate the various levels of reading and math achievement for our students. The structure of the text/program should further help the student to succeed in math. In today s world, strong math and reading skills are absolutely essential to be successful.
